As someone who often visits a handful of shops around Vancouver, I can confidently say that IDC is - without a doubt - one of the best run shops in town thanks to Royse's decades of experience in the business. Their shop is extremely well-kept, clean, inviting, and always well-stocked full of both common recreational gear as well as an awesome selection of advanced/tech gear. It's been just over a decade since I was certified through IDC and to this day, they've been my primary go-to shop for new gear (because you can just never stop buying dive gear), and they'll continue to be my primary go-to recommendation for years to come for anyone looking to get their Open Water certification and beyond. If you're considering giving scuba diving a shot (even if its for an upcoming trip to warmer waters), seriously, give IDC a call and you'll be glad you went through a professional local shop that does a thorough job in tougher cold water conditions to get you prepared for anything! read more

Hard to find Tribolube-71. IDC had it in stock and shipped within 2 hours. Can't do better than that. Thanks

Last April I went to Belize, and had an amazing trip. After spending a few days trekking through the jungle I was pretty happy to get to San Pedro and relax on the beach, beer in hand.It was amazing. Also amazing was snorkeling with Sharks and Manta Rays. Also amazing was diving. Oh, wait, no it wasn't because I wasn't certified to SCUBA. Mistake. Long story short, as soon as I got home I booked myself into the first Open Water Certification course I could find, and luckily for me it was at IDC. The instructors are pretty amazing - they take the time to make sure that you are skilled and comfortable. The class size is pretty awesome - I had 6 people in my class and whenever we were in the water we had at least 2 instructors with us. And, of course, actually getting to dive was pretty amazing. Also, everyone who works at the shop is super knowledgeable and always ready to answer questions, no matter how many you ask. One bit of advice - if you want to buy gear, make sure to ask for the website price! Overall I felt like the course was really good value - 4 pool dives + 4 ocean dives in the Open Water certification left me ready to take the diving world by storm. Or, at least to rent some equipment and dive at Porteau Cove. read more

IDC is like that responsible, caring man that you want to marry (not the sexy speedster who takes you for a ride, takes risks only for their benefit, and ultimately breaks your heart!). No, it has a huge emphasis on safety and an impeccable safety record. All its staff are really knowledgable and level headed. My instructor Liz was terrific: she is genuinely passionate about sharing diving with people and making the world a better place, not to mention she's a wealth of cool stories and ideas. If you want to know about the cutting edge of diving, talk to Liz. After my experience doing my open water dives with them, I fully trust IDC to put safety and customer care before profit. All in all, this is a good solid dive shop with staff from all over the world that has been in the neighbourhood for decades. I would steer people towards it in a heartbeat. read more

Thank you for the very good service during the purchase of my diving equipment I will surely strongly recommend you thank you very much.

I chose this dive shop because it had an affordable short duration program. I anticipated a class with at least 4 other students. Instead, it was myself and another student who hit on me. I was told that I was benefiting getting private lessons at group prices. Every class I showed up and was given a mask that didn't fit. I was encouraged to buy one through their shop. I was asked if I worried about my bikini coming off while I went through the exercises. On open water certification day, my equipment malfunctioned and there was no back up. My instructor left his bruised hand print in my upper arm. I told him I had no faith in the testing dive. Then the instructor asked if I would sell him my car. I kid you not. read more

Went to this shop to have the neoprene neck seal on my SeaTux drysuit tightened. Should be an easy job, just trim out a wedge in the seal to make it a bit smaller and glue the edge together. The measured my neck and sent the suit to Oceaner, who are the local drysuit repair contractors. Got it back fast, but it was too small! IDC was really nice and covered the cost of having them put in a new seal, even though it was Oceaner's fault and they should have covered it. Got the suit back, Oceaner took a super long time, and now the seal was too big! Third time around they were able to get it the right size, IDC was really helpful and apologetic for Oceaner's bad service. Even though it took forever to get a what should have been a small job done, I am really happy IDC were so supportive and helpful. Recommend them for great service! read more

Fantastic dive shop with great instructors and a strong focus on DIR (Doing It Right) diving. I haven't bought any equipment from IDC but I received my PADI Rescue Diver certification here and did my pool and ocean dives with several other classes so had a chance to see how they operate at other levels of certification as well. It is a shame that someone gave IDC a 1 star review based merely on their return policy. These guys do both PADI and GUE and you''d be hard pressed to find higher quality dive instruction in the Vancouver area. read more

This has been a diving centre for many years and the neighbourhood has grown up around it. They offer all the courses you would need to make you a better diver and more. The one downside is parking it's never been good in the area and on my last visit is has become worse. So if you want instruction from a great group of instructors drop by, if you need a quick tank fill not so much. read more

Great Service! I bought a Scubapro M2 Dive computer. The staff called me to let me know there was a problem with the Heart Rate Monitor belt and that they had replaced it and would send it after. The owner also called to clarify the type of band I wished to purchase as an extra since it was not in their current inventory. Product arrived promptly and was as advertised. Great communication and excellent price. As a note, if you are ordering from out of province, there is no PST. That saved me about $100. read more

Buyers beware. This store does not give any refunds but if you return items within two weeks of purchase you MAY get n in house refund. The no refund sign is hidden behind the cash desk back wall and the sales persons do not tell you this. There is a small note at the very bottom of your receipt stating no refunds so people be careful what you buy here. I got stuck with a floatation device that I did not want and tried to return the item. Learned the hard way about the no refund and the owner is a bit strange and refused to honor the in house refund because he got pissed off with my complaint. Have had to go to the Better Business Bureau to try to get satisfaction. read more

I had a sour experience with IDC as I noted before, but consider this an addendum. IDC called me (not the other way around) after seeing what I wrote here previously to smooth things over. This demonstrates two things: a) that they actually care what reviews about them say and b) that they care enough to try to change the minds of unsatisfied customers. Classy. Anyways, Royse talked to me and explained the cost of my reg servicing piece by piece and admitted that the work estimate was low. Apparently the gear servicing was done in 2.5 weeks, but i just wasn't contacted. He said he would talk to his staff about getting more accurate estimates, contacting customers if the servicing cost is going to exceed the estimate, and promptly calling when the gear service is done. Then he offered me a credit without me asking for one. As for trying to sell me on the BC upgrade after the transaction, turns out he was just happy to see another halcyon diver and was really just letting me know about the updated gear; a misunderstanding on my part. Considering all this, I've changed my mind and upgraded the rating. read more
