We had planned on doing a west facing wall but after showing Dave around at our problem areas and weighing the return on investment we decided on the attic. The first team removed all the old insulation with a giant vacuum, the took about 5 hours, the next team came the following day and sprayed in the new foam. There was one little issue that caused damage to the ceiling. They handled the issue like a professional company. They quickly let us know about the issue and had a repair scheduled the same day. After deciding to bring in a professional, Randy came out to my home, thoroughly assessed the problem areas, and put together a detailed quote on the spot. The scope of work included removal of the existing insulation, air sealing around all attic entry points, sanitizing, air baffle installation, and installation of new Weather Blanket cellulose insulation. The new cellulose achieves an R-value that meets or exceeds Illinois code requirements. Paragon's pricing was competitive, though admittedly a bit higher than some of the larger corporate outfits. What made the difference was Randy's willingness to walk me through the entire plan and clearly explain what justified the investment. One night the heat went out and the indoor temp dropped to 49 degrees, so that sealed the deal, we needed better insulation. They also encapsulated the crawl space with spray foam. Turns out there were mice living down there that we had no idea about. One even fell on a worker while they were pulling out the old stuff. Made sure to tell my wife who was on the fence originally about having this done. Big difference since then. No more mice sightings, heating bills are noticeably lower, and the house stays comfortable even when it's really cold outside. Solid work all around. Tony (the owner...this is a small, family-owned business) called me back within hours, and came to my house within a couple of days. He inspected the attic, measured the house himself, and gave me an estimate within 2 days. His estimate was several hundred dollars less that the other estimate I received, and included everything I wanted (cellulose, air-sealing of attic penetrations, baffles/vents for the soffit ventilation). Tony s employees John and Adam came this past Monday (9/30/2013) and did a great job! They never stopped working, kept my house immaculate (even devising a plastic sheet chute dropping down from the attic to keep the stuff from floating around). (BTW, the blowing part was much quieter than I expected). They built a dam around the attic opening, so the cellulose could be blown up the the correct depth, and attached extra insulation to the back of my attic opening. I m pretty fussy about home improvements...want the best value for the money, while getting the job done right. Tony and his crew met all my expectations, and more. I would highly recommend them! I had very specific engineering requirements for our build to achieve a very high performance, Thermal comfort gave us what I required. I had a previous Spray foam contractor from a prior build and received 3 additional bids for this 2020 project. I choose Thermal comfort from the 4 companies for several reasons and I am very pleased that I did. Closed cell IMO is the only way to go, that said the install is critical and the site crew was fantastic. George, was the lead and listened to my install concerns and did an excellent job.
