I have always had an active lifestyle. At age 42, I developed pain in the lumbar & sacrum regions…read more The pain worsened over the next year to where my lifestyle changed. I could no longer exercise or perform household tasks. I went to an ortho surgeon, who prescribed 18 PT sessions to strengthen my back/abdomen. The PT released me from therapy because I did not have a lack of strength in my back/abdomen and that my pain must come from elsewhere. So, I went to see a chiropractor and after adjustments, he told me a story. His wife had suffered from chronic back pain. As a doctor himself, he had done research and came across a pain management doctor in the area. He sent his wife to that doctor and after several treatments, she was pain free and had remained pain free to that date. That is how I came to meet Dr. Munir. I made an appointment at Southwest Ohio Pain Institute (SWOPI) and by this time, I was waking up around 3:00 AM in such pain that I could not fall back asleep. I had sleep deprivation and passed out during my first appointment. His staff was excellent and I felt like I was in the right place. This doctor was going to help me. Dr. Munir completed a physical exam and asked questions to understand what triggers the onset of my pain. After a series of evaluations, he informed me that he did not believe it was an issue with my spine, but rather an issue with muscle spasms pulling at my spine, resulting in both muscle & structural pain. Dr. Munir outlined a program, which included steroid shots, a low dose muscle relaxer and a series of stretches to be performed multiple times a day that would target underlying muscles not often reached through traditional stretching. After a few days of following his program, I experienced my first good night of sleep in close to a year. After about a month, I was experiencing about 50% relief, but I wanted to shoot for the stars and get back to my active lifestyle. Dr. Munir suggested adding red light therapy to my program. His studies had shown that when used in conjunction with steroid injections, the red light therapy (performed twice a week for 8 weeks) would add additional pain relief. And he was right, it did. Not 100%, but by that point my pain relief was about 85%. It was well worth the time and the investment. Again, not one to give up or settle for anything less than 100%, I tasked him with finding that additional 15% of pain relief that would allow me to sleep each and every night, perform household tasks and get back to exercising. Dr. Munir suggested radio frequency ablation (RFA) and thus we started on the evaluation process to determine where most of the pain stemmed from. We decided to treat my left side first - it was a rather simple 20 minute procedure, local anesthesia, performed in the office. I walked out and soon realized that my pain was gone. It was 100% gone on my left side with about a 95% improvement on my right side as well! I could immediately tell the difference in muscle tightness from my left side to my right side. I came back in a month to see Dr. Munir for treatment on my right side. By then my life had changed dramatically. I had been going to the gym, I had started running again and lifting weights. I was sleeping through the night - every night - and feeling rested in the morning. My physical state had improved and so had my emotional state. I was ecstatic with the results! I couldn't believe that I'd spent a year seeing different doctors (by the way, I also saw a neurologist, a rheumatologist and got a second opinion with another orthopedic surgeon) and Dr. Munir was only 5-minutes from my house. It has been several months now and I am 100% pain free. I am also free to pursue the things in life that bring me joy. Thank you, Dr. Munir, for taking the time to ask me thorough questions and for spending the time to properly evaluate my physical issues and for developing a treatment program that was unique to me. Thank you for sticking with me and for not brushing me off because there wasn't a glaringly obvious reason for the pain.

I was charged $600 at the time of my initial visit and was told that a future (second) visit was included... $300 for the first and $300 for the next visit. At the time I thought that practice was odd but I didn't complain, expecting to return at a later date. After several cancellations due to personal conflicts and after researching alternative practices and processes, I decided to go in a different (and what I believe is a better direction) to address my health concerns. When I called to request a credit, I was put on hold, the call dropped, I called back and was transferred to another employee only to find out that there was a different understanding of the credit to be provided. After about an hour, I received a callback from Shane the Business Manager about my request. He indicated that I would only be receiving a $200 credit, not $300 as I expected. After much discussion, he indicated that the $200 credit was final and he would issue a check. I told him I did not agree with this decision and explained that I would be providing a review/ complaint about this business practice. I recommended that the staff should explain this business practice with patients before receiving care so this practice it is clearly understood.

He stripped my fascia and gave me targeted trigger point massage, and I was stunned to be able to hop off of the table with very little lingering pain. He taught me physical techniques to continue reducing pain on my own, as well as healing my inflammation with better diet. I've found both Dr. Blatman and the team of assistants receptive to thoughtfully answering questions and giving guidance. My experience has been a pain healing solution, and I solidly recommend this clinic.

I may be biased since I came from the most junky gym, give me a working piece of equipment and I'm sold, but seriously this place rocks and my body has the wonderful pains and soreness to testify. I will be straightforward about what they offer and the perks that have me singing their praises. 1. From the moment you walk in, super friendly, know you by your name and remember if you take a locker or don't take a locker type of folks 2. Full locker room. Complete with lockers, showers, sauna, steam room, changing rooms, blow dryers, shampoo, soap, vanities, and they provide TOWELS for you. No longer do you have to be that person that forgets their towel and has to flash everyone and dry off with paper towels. Shower towels and work out towels! I might have been sold just from the towels!! 3. Two pools. One warm water pool and one lap pool. 4. Co-ed Jacuzzi. Big and spacious. 5. Classes GALORE!! They offer on a weekly basis: 22 classes in the lap pool 34 classes in the Therapy Pool (mostly geared toward seniors) 50 Group classes varying from spinning, yoga, pilates, dancercise, bootcamp, ballet and body, power sculpt, zumba, etc... The list goes on. Plus they have them starting as early as 6am all the way to 7pm. So whatever schedule, you can find a class. 6. Trained Instructors that actually know what they are doing and care! 7. Trained Certified Personal Trainers that watch what you are doing, motivate you, work with you, and genuinely care about your progress. No trainers texting while you work out here!! 8. A running/walking track 9. Brand new equipment in their entire upstairs weights and cardio area! Tons of equipment and TV's on each cardio equipment to watch what you want. 10. SO NOT A MEAT MARKET!! No leering dudes or creepy men telling you how to perform your workout! 11. Since it is attached to the hospital, they have a cafe that serves everything from soup to sushi and they have the calories list next to food items. Great place to stop and get a bite to eat, coffee, or drink before or after your workout. 12. Day care with very flexible hours and friendly staff with plenty of toys and entertainment for kids. 13. SO CLEAN and you see them constantly cleaning all week long. 14. Onsite they also have a place to get a massage, facial, pilates reformer classes, and other spa treatments. This does cost extra and not included in membership. I'm sure I will learn more awesome things about Mercy Healthplex as I continue to train there, but I'm sold already!! One side note: This particular one on the west side does NOT have a racquetball court or a basketball court. That is the only bummer for me, since I love racquetball, but I figure I will stay busy with all their classes!

He's helped me strengthen my knees to the point where I don't cringe away from everyday activities. The one time Travis couldn't help me with an injury with treatment, he still helped me. He referred me to a talented D.O. to see what was going on. It turns out I have a scarred ligament inside of my elbow which was bothering me which is not something that can be made better with exercise or massage alone.

I was hurting so bad I thought there was no chance of his being right. I stuck with the physical therapy exercises he gave me to do and while it seemed that I wasn't getting better I stayed with them. After the first week, I felt slightly better. Again I stayed with his program. By my third visit I was greatly improved! Three visits, one less than his original projection, and I was back to normal activities. I'm continuing with the exercises just to strengthen the muscles in the area as recommended. I give Dr. Culver my highest recommendation.
