While searching desperately for discontinued frames, I came across Insight. While they didn't have what I needed, the responsive and friendly service from Jennie and Mike was stellar. If I was paying for my eye-doctor to have an office that looked like a condo building, Insight would get 5 stars. Otherwise, they get zero stars for everything else. This place is an absolute fortune and an absolute factory conveyer belt system. Everything is made as complicated as humanly possible for the client so that the doctors can spend as little time with them as possible. Instead, you have to spend tons of time with interns who are so anxious and scared, their hands shake when they put them near your eyes - and who can barely convey accurate info to the doctor that the client is not allowed to go near. My consent did not matter for any part of the process and worst of all, they didn't come close to even improving my eye problem, let alone fixing it - before I gave up on them. So I now have to go pay someone else to start all over. read more

I have mixed feelings about Insight: On one hand, when I go for an eye exam I really feel I'm getting the best possible and most professional care available. The exam is extremely thorough. In fact maybe more thorough that I actually want. I wish they would give the option of getting just a vision test, versus a whole barrage of eye examination tests. It's probably good to have it done, and personally, I don't really mind paying, but I can see that many would have an issue with this. The staff involved in the patient intake and pre-examination are really fantastic. Everyone is so personable and eager to help and they all seem to enjoy their work. On the other hand, they take every opportunity to have you sit down with one of the glasses selling staff. It sure feels like sitting down at the car dealership with a salesperson. They try pretty hard through subtle means to get you to order glasses while you're there. The glasses prices seem high and I'm not convinced there's any difference in quality over the local discount places. Other people clearly love every aspect of the place, from the examination to the purchase of glasses. This is just my personal observation based on limited exposure to this professionally run and excellent optometry clinic. read more

the staff are really nice but I ended up realizing that they are less cooperating after they find out you are not going to buy the glasses from them and giving wrong information about the coverage from the government they are supposed give ! last but the most important thing is , though the optometrist was really great at her job , I ended up getting the wrong power on a small piece of paper which really doesn't look professional at all! how did I find out the power was wrongfully prescribed? well, I made three different payers of glasses from three different company and results were exactly 100 Percent same! I can actually see better without them. couple of times I thought if it was in the USA,,,,, well they would have giving millions of dollars of penalties after getting sued! read more

I decided to give insight a try after a really bad experience at another eye place and I really could not recommend them more. I researched a lot and finally decided to book an appointment after comparing them to many other local places. Everybody there is so sweet and kind. I love how thorough they are each time I go and Dr Roach is just brilliant. I especially like the complimentary coffee and cappuccinos they have in the waiting area they are so good!! I will never go back to this optometrist. I switched to them because I got rid of my car and I am sorry I did. This last visit did me in. First, when I called to book the appointment, I told them I didn't feel I needed another retinal photograph (it costs $70 and usually isn't covered). They ushered me into a room and did it anyway (I didn't remember what the machine they took me to was for). Then they did the usual 'take her out and strongarm her to buy our lenses' even though I told the optician that I couldn't afford their lenses and frames. They sent a fellow out to harass me about my budget, criticize me, rant about online purchases and make me feel small and cheap. I'm not, just choose to economize as my prescription changes regularly. Instead of making a sales approach based on quality, he was rude and snarky. I felt they did not listen to me and deliberately made me feel bad- especially as they had a lengthy discussion before the salesman came out behind the partition. I've had it. I'll never darken their door again. read more

Went here for the first time after my previous optometrist retired. Super friendly staff and the optometrist I had was great. However! While I was waiting for further tests, I was wrangled to their eye-glass store to shop for new glasses. Finding nothing I was crazy about, I initially decided to just get the lenses replaces in my existing frames (both regular glasses and sunglasses). After going through all the steps I was given the total for just new lenses and nearly choked! For what they were quoting me, I was able to get 2 new complete pairs of glasses (frames, and lenses for regular designer glasses and sunglasses) for the same price at my regular eye glasses place! The staff at the Insight Optometry Group are amazing! They're very accommodating and friendly. Any time I've made an appointment, they've always called to confirm and if there's been a cancellation they're usually able can sneak me in early. When I go to get my eyes check, there is very little wait time in the waiting room. (They also have a Keurig coffee machine. BONUS!) The offices and equipment are very clean. My most recent visit was brought on by my own carelessness. (Who would have thought that sitting on your glasses could break them?) I took my beloved, 12 year old glasses to see if they could be fixed. One arm broke completely off and the other was a little wonky. Luckily the lenses were fine. Unfortunately they were irreparable. I was shown a few frames, all were wonderful but out of my price range even with the Blue Cross coverage. (I'm also a student) The staff member who was helping me disappeared for a few minutes. She came back with two pairs of glasses. Long story short, I'd ended up getting my lenses put into a pair of donated frames. They were in mint condition and I only had to pay to get my lenses cut to fit. It cost me $20!! If it were possible to give these guys 6 stars, I would! read more

There's an instantaneous air of professionalism and competence when you enter Insight Optometry Group. Greeted by one of the office staff, you are directed to either the front waiting room or the second waiting room tucked into the back of the clinic. Staff are universally friendly and helpful - their knowledge of insurance issues is a great help if you need to navigate your health plan. I started with Insight Optometry a few years ago after I'd had a unsatisfactory experience with another optometrist in Halifax. Insight Optometry has been good to my family and me over the years; urgent appointments (scratched corneas anyone?) are accommodated without exception. I've never had to wait more than a couple of hours to be seen on an urgent basis. Optometry is one area where I don't scrimp. My son was followed by the IWK Opthamology Clinic for several years and now that he's "graduated", I want to make sure we continue to take good care of his eyes. The staff and doctors at Insight Optometry Group give me a sense of confidence that cannot be overstated. I highly recommend Insight Optometry Clinic. read more

Insight Optometry, I love you so. Dr. Gray has been my eye doctor for 22-ish years. He is simply fabulous. I love when a health care practioner goes above and beyond the call of duty. He is always up on the newest trends (in eye health, not raybans, although Im sure they have raybans too) and he provides a high level of care. Having held off on an eye exam for a few years, I decided upon moving to Halifax to look for an Optometrist. Insight stood out immediately in terms of both location and hours. The staff have been incredibly helpful and professional (much more so than the optometrist I went through in my hometown), and went through absolutely everything with me to make sure I knew everything about what we were doing. I was taken aback by the cost of the glasses I ended up getting from them, but paying a bunch for glasses is hardly the worst thing in the world (I've spent more on less worthwhile things). I have never been treated better than I have at insight. Their support staff are the kindest human beings I have ever met. I emailed 3 different optometry places for an appointment. It was my first time ever going to an eye doctor. Insight messaged me within the hour and the other places didn't. Olivia was super helpful and answered all of my questions and even got me in the next day. Going to my appointment, I have got to say I was terrified. In the back of my head I knew I would need glasses, but I was too scared to admit it. I was created by multiple people behind the desk and given a form to fill out and they helped me with questions I wasn't sure of and within seconds of being done, I was being whisked away to do testing by an assistant and I truly wish I got her name because she was phenomenal. Dr Roach was in to see me almost immediately and even though the office was so busy, she made me feel like the most important person ever. I ended up crying because needing glasses at my first eye appointment seemed intense and Dr Roach didn't make me seem dramatic - even though I probably was at the moment. She literally spent ten minutes with me comparing 'lenses' to find the perfect fit. Some seemed equal but she was determined to find the best and perfect prescription so we continued. She gave me my prescription and doctors note and didn't pressure me to purchase glasses there but I decided to because I wanted it over with. She brought me to a lady to helped me pick my glasses and made sure I loved them before she let me purchase them. They direct billed and it took ONE DAY for my glasses to come to come in. Literally ONE. DAY. I can not recommend this optometry office enough. My experience was beyond amazing and I will definitely be telling everyone about the phenomenal service. I wish I could give each individual five stars and then there would probably be 30! read more

Love Insight, always make me feel well taken care of. I've got eye issues and they have been carefully following me to make sure if something changes they will be able to get on top of it right away. Lost some of my contacts and they ordered in replacements at no charge. While the eye glasses store they have is expensive, I have such a terrible prescription it's always super expensive no matter where I go, so I like to support them. Plus, I found a pair of frames I liked elsewhere and they had them ordered in. Just nice people, nice environment. Feels like you're in good hands when you're there. read more

A screw holding my lense fell out of my glasses two days before I was supposed to leave Halifax, and of course it was a weekend and optometry offices in downtown Halifax were closed. Insight Optometry opens at 8 am on Mondays which is earlier than most other offices and is located conveniently on Brunswick St. I was able to get my glasses fixed quickly and they didn't charge me anything which was very sweet of them. read more

If you are easily impressed by fancy and useless 3D visuals of your eyes, being deceived into purchasing things which you did not request and being lied to, this is the optometrist for you. I'm sure you'll like the "free" coffee. I had heard good things about Dr. Gray and his practice, and since my optometrist retired, I need a new one. When I called to request an appointment, I was told that there would be a 4 week wait. Fine, excellent professionals are worth waiting for. The receptionist told me that their fee is significantly larger than other offices ($137 more than twice the going rate), but assured me that it would cover (1) eye exam to determine new prescription and (2) contact lens prescription. Fast forward 4 weeks to my appointment day. I am greeted by an assistant and ushered into a room where I am TOLD - NOT ASKED - that she - NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL - would take a 3D scan of my eyes. If such diagnostics are warranted, they are done at the request of an ophtamologist at a hospital, where they have the expertise to treat serious eye diseases/problems. Any optometrist worth his salt can examine your eyes and based on that visual examination, determine if you do indeed need further investigation. After this wholly un-necessary and unapproved scan, I presumed that I would be seeing Dr. Gray in short order. But of course that did not prove to be true. Next, this assistant hooked me up to a automatic machine to mechanically determine my new prescription. Next, again, the assistant - an unlicensed and unqualified nobody - put up the letter chart and asked me to read the letters. When I asked if Dr. Gray was coming, I was told dismissively that "I'm just helping him out today". Out of the 40 minutes I was there, I saw Dr. Gray for all of 5 MINUTES while he reviewed the machine results. And may I add that most of those minutes were spent on small talk on not on my eye health. Licensed optometrists are supposed to administer eye exams; that's what people pay for. They don't pay more than twice the Halifax market rate to be seen by someone with ZERO QUALIFICATIONS who looks like she just graduated high school. If I could rate this ZERO stars I would. I have NEVER been treated so poorly in a medical office in my entire life. Quite frankly, I am looking into filing a complaint with the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists or whoever is the licensing body for optometrists. read more

I have been going to Dr. Paul Gray at Insight since they opened and even before that. Dr. Gray is a knowledgeable, helpful, trustworthy professional as well as just a plain nice person. He has taken me successfully from glasses to contacts to Lasik and now as I get older to reading glasses. Every step of the way I had complete faith and trust in his ability to give me the best vision and eye health-care - to recommend and do what is best for me. And that is exactly what I got. On occasions I had what I thought were emergencies and wanted to get in for a quick check. Here's one of the areas where Insight shines. If he was not available, one of the other doctors fit me in. Over the many years, I've met and seen most if not all of them. They too are outstanding. From making an appointment, checking in, seeing a doctor, getting a fitting for glasses (or sunglasses) - everyone on staff - are professional and treat you the way "we" as clients like to be treated. They make you feel important. They value your time. I buy all my glasses and sunglasses here. They selection is endless, the quality exceptional, the fitting done until you are 100% happy, the service/warranty thereafter second to none. I've been seeing Dr. Davis for as long as he has been there and I've always been completely satisfied with his care and with the glasses he prescribed and with the frames I purchased there. Be aware, however, that parking there for 5 doctors in a busy clinic and a booming eyewear area is limited to four reserved spaces. When the clinic is busy you won't find a space there or anywhere around RA Park so if a long walk is not for you, don't go. read more

We were on a cruise when the lens popped out of my glasses and it turned out to be the wire that held the lens in place on my frame had snapped. OMG...I need my glasses. The next day we docked in Halifax and went to find an optometrist. We googled for one and Insight was very close to our must see, The Halifax Public Garden so off we went. I explained what happened and they set me up with a repair right away and it was done in 5 minutes tops.......and there was no charge! Wow! Insight Optometry and Dr. Gray have been my choice for Eye Health for 20 plus years. Dr. Gray has been critical, not only in providing exceptional service for regular checkups and examinations but, he has monitored my eye health to a level I would have considered beyond the norm until becoming a patient at Insight Optometry. Dr. Gray's examinations are thorough and I cannot thank him enough for the professionalism he demonstrates at every meeting. A serious injury to my eye 10 years ago could have left me with a significant loss of sight and did exactly that for a short period of time. It was a very scary time. Dr. Gray (and a Specialist he referred me to) ensured the injury was detected early and provided the care necessary so that today I have no loss of sight or concern for my eye. Dr. Gray continues to monitor and care for my Eye Health. I cannot recommend Dr. Gray and his Staff highly enough. Today, my wife and family (two teenage boys) are under the care of Dr. Gray and Insight Optometry's family of Physicians and Staff. With active life styles and fitness being a significant part of our lives, Dr. Gray and Insight Optometry are able to provide the support our family has come to rely on. Insight Optometry is a comprehensive one stop shop where we have come to rely on Dr. Gray and his staff for examinations, on going care / support and of course new glasses. Their support after the sale goes above and beyond with cleaning, repairs and support for our often extreme requirements and is really appreciated. Fitting glasses in tight fitting helmets and under OTG goggles (Off road racing, sports car racing and other pursuits) has pushed his Staff and yet they always come up with the glasses we need. I have been in the office more than once with a helmet under my arm and the Staff providing me with the glasses i need. Our family relies on the care and support we receive from Dr. Gray and Insight Optometry. Growing Health Care expenses are always a concern for our family but, we feel the service we receive is far and away superior to similar providers in Halifax. Yes, we pay more for an eye exam than might be the case elsewhere but at the same time we are cared for by a sincere and professional group of eye health care providers. We have considered other options but, come back to Insight and Dr. Gray every time. His care, the service provided by the group and support provided by the entire eye care team are second to none. My eyes are worth it! In this day and age where people leave jobs for all kinds of reasons, I think it is truly a positive statement when year after year you see the same professionals and courteous staff on every visit. The Staff truly enjoy their work and that can be seen in how they present themselves and how they greet their patients. It is a family atmosphere at Insight Optometry and I appreciate the consistently high level of family friendly service. They find time for my busy family and never leave us wanting for appointments that meet our busy schedules. Dr. Gray lives the Maritime tradition with every visit catching up on family and events at every appointment. His personal approach and sincere manner are appreciated. I agree that the staff are professional and pleasant. And you will be dazzled by the office space. BUT - I have been going to Dr D for many years and I have decided that I will be changing doctors for my next appointment. The above-everyone-else costs and the testing and the extras suggested (how am I to know what's needed? None of my same-age friends have these field tests, glaucoma testing, etc etc done regularly) The straw that broke the camel's back was calling today for an appointment (in 7 weeks). I called on my day off work which I like to do so that I may speak freely and unrushed when calling a health professional for an appointment - but left two messages (11am and 4pm) and was told that Dr D's assistant was busy and would call me back "tomorrow" - while I am at work. Obviously I am not an important patient and my time is not valued. How much time does it take to book an appointment??? Not impressed. I have always been concerned about the high prices charged - this was just the push I needed to to find a smaller, more caring office with reasonable costs covered by my insurance plan. read more
