But after realizing I was giving way too many people on the streets of Chicago a free peep show of me in underwear I decided it was time to invest in blinds. And like most things in our life (groceries, tvs, and even auto insurance) my husband and I turned to Costco. Costco has a deal with Custom Decorators when it comes to blinds. I gave my info to one of Costco's employees standing in the blind section and about 2 days later I was greeted with a call from Wayne at Custom Decorators, my very own blind decorator! After playing phone tag for a few days Wayne and I set up an appointment so he could come by and tell me my options. I already had my heart set on wood blinds, but when Wayne showed up he convinced me wood blinds would be too dark for our loft style condo and said we should consider the duette honeycomb shades instead. And then he gave me an estimate of $3000 for 5 large windows- my husband pretty much choked when he heard the price. A few days later I called Wayne back and told him I liked the look of the shades he suggested, but I had a budget of $1500 for blinds and to provide me with options within my price range. He came by again and gave us a similar option- the only difference pretty much being that the cord was longer for the less expensive blinds. And for a savings of $1500 we can deal with a long cord! We placed our order and a few weeks later received a call that our blinds were in and needed to be installed! Thank goodness- no more peep shows for the neighbors! My only complaint is that when they called to set up the installation they had me believing that the entire process would take about an hour. While the installer who showed up was very nice and knowledgeable about the blinds it took more like 4 hours, which caused me to miss a few meetings I had planned for later in the day. 2 days later we're enjoying the new shades and I'm guessing the neighbors are grateful as well....

So I want to start by saying that my consultant Carol was amazing. Unfortunately it all went…read moreterrible after that. My contract stated that the contractor was supposed to uninstall my curtain rod and then reinstall it after the blinds were installed. He refused to take the curtain rod down, telling me it didn't need to be done. After he left I discovered that because of how close the curtain rod was to the blinds, I could not open or close my curtains as they would get stuck on the blinds. I called the contractor back and he told me that I need to fix it myself. We took the rod down ourselves and then found that the contractor had not bothered to install the right side valance return. I contacted Custom Decorators and received some of the worst customer service I have ever had. I requested the missing return be installed and for a different contractor before assigned as the first one refused to do the job I signed a contract for. Instead thry had the same contractor call me! I again requested they send a different contractor and requested to know what they would be doing about the missing return. I received a response stating there would be a different contractor. I again asked about the missing return and their customer service agent never replied to my email. About two weeks later I got a phone call from another contractor. I explained everything and sent him a picture of my blinds with the missing return. He said he would contact Custom Decorators and get back to me. This was on April 20th. It is now May 7th. No one has reached out to me since. Do not do business with this company. The contractor they use refuses to follow the instructions on the legally binding contract that I signed and paid for, and then their customer service literally ignored everything I spelled out in emails and the service requests on their website. I'm stuck with blinds that are missing a piece and will have to waste money hiring someone to install a new curtain rod.
