She has been extremely patient with my decision making - always finding options that I feel comfortable with. (It's scary when you are a first time buyer- and realize how much it really is to furnish a home). We started off having a bunch of pre calls- where she got the vibe of me and my girlfriend's taste. And let me tell you .... It's not an easy feat when my style is PNW/ midcentury modern and my gf is English country side/ northeast . But we are SOOOOOOO happy. She sent us a doc of exactly what we were looking for- and even did it in phases. Little by little .... Am I right ? My favorite part- she always helps schedule and makes the delivery process up so smooth, I never have to worry about it. She is so responsive and on it. Thank you so much Julia- for making this semi - stressful task .... Fun!

Review for Sheila Botke, Avalon Interior Designs…read more March 2014 By Stephanie T., retired teacher I bought my 1955 "mid-century modern" house in SE last July, and immediately began a lot of much-needed updating and remodeling. A few weeks later, when I was about to decide on my paint colors, an acquaintance suggested I might want to meet with a really good interior designer he knew named Sheila Botke - just for a short consultation. I kept putting off calling her. I guess I was feeling a little bit nervous and intimidated since I'd never worked with a designer before. I just couldn't imagine myself flipping through books of brocade fabric swatches with a designer -- choking at prices I would never be able to afford. Well, happily, it turned out that my fears were unfounded. I ended up feeling totally at ease with Sheila and actually having a really good time with her. She's not only exceptionally good at what she does, but she's also just a super sweet person who's a lot of fun to be around. She has a wide variety of resources to draw from. She can show you beautiful samples of anything you're needing, from blinds and curtains, to rugs and paint colors. I loved the interesting "outside the box" ideas and samples she came up with. Very creative and cool! She knows all the great retail and wholesale sources as well, and will shop with you for tile, lighting, couches... whatever you need. Having a designer that's well-connected in the trade community is a big plus. I used her hardwood floor guy and her painter and can't say enough about the quality of their work. Nothing fell through the cracks, thanks to Sheila's diligence. She had my back the entire time my remodel was going on -- catching others' mistakes and putting out small fires before they turned into real issues. She made time for me no matter how hectic her schedule was, always making sure I had what I need when I needed it! Wow. Pretty impressive. Knowledgeable about code as well as colors, she has a discerning eye for detail. I just can't imagine finding a better designer than Sheila. She's a natural at what she does. She's got the gift of being able to look at a space, indoors or out, and know just how to transform it into something that REALLY works. I call it Sheila Magic. ;-) Totally professional, extremely knowledgeable, and a real joy to work with...that's Sheila. Don't hesitate to call her and see for yourself.

She looked at the place, we agreed to do business and then we met at a tile shop to go over materials. There were a variety of missteps, including the tile selection, but the most inconvenient was that for the countertop she recommended a style of quartz that, as it turned out, was sold only in large slabs. We needed a small piece. Most of what the store offered came only in large slabs. When time was of the essence because of the contractor's schedule, we ended up going to a remnant dealer and making a selection from what was on hand. Overall, Karen showed a lack of attention to detail and seemed to disregard the financial "allowances" set by our contractor. I'd have posted this review sooner, but did not know she was on Yelp.

FIVE STAR EXPERIENCE…read more What an absolute honor it has been to work with Allison Smith Design again. A few months ago, we purchased a vacation home in Scottsdale, AZ. We knew exactly who we would trust to remodel and transform our dated 1980's home into a modern & inviting sanctuary with an artisan feel. Part of the creative process was sharing my inspiration boards with Allison which allowed her to create a space that reflects and embodies our personality and taste. The architectural revisions she made in the kitchen really opened up the space and provided the open concept we were looking for. Her ability to solve problems when issues arose was quick, effective and intuitive. We absolutely love all the materials, colors, textures and finishes that Allison chose. The combination of the neutral travertine floors against the rich grey cabinets is stunning. The stark white walls allow the dark beams in the ceiling to be the star player. Her attention to detail throughout the home from the paint colors, lighting, window treatments, plumbing fixtures down to the hardware, every detail was meticulously selected to achieve a cohesive, stimulating and inviting space. Allison reinvigorated our home with all new furniture. The combination of supple leathers, textured fabrics, rich woods and unique statement pieces that really give the home an artisan flair. It's not just inside that counts, she also brought life to our outdoor space by creating a serene oasis for us to escape and relax. Allison and her team are incredibly responsive, truly talented, friendly and dedicated to giving their clients not only a beautiful home but a wonderful experience while creating it. I highly recommend Allison Smith Design.
