Listen to "Sent Away" on whatever podcast app you use. Very surprising this place is still open, or that nobody has heard of it.

Least integrity! They rip off graduated students who work there. I applied as a therapist, had a negative vibe.

She had to stay a months and a half longer to graduate we I was assured she would be done with school before she turned 18. They didn't push her to make that happen. The do not push to figure out issues and they talk about being relationship driven, NO, my daughter went there and we where all civil and 6 months later we have no contact other than" you can write letters to her". And on top of that she is now 18 and they cannot give us any info about her. I feel for how much they charge there should have been a noticeable difference in the way my child acts. Wish we would have done a better search and possibly found a facility that would better the situation. Just my 2. You do as you see is best for your child.

The 1 star reviews definitely mirror my daughter's experience at Copper Hills where there was no family therapy (therapist was off screen, didn't talk or encourage my daughter to talk, my daughter would scream or yell obscenities at me or would ignore me), what was advertised as activities never happened, and fellow students were violent and attacked each other as well as the staff. DRS has been the polar opposite! Every director is passionate about their field of expertise. Every therapist is well trained and has helped my daughter as well as me. While many of the cabin staff are college students, they like the girls and hold them accountable. No matter what happens, every person my child has come in contact with on the ranch has helped her through her problems and issues. Every moment is a teaching/therapeutic moment for the girls. The issue that it seems some parents have faced is the willingness of their child to internalize all of the therapy they have available to them. I'm proud to say that my daughter calls me her hero (crazy turn around from the days I was blamed for all of her problems), we communicate often (I wrote to her but she never wrote back to me but she would call me often), we had wonderful family therapy sessions and talked about real life things (we also had sessions where she cried and didn't want to talk to me), she has found a passion for her future where once she thought she wouldn't make it to 17 (now she wants to be a vet after being involved with her calf and being in the equine program). I am over the moon, and my dad and brother both see her growth. She will still periodically dysregulate (she is still a teen after all!), but now she uses the skills she has learned to right herself. A program will only work if the child works the program. The ranch is gorgeous, and they provide activities and outings to those who reach a certain phase. The kids have so many opportunities to get help not only therapeutically but also socially and academically. I have not met any employee who doesn't care for the kids. Any child who has been put in a hold has been either a danger to herself or others. I think we all need to remember that the children at the ranch all have issues so to think that it is horrible that there would be kind of outbursts, holds or consequences is not realistic. Honestly, DRS looks for ways for the kids to own their mistakes and move forward when I might be more inclined to take a privilege away if the same behavior occurred at home. My daughter and I have learned to communicate better, and she can clearly express how she is feeling and that helps me know how to help her better. I feel we have been so blessed to land at DRS, and I would recommend it to anyone in the same position as my daughter who was once described as "circling the drain" with her impulsive and dangerous behaviors and choices. She is no longer that girl, and DRS deserves all of the credit for helping her get to the emotional place she is now. She has received nothing but support, guidance, tough love, and encouragement in her endeavors. I am eternally grateful to all of the staff for giving me back my girl!!

I experienced treatment that was abusive and deeply traumatic. This included physical abuse, sexual misconduct and violations of my privacy, food deprivation, extreme physical demands, and being required to drink water from outdoor troughs that contained dead animals. I still possess original photographs taken with a Kodak camera showing dead rats and horses in water sources that we were required to drink. At times we were required to eat things such as dirt, I was not permitted to wear underwear, including while menstruating. This resulted in humiliating circumstances that have stayed with me for more than two decades.I also experienced serious violations of my privacy involving a male staff member. After experiencing excruciating kidney pain for days while continuing to hike, I was eventually taken to a hospital. While I was changing clothes, hospital personnel told the male staff member accompanying me that he needed to leave the room. After leaving with hospital personnel, he returned while I was still undressed. During my time in the wilderness, I also experienced situations in which I was required to undress while a male staff member remained present. These experiences were profoundly distressing to me as a 17-year-old girl. He was in his 50s gross! Another disturbing part of my experience involved the circumstances surrounding how I arrived at RedCliffe.I was a Texas resident. My mother was the person who arranged for me to be taken to the program. RedCliffe personnel picked me up in Nevada. I was blindfolded, transported for hours in the back of a vehicle, and eventually taken into the Utah wilderness.I repeatedly told RedCliffe personnel that my father had custody of me, that he did not know where I was, and that they needed to contact him. I also told hospital personnel this when I was taken for medical treatment. Redcliffe made sure I didn't make any phone calls while at the hospital and portrayed me as a troubled teenager with mental-health problems whose statements should not be believed when I begged for my father! My father was not contacted and he ultimately had to break into my mother's home to find info of where I was. He then contacted RedCliffe. And they would not share my whereabout. He then drove from Houston, Texas, to Utah to find me. The staff tried to loose him when started following staff members! One of the things that has remained with me most strongly is that we were not routinely addressed by our names. I remember being identified by a number. After leaving the program, I continued calling out that number because I had become accustomed to responding to it rather than my name. And was in fear of my life and the consequences if I did not.The psychological effects did not simply disappear when I left.More than two decades later, I continue to associate St. George and southern Utah with what happened to me. I recently had a family reunion planned in St. George that I ultimately could not attend because of the overwhelming anxiety and panic I experienced leading up to the trip. It has taken me approximately 23 years to become comfortable enough to publicly describe these experiences. I am now seeking information about my legal rights and intend to report what I experienced to the appropriate Utah licensing authorities and law-enforcement agencies. I am also seeking legal advice regarding the sexual misconduct and other treatment I experienced.. I still possess photographs from that period, including photographs documenting the conditions and water sources I described. I am sharing this publicly because it took me decades to feel capable of doing so! Do not send your children here!! What happened to me at RedCliffe Ascent has affected me for more than two decades. I believe my experience deserves to be heard, investigated, and taken seriously. Let me also say that the staff will respond to this with the same generic copy and pasted response that says the Internet is a tricky place...hippa laws and how there's no way to prove I was an actual student. I will be posting my drivers license, the custody agreement out of Harris County Texas the names of the staff who sexually assaulted me and my hospital transcript of my stay. I'm going to make it very clear who I am, when I attended and my entire paper everyone involved. I will expose the psychologist and the men there that sexually assault little girls! I can make it real un tricky real quick by proving with custody orders, proof of residency, name and drivers license and my entire Redcliffe file and hospital stay!!! run from this place!!
