We had been to Home Depot previously and bought two kitchen under-the- counter light units but did not know if they would fit,or how to install them. We found KC Electrical Services from Delta, a town close to where we live, on the internet. Two men showed up for the consultation on the first day who looked like father and son, but I don't know for sure if they were related. They looked under the cabinets, and said they didn't think the two units we bought would fit, and they'd order the right ones off the internet. They said they'd call when they came in. They did absolutely nothing the first visit, except trip the breaker, and all the lights went out, They both immediately said, "I didn't do it, I didn't do it", which was ridiculous because no one else in the house had touched anything. So my husband flipped the breaker back on, and they left. At NO TIME did they say that they would charge for the first visit or how much, though all they did was dawdle around and stare at each other, though they did take over an hour doing so. When they showed up with the electrical units on the second visit, they installed them pretty quickly and gave my husband the price of the work. We were absolutely appalled! They said $445.00! We immediately asked why his pricing was so prohibitively high. He said he had to charge for the one and a half hour visit the first time, (during which he and his buddy did NOTHING). He said that was $135.00 because his time is very valuable, and he has to charge for gas, travel time, etc. Then he said he was charging for the price of the light units and their labor, and again, time and gas. I know after working with many workmen in several homes, that it is customary for a service to state what they will charge for the initial visit, or consultation. If they are not hired for the job, they may require payment for the consultation. Many times, consultations are complimentary. At no time, did this KC Electrical Service mention any charge for initial visit. Then if a service is hired for the job, they generally apply the consultation charge towards the job. This is the most common practice, and I have dealt with electrical, air conditioning, house painters, construction workers, and on and on. In the opinion of my husband and I, KC Electrical Services is a rip-off and should not be hired for any job!!

They were at my home for about 4 hours. Keaton drove in from Montrose and snarfed me $50 for that. They sourced the outdoor flood lights and motion activated model unit at the local Home Depot. They also bought 2 Lutron 3ways to replace by kitchen light switches. The motion sensor flood light was ~ $100, and the Lutron's are $30-50 (x2) and the garage lights were about $50 for a six pack and the LED and outdoor covers should be about $50. Two sconce lights were $25 apiece. Total for hardware should be about $350 plus $50 for travel is $400 by my math. Total cost of work was $1200. Assuming the cost of the hardware was $300 their labor was $800 for 8 hours work which is $100 per hour. Since I hail from Phoenix I am used to a more competitive market for this type of work. Labor was NOT separated from cost of materiel which made it difficult to figure out what their true rate was. Bottom line they did everything I asked expertly as delineated in the invoice. However, they may be too pricey for some. If I use them in the future, I will have them price and procure each hardware item and put in a spreadsheet so I can add them up before they start work. I would negotiate their rate to a reasonable amount before making another contract with them.

I have never written a negative review.. but this one calls for it…read more This was truly one of the owrst experiences I have ever had with a vendor. I had this company do a large eletrical job at my property 2 years ago where they redid some eletrical boxes on a property we were purchasing. I was having issues in our small (800 sq ft) ADU with the eletrcial out in half of the home. The breaker was not tripped. I called them because they have record of our home's eletric. They came to the home and later that day when our tenant arrived back, the problem persisted. I received an invoice the next day for over 400.00 for 3 hours of labor with 2 guys. They said they switched the breaker, but couldnt find the breaker box (that they put on our house 2 years previous).. so it took them 3 hours to find the box on an 800 sq. ft house. I called them explaining that the problem was not addressed, and that I would pay the invoice in full if we could address the issue. The admin ladies were so rude to me. They spoke over me, would not let me explain, or negotiate and said that they would charge me the same amount to return. So I proceeded to ask if we could negotiate the invoice as the work was not completed and they should have review their records on our house or called me if they could not find the box... She proceeded to say if I dont pay they will take me to collections and that there is no negotiating. I even told them I would pay for transportation and an hour of time, SHE REFUSED, still threatening to take us to collections. I paid my invoice because o fher threats and have now resorted to writing my experience. I DO NOT recommend working with this company..

While in the process of closing the sale on a new home in Hotchkiss Colorado, I notified the home seller about an electrical issue affecting an irrigation pump on the property. He contracted with hometown electric to come out and fix a short. Essentially, the on-off switch was shocking anyone who turned the pump on. An electrician from Hometown Electric came and assessed the problem. They stated that it was completely fixed and resolved. Several weeks later when attempting to turn on the irrigation pump I was again shocked. This was the same exact issue that had supposedly been resolved several weeks earlier. I again contacted hometown electric now as the home owner. They sent a different electrician to assess the problem. On this visit they stated the problem was with the pump itself and could not be fixed by their electricians. Hometown Electric sent an invoice to both myself for the 2nd visit and to the original home owner for the original visit. I have disputed the 2nd invoice, stating to their representatives that the original problem was never addressed and misdiagnosed initially. After 2 separate visits from their electricians, nothing has been fixed and the irrigation pump continues to shock anyone who turns it on and off. I do think it is reasonable to pay the initial invoice but I do not think it reasonable to pay the 2nd invoice as the problem was never addressed or able to be fixed on either visit, and it took their electricians 2 visits to figure it out. They insist the problems were separate issues that somehow occurred within weeks of each other, and were causing the same exact problem. This is ridiculous and an example of a professional trying to take advantage of someone without trade knowledge. I would never use them again and have reported them to BBB.
