They don't allow golf carts in the parking lot so you want to get there early to allow adequate time for check-in. The course was in very good condition. Tee boxes were well marked and in good repair. The fairways are not exceedingly wide so you will be in trouble if you are not accurate off the tee. My biggest complaint was all the granite rocks, just a real pain and on several holes can really impact your shot selection. There is some up and down and few elevated tee boxes but not a lot. My favorite hole was #17, a 135 yard Par 3. There is a big granite rock that partially blocks a clear path/view to an elevated green. You don't want to be left or you are on Mt Rushmore and not in a good way.

A lot of trees are gone, the swampy area (which we called the flats) seems to have been drained, and I noted the course was in excellent condition. It seemed to me to be shorter and play easier than I remember, but I really only remembered 2 holes (#10 at the end of a runway, which i remember as #1 and #2 which i remember in general but not where on the course it was). But... it's been 40 years and I may be misremembering. Anyway, the course is forgiving. My drives were not spectacular, but u was able to hit approach shots on or near enough to the green to score mostly pass and bogeys... in a soaking rain. As a veteran, I payed $38 to walk, which i thought reasonable. After, i went to the grill for lunch. However, no one had noticed me for two minutes, and, since I was wet and uncomfortable, I left and drove back to connecticut. I definitely want to go back on a warm, sunny day!

The park is located along the Atlantic seacoast in Rye, not far from Portsmouth. The area is the site of the Pannaway Plantation: the first European settlement in New Hampshire. Settled in 1622, the plantation was completely abandoned by the 1630s when the settlers moved to nearby Strawberry Banke. The land was settled in the mid-1660s by the Odiorne Family, whom the park is now named after. From 1942 to 1947, the park was the home of Fort Dearborn. The ruins of the deactivated World War II-era fort can still be seen today. Today the park is home to hiking trails, bike paths, a playground, picnic areas, pavilions, and a Seacoast Science Center which opened in 1992. My family and I visited Odiorne Point State Park this summer while we were heading to Maine for a summer getaway. We had some time to kill before we could check in to our AirBnb, so we decided to stop at the park. We had fun exploring the grounds and my two sons especially enjoyed playing on the nautical-themed playground. The highlight of the park is the Seacoast Science Center. There are all sorts of exhibits devoted to the conservation of marine and coastal environments. My two sons loved learning about whales, local shellfish populations, the local fishing industry, the fight against ocean pollution, and underwater exploration. There was even a cool gift shop where we picked up a few things. Whether you live in the area or you're just passing through like us, Odiorne Point State Park is a fun place for the whole family!

I feel the need to preface all of my nature reviews with this: being 90% forested and having around…read more3500 miles of coastline, Maine (and NH) has a tremendous amount of spaces, walkways, paths, and trails of all kinds and of all levels. There's something for everyone. What I'm reviewing is how a spot compares to similar outdoor spots in my personal opinion. Being in nature - and remembering to carry in, carry out - is always five stars! :) Parking? Yes. Loop trail? Yes. Well marked signs? Yes. Element of surprise? Yes. I was looking for state parks in New Hampshire and this one caught my eye because of the name, if we're being honest. It sounded magical! So was the way it was advertised: "picnickers can enjoy sweeping views of the ocean and rocky shore, and explorers can uncover evidence of past military occupation. An extensive network of trails wind through the dense vegetation and traverse the park. [t]he property is also renowned for its... seven distinct habitats that can be visited within an hour's walk. Although the spectacular rocky shore is the one of the most notable, the woodlands, uplands, salt marsh, freshwater and salt ponds, and sandy beach (non-swimming) combine to create one of the region's most diverse nature walks." I like a little bit of everything, and this sounded like it had just that! The first time I came I bought a pass online; when we arrived it was a freak snowstorm and we were the only ones there. So we had a literal winter wonderland to play around it. The views from the coast were lovely and offer plenty of picnic tables to sit and enjoy yourself at, but exploring the woods that day was even more amazing - we spent a lot of time with a big buck who kept finding himself lazily meandering on the same trail as us. Thank goodness for binoculars! And the element of surprise! There was also some tremendously graffitied old batteries, a breakwater (that becomes nearly inaccessible when the tide is high; reversely when the tide is low that same area exposes a Sandy beach), there's an area called Pirate's Cove, an old cemetery, and Dolphin Fountain (which looks like it belongs in France, not NH). This became an immediate favorite! I can't wait to come back and see it in Spring and Summer! (SIDE NOTE: There's also the Seacoast Science Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit, that provides educational exhibits related to the seacoast area for a separate fee; but, I haven't been able to check that out yet!)

The cedar soaking tub they had was such a lovely addition and it was so great to use after a long full day. They also had an entire welcome binder outlining local restaurant, attractions, and other places of interest. Jonas came out to welcome us and they both asked if we wanted to meet their dog Shasta...they explained she's big but friendly. She was; and so happy and silly, we even got her to roll over. This farm feels well protected with this beautiful girl manning the farm. In any event they showed us around and everything is so well designed and everywhere you walk there is art. I love farm swings as I remember them at my grandparents farm and one of their swings fit both of us and we had a blast swinging amongst the friendly chickens, singing and laughing. I just felt healthier amongst all the nature and beauty and had no idea how much the sounds of a farm would delight us. This was exactly the unique farm experience I was seeking for my kiddo. She chose a farm experience over amusement park experience or more beach time and here we couldn't get away from the animals, in a great way. Goats, chickens (so happy and fun), cats, and of course Shasta and friendly proprietors that went out of their way for my kiddo. We fully intended to use the fire pit but the first day we had been at the beach all day and conked out early. And the second night was rainy and we were tired from a lot of travel but we did have an excellent night sleep, listening to the rain. And with the yoga, I never inquired as we do some at home on YouTube and I'm awkward doing it and really we're here for the animals. We just got done running with the goats and collecting eggs from the chicken coop, all the while being educated in a kid friendly way about the animals, their food, the different species, and all about the different colored eggs. Fascinating. And BONUS, they shared/gave my daughter a little book about one of their goats, named Olaf that is about bullying and conquering it and a coloring book she spent a-lot of time on yesterday . I can't thank Amylyn and Jonas enough for providing such an interactive, relaxing, and fun time at a beautifully designed property that delights the eye with all the art (much created from trees and other resources on the property. Their love of animals, their farm, each other and what they do makes for a warm and loving experience. Their stories about the animals are so cool- their chickens don't get eaten, they live their full lives, and what happy and healthy chickens they are. Luna, the goat had a stroke a while back and they lovingly got her back in action after quite the recovery. Happy people doing what they love on this farm. We are lucky they love it so much they want to share it The location is AMAZING.. a couple miles from gorgeous beaches (that's definitely my thing so we got the best of both worlds here) Pics are on the way
