Customer service update. We are still loving our Hunter Douglas Duette PowerView blinds. We…read morerecently had our 25 year old windows replaced and my handyman husband was successfully able to take all the blinds down, replace the batteries, and put them all back up again without any problems. Or so we thought. We had an issue with the kitchen blind not lowering all the way. I followed the instructions on my App, watched a Hunter Douglas video and a YouTube video but couldn't solve the problem. We called the Portland Window Coverings store and the person who answered the phone was very helpful and tried to walk us through all the steps we'd already taken. The blind still wouldn't cooperate. She said she'd get a service technician out by the end of the day or the next. By 6:30pm Friday night we figured we'd have to wait until tomorrow or the following week but just as I was about to take dinner out of the oven, Joel (the actual business owner) called and said he could come by right away. In less than 10 minutes Joel fixed the problem (I couldn't have fixed it via my App as it turns out and the videos weren't correct either) and our kitchen blind was functioning as it should. We were thrilled beyond beyond belief to have the problem solved. And on a Friday evening at 6:30pm, WHO DOES THAT? Thank you Joel, you are amazing and the best example of customer service EVER. But after realizing I was giving way too many people on the streets of Chicago a free peep show of me in underwear I decided it was time to invest in blinds. And like most things in our life (groceries, tvs, and even auto insurance) my husband and I turned to Costco. Costco has a deal with Custom Decorators when it comes to blinds. I gave my info to one of Costco's employees standing in the blind section and about 2 days later I was greeted with a call from Wayne at Custom Decorators, my very own blind decorator! After playing phone tag for a few days Wayne and I set up an appointment so he could come by and tell me my options. I already had my heart set on wood blinds, but when Wayne showed up he convinced me wood blinds would be too dark for our loft style condo and said we should consider the duette honeycomb shades instead. And then he gave me an estimate of $3000 for 5 large windows- my husband pretty much choked when he heard the price. A few days later I called Wayne back and told him I liked the look of the shades he suggested, but I had a budget of $1500 for blinds and to provide me with options within my price range. He came by again and gave us a similar option- the only difference pretty much being that the cord was longer for the less expensive blinds. And for a savings of $1500 we can deal with a long cord! We placed our order and a few weeks later received a call that our blinds were in and needed to be installed! Thank goodness- no more peep shows for the neighbors! My only complaint is that when they called to set up the installation they had me believing that the entire process would take about an hour. While the installer who showed up was very nice and knowledgeable about the blinds it took more like 4 hours, which caused me to miss a few meetings I had planned for later in the day. 2 days later we're enjoying the new shades and I'm guessing the neighbors are grateful as well....

I have NEVER been so frustrated, disappointed, inconvenienced and disgusted with the lack of communication, trust, customer support, communication or workmanship that this company (Custom Decorators: 8100 SW Nyberg St, Tualatin, OR 97062) has put us through. I am contacting my credit card company to see if there is anything I may do to recoup any money but fear that the time delay tactics they have used may have effectively screwed my chances. DO NOT call JC PENNEY for custom window design services or CUSTOM DECORATORS out of Tualatin, Oregon...I have been fighting with them since May 16, 2025 when I paid the invoice in full (today is September 21, 2025) and the drapery order has still not been completed satisfactorily.
