Did not listen to anything I said; he asked me what I've been struggling with and immediately cut me off to say that my diagnosis of major depressive disorder (which I have been struggling with for about 15 years) is incorrect and that people use it as a catch-all. Apparently it's impossible to be depressed and grieving over the sudden death of your partner at the same time, who knew? I brought in something I'd written in advance that explained some of my background and what I'm dealing with, which would convey this information much more quickly than me having to explain it verbally. My paper was dramatically slapped face down on the table and he told me that wasn't going to read it and that he "needed to hear it from me." As expected, the entire session was wasted going through a pointless checklist. No, I wasn't sexually abused as a child, I would have brought that up earlier. But he probably wouldn't have bothered to listen. He views gays with at least some degree of ignorance and contempt. He didn't know what Truvada was (I had to explain to him that it prevents you from getting HIV), and then later in the session assumed I was HIV-positive, which I am not. All of the negative reviews of him follow my exact experience of being disrespected, interrupted and dismissed. If you're going to treat your patients with such contempt, either retire or move somewhere that's more in line with your "quaint" worldview, doc. Needless to say I will never be returning and I will ask the doctor that referred me to this walking testament to why people are skeptical of the mental health system and asking that he be removed from their list of referrals. You know you've failed as a psychiatrist when your patient leaves more suicidal than when they came in.

I have tried for the past month to call, email, and contact via patient portal for explanation with no response. I can't even get a response in order to get my medical records. What a waste of time - I feel so stupid for letting this place take advantage of my time, money, and patience for this long.

I'll preface all of the following with this warning: This is my OPINION, and for something like this it's highly advised you do your homework and not go off of reviews on Yelp, Google or any other thing. Make your own opinions. This isn't a dry cleaner or a restaurant...this is something you need to decide on your own. I can at least tell you my business so you understand what you are walking into at a very high level. The office is very clean and nice and I found the front office staff EXTREMELY kind and welcoming. That's extremely important here as it sets the tone for the appointment. If it is your very first visit you'll more than likely be asked to do a drug screen, which I appreciated because it does tell you they take precautions and are pretty responsible not to give anything to someone who is there with ulterior motives. My nurse was actually someone new to the practice who was doing her clinical training so we swapped stories and she took me back to see Ms. Donald who is the NP here. A little thing about NPs....I've seen some folks rag on NPs, and I don't understand why. While they may not be MDs, they are trained to do most everything except surgical stuff. My primary care doc is an NP in a practice with an MD, just like here. She prescribes things and diagnoses stuff just like her MD counterpart and I've never went "You can't do that because you aren't an MD" because she's more than qualified. It's a bit of a peeve to see people who should have done their homework act rude because Donald is a NP and gripe that she's not an MD. Guess what...NPs are medical professionals too. Do your homework though and know everything ahead of time. I already knew she was licensed and I did my leg work ahead of time. When I walked into her office she greeted me warmly and we talked about my issues. Without going all up in it, I have issues with anxiety and sleep and I tend to try and "do it on my own" instead of seeking help, which is never cool. You shouldn't be ashamed by the way to seek help. She was professional and kind and, more importantly, she helped. Nothing was pushed on me. Nothing was shady. I left knowing that i had been heard. When I was checking out the front desk ladies told me about Frisco Pharmacy which is right down the road. I had mentioned that the Walgreens I go to always seems to be out of everything and they let me know that Frisco Pharmacy usually has everything they prescribe and that they can have it ready in 10 minutes, as that is a selling point the pharmacy has printed on all it's promo material. I appreciate that they call and ask if it's in stock so that I know in the office if my meds are ready. Overall, I'm happy that I chose this practice. Are there places that will prescribe anything? Absolutely. I've got firsthand knowledge of those and let me tell you and they've been in affluent areas with an MD so don't think I don't know what to look for. I'm leaving this review so that you can see that a real person went here though. My experience might not be like yours but at least you see what you are getting into. Don't be scared to ask for help. I promise it's better than suffering through whatever you are going through.

They will also assume you are a drug and alcohol abuser. So they ask for your cars license plate on the first page of your paperwork and tell you up front they will call the police if you show up drunk. WHAT ON EARTH?!!! If I use an alcohol based mouth wash, you feel like you can call the police & report me. Let this non drinker save you the work by not coming in. No trust towards your clients means no one will trust you either. God help us all. When did counseling after being a victim turn into "This" type of nightmare. Don't offer "trauma" anything, your not equipped to deal with normal humans that had been traumatized. I would stake my reputation on it.

Since my teens (a very long time ago) I've been in and out of therapy. I've probably seen around 15 different therapists. I've moved. They've moved. Many, I only saw a couple of times before realizing they just weren't a good fit for me. Then there was the one that had a creepy ass collection of porcelain dolls in her office. They stared at me. I never returned. So, let's just say I've been around the block a few times when it comes to therapists. K? I contacted Amy originally about couples counseling. My partner and I went in and after the first session I knew I found someone special. She was very different than anyone I had seen before... Now let me back up. Previously, my experience with therapists always left me with the feeling that they were simply my personal paid cheerleaders. Yay me!!! They would pet me (ummm.. metaphorically), smile and nod, make all my feelings about life feel validated, give me a sucker and send me off into the world freshly stroked. Rinse. Repeat the following week. I didn't hate that. Enter Amy G. She took my sucker, tossed it aside and put a mirror in front of me. Then she made me look. WTF??? Ugh!!! She's making me DO THINGS!?!? Yeah ok... that didn't literally happen but that's pretty much how I felt. Was it scary? Hell yes. Did it need to happen? Yes, it certainly did. I never knew how much I needed a good hard look at myself. She is authentic AF. Honest and forthright. She will dig deep. She will challenge you. She will find things buried that you don't even remember hiding. Then she will make you look at it. Hard. You will confront it and it will be a bit daunting... and then.. It won't. Before you know it she's rinsing off your sucker and giving it back to you with a smile... and sometimes a joke (Yes, she cleans you out emotionally then can still make you laugh. Black magic perhaps??). Now, off you go with a new personal "knowing" or understanding about yourself. Eventually figuring out together what to do with it. In summation, if you're simply looking for a belly rub and a tickle... Move along. If you're ready to do some work and make some changes.. See Amy. She's kinda awesome. ...and maybe magic...
