I began accesssing this clinic in early Dec/24 for a 2nd opinion and new glasses. I have always been welcomed, seen and helped by each of the very patient, kind, experienced, efficient and excellent staff. Radhika - the cheery and efficient Optometrist/Supervisor who is very present as needed by staff and clients and puts one at ease. Nilha is a former Optometrist and is stuying to be licenced here which is very commendable. She was very efficient and made the process seamless. She helped me choose my first pair of glasses. Payton helped me pick out my 2nd and 3rd pairs - regular eye glasses and sunglasses and did some adjusting on the 1st pair. She was very caring and thorough. Katie saw me a few times and did the fitting for my sunglasses. She also informed me well on RXs as well as how the 3 for 1 glasses plan works. I ended up not keeping the 1st pair and only because my challenging and unique bridge of my nose did not make it a good fit. Each frame was beautiful. I am now aware of when I can return for my next assessment and 3rd pair. I met Sam on my last visit. He is a new, a proud and keen receptionist. Sam greeted me with a smile and a quiet, confident presence as he listened to me. I sensed that he was a good fit for the team and that he would continue to do well. Two more things which I feel it is important to mention. I noticed that when I'd call for appts and asked when it would work for the staff, the answer would be the same, eg; any time after 1100 or I could also drop in whenever. I also asked about breaks as I feel that all staff need breaks and I am retired with lots of flexibility time wise. :) I also saw a close team who worked together to give one of the Staff a chance to stay at home with her sick child. That really touched me as it took me back, many years, to when I was raising 2 little ones on my own and had to put them in daycare at young ages. It is well known that young children, no matter where they go, tend to get sick a lot. Even when parents have support, there are still times when they need to stay home. It can be a huge and difficult decision to make because we are pulled in two different directions and care about both. Not all places have sick benefits. I told the staff I was fine with it, as well, as my visit wasn't urgent. I was very relieved when she decided to stay home. I wish all workplaces could be as user friendly when it comes to staff as I witnessed that day. It really makes a huge difference. So, in a nutshell and from a holistic point of view, I highly recommend this clinic. Thank you all so much. I have been a customer to Dr. Freddie Chow for over 30 years. All seem to be going well except the last few visits. First ordered glasses that were defective and try to sort out the issues and Dr. Chow said it was my eyes because I'm getting old. Shortly after that got new glasses because broke the old ones and the problem was corrected with the new lenses that he declined to take responsibility for because of that improper making of the lenses. Now I have a virtual field test that is two hours away and a defective machine as far as my opinion is concerned wanted to use the Halifax location and said that the machines are different doesn't make sense to me I would not recommend using these guys because they don't assume any responsibility for their incompetence in their equipment very disappointed with Dr. Chow and would not recommend anyone to trust your eyes with someone that you can't trust. Very disappointed and will be telling everybody I can't to stay away from any of the eyes location. Also the glasses they wanted to sell me for $800. I got the same glasses same lenses same everything for $450 at Costco. read more

This was my first and will be my last visit to this business. The whole experience was awful. The store staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. She processed my payment through insurance then informed me it could take anywhere from 2 to 12 weeks. About six weeks later I ended up receiving glasses where the lens were literally falling out of the frames. read more

I had my eye exam on March 21st . The appointment took more than 1.5 hours during which time I had to personally call my insurance company to figure out why my claim would not process only to find out it had in fact been entered wrong, after being told several times that it was not by the lady who entered it. so fast forward to TODAY , which is week number 9 !! YES week nine and I have NOT received my glasses . The interactions I have had when calling to enquire in the whereabouts of my glasses has been less than acceptable . I have gotten basically brushed off and was told on Friday 12 weeks ???? This makes zero sense to me. I wouldnt have to wait for more than 2 weeks anywhere else in this city . As I have gotten glasses before but thought I would try somewhere new but that was a mistake . Twice I have requested a call back from the manager and have yet to even get that . The customer care from this establishment is non existent. I do not recommend , I spent $500 for 2 pairs of glasses and being treated this way is unbelievable . When I called on Friday I was told they couldn't find me in the system by my name or phone number and this wasted 20 minutes of my time as the employee was making excuses and said she just didn't know how to find me and that maybe I had been to a different location .!!! read more

Wish I had read the reviews before booking with this place. When booking the receptionist I mentioned to the receptionist that I was a diabetic and would be needed the exam MSI (gov health insurance) paid for. There was an issue with the computer and she had to call me back. When I was called back, they asked for credit card number and I said I was getting the MSI test. They apologized and did booking. During the exam, Dr. Chow informed me that I had to take a test MSI did not pay for. The receptionist did not mention the need for the test and I was not expecting. Dr.Chow did NOT explain why the test was necessary, "this is just what we do with our diabetic patients" he said. I was not given an option to refuse the test or to leave, he simply proceeded without expressed consent. Nice way to avoid the "No means No" mantra. I got stuck having to pay $50 on my credit I didn't expect or budget for. Dr.Chow needs to take a course on "bedside manner". He is very abrupt, cut me off twice as I tried to provide information to answer his question. I was cut off so he could say he had done this for 20 years so he knew. No way I knew that. He could have let me finish before cutting me off. At the end of the exam, Dr.Chow unloaded a ton of information, wrote nothing down, did not give me a report with the information included so I could take away and think. My eyes were blurry thanks to the drops he gave, which burn terribly. As I am reeling from the information he unloaded, with burned and blurry eyes he leads me to the guy who sells the glasses. I had not intended to buy any glasses (I haven't had in 15 years) and simply being deposited with no time to think or consider options was appalling. Chow just wants the sale. The guy who sells glasses was nice but we were interrupted twice so he couldn't even give me core information on prices, etc. I walked out. Forgot my headphones so the poor Uber driver had to listen to "Sucker" by Jonas Brothers all the way home. Although, "Sucker" is an apt description for what I felt. Nice that the staff are wearing masks etc.i got my exam Aug 31st...my glasses came in October 2nd, needed adjusting...Oct 3rd needed adjusting, Oct 9 needed adjusting, Oct 17 needed adjusting at which time they discovered the arms were too short and the reason they didn't fit properly.. I called October 19 to make appt to get glasses returned they told me it would cost me another $99 to do so cause of COVID, it was my not my fault...they didn't measure properly!!!!!!! read more

My first complaint would be with the receptionist when I called to book an eye exam. The first with this company. She answered the phone "eyes on lacewood..." to which I responded with "yes hi, I would like to book an eye exam" long drawn out pause, "well can I get your name!?" I said "sorry, you didn't respond I thought you were maybe checking availability". I gave my contact info and was booked an appointment for the next day. Before excepting the appointment I asked if they did direct billing, the resptionest said they do for some companies like blue cross, I asked if I told her the name of my insurance company would she be able to let me know if they were part of the direct billing, she said seemingly annoyed, I'll check. Gave insurance company name she says, "yeah they do but sometimes its not accepted so you'll have to pay in advance and get reimbursed." To which I thought to myself, well that's not direct billing. Wanting to go ahead with the booking for the next day I asked if I could accept the appointment but should I need to cancel tomorrow as I worked, could I call first thing the next morning to let them know as I would be working and need to ask for the time off. I was told I could but would have to pay a same day cancelation fee. I took my chances with work and booked the appointment anyway. Skip now to the day of the appointment, I rush there from work and took a wrong turn. I walk in to the front door and am greeted with "hi do you have an appointment?" I said "yes, I'm sorry I am 5 minutes late I took a wrong turn, my appointment was for 2:20." The two receptionist whisper something and the one that "greated" says "sorry, you're going to have to re book" right away I am taken aback, I respond with "are you serious" no response "are you kidding!? "She just stares at me... again I say "really you are going to make me reschedule this appointment over 5 minutes?" She replied with" sorry I don't make the rules." I asked her who did, and that I would like to speak to them as I couldn't believe there was absolutely to wiggle room for an appointment. The doctor obviously wasn't with anyone as he was supposed to be with me, he should be free and available to discuss the matter"Again she just stares. At this point I am beyond frustrated. I let them know that I had based this booking on the good reviews and customer service they provided. I also mentioned that I asked the day before if I could cancel first thing in the morning, I left work and rushed to get there. Made a wrong turn and was LITERALLY 5 minutes late. A man came out and stated that if I was seen today after being 5 minutes late I would make the next person 5 minutes late. I am very curious, is there NO time between patients? Are they really booked back to back? Again I was told to rebook, I angrily told them I absolutely would not be back to rebook and left. It is not lost on me that everyone's time is important, believe me I get it. And that my 5 minutes isn't more important than yours. But please tell me that I am not wrong for thinking a company would have just a little bit of leeway when booking a client/patient. Human error happens, things happen. Should I have been seen after 5 minutes, I think so. 10,15 20 minutes no I understand. Anything could have happened...every red light, un known road construction, traffic rerouted. They couldn't give me 5 minutes, I will not be giving them any of my time! read more

Horrible, don't go! They refused to fixed my husband's glasses and he can't see. The excuse" its in the file" thars an excuse for incompetence! If you have any issues outside of the ordinary ,then can't handle it. They think more of themselves than the patient. Will NEVER go there again! It has now been 8 weeks, and I STILL don't have my glasses from Eyes on Lacewood. I ordered transitions, but apparently they came back from the lab TWICE with no transition coating. So that is twice they made the exact same mistake! I don't know who is to blame, the lab, or the store for not making it clear to the lab, but now I need to wait even longer. Who knows when I will get the glasses I ordered on July 23rd. Not happy, I just want my glasses now. read more

My wife has been a customer for 15 years. She just spent $500 on new glasses and prescription and wanted the contacts with same prescription. They were supposed to be ordered and arrive before Christmas. They left a message saying we owed $125 as part of the claim that came back. When we arrived the week before Christmas to pay the balance they informed us they did not order the contacts until the balance was paid. The optician/manager argued with me to tell me they could not contact us, when they did leave a message of the balance owing but no mention of contact order being put on hold. My wife has no contacts over the holidays and there was not any apology from Dr.Julie Maillet or her office for the inconvenience, or even an offer to assist to make right. We asked for the prescriptions as we had to leave and take our business elsewhere. When asked for the contact prescription/brand I was told that legally they are not able to provide that information even though we paid for the fitting. I contacted the NS Association of Optometrists who informed me optometrists have to provide contact lens specifications such as manufacturer, lens, type, materials and other lens parameters such as expiration date. After 3 phone calls withI have asked to speak with Dr. Maillet and cannot get by the optician/manager as they seem to want to shut me down without resolving the issue any further. So we are off to another Optician and will pay another fitting fee for contacts based on principle. This is my first Yelp review ever written and don't suspect to have to write another as any other business that is run like this would have gone bankrupt by now. I would drive to Sydney or Yarmouth before giving Eyes on Lacewood or any affiliates my business again. It is quite unfortunate that a person and/or business owner (as it seems the owners are not accessible) would go through such lengths to be able to prove themselves right at all expenses instead of trying to work on customer service resolution...So the lesson here is avoid Eyes on Lacewood and related businesses, and spend your hard earned money on people and businesses that want to help and take care of the customer. read more

Excellent choice of fames with good suggestions from your staff, far exceeds other optical facilities such as Sears for a sample. I was given a few options for my actual prescription, saving some dollars, even with my high definition lenses, feels great. Extremely bad service, recently. My husband and I have been going there for years and were fairly satisfied. However, for the past two years, service has grossly degraded, and in particular in the past few weeks. My husband (90 years old) had three eye surgeries that left him with a vision different than the one he had when he was prescribed the glasses he was wearing then. Following his third eye surgery, he had an eye exam in July 2020, was prescribed new lenses to fit his new vision, and... 13 weeks later -- YES, THIRTEEN WEEKS -- we still do not have the glasses with the new prescribed lenses. The poor man is unable to read or watch TV, which at his age is about the only things he is able to do. I have been bombarding Eyes on Optometry (Lacewood location) with queries, I eventually (late October 2020) asked for my old frame back and a reimbursement of the lenses, which I had paid in full in July. Each time I called or emailed the "support" team, I received either no reply, or a promise that the frame would be in "tomorrow"... but, like in the song, "tomorrow never comes". After more than thirteen (13) weeks, I finally got my own frame back, untouched of course (for 13 weeks, it was just sitting on one of their shelves...!!!)... and I am now waiting for a reimbursement check for the new lenses I never received. And of course, we are back to square one with the new prescription glasses which my husband desperately needs... More than thirteen weeks totally wasted... Needless to say, we will take our business elsewhere from now on. read more

Beware of this outfit. They did a fine job with my eye exam, but my experience with ordering new glasses was a nightmare. Both pairs of glasses (regular and prescription sunglasses) came back defective, with the lenses not fitting into the frames properly. The optician could even put her fingernail into the space between the lens and the frames. They re-did them, better this time but still not fitting snugly. I decided to live with the eye glasses, but the sunglasses were still way off. They then re-did the sunglasses a third time where the lenses did fit properly, but they were not tinted properly. After that, they refused to assist any further and I was stuck with a defective product. Dr. Chow did not reply to my emails, and the store staff said their hands were tied. Terrible quality finished products, and they are not committed to customer satisfaction. I will be going elsewhere next time, I just threw away $350. read more

Avoid 'Eyes On Optometry Group' / Eyes On Lacewood eyesonoptometrygroup.com The company and their staff are deceptive, unethical, unprofessional, incompetent, and offers inferior product[s] and eyeglass lens technology at their 'local lab' [which by all accounts is staffed by one technician person that they refer to as "he" servicing the entire Halifax / Dartmouth market with six locations The company is also NOT accredited or registered with BBB [Better Business Bureau] I ordered Eyeglasses in November 2017 from their dark / dimly lit Lacewood location, and waited three weeks, when I got the glasses home, I later noticed that there were defects in the lens AR / UV 'anti glare' and 'scratch resistant' coatings referred to as 'crazing' holes and scratches caused by improper lab manufacturing procedures, processes, and quality control. I brought the eyeglasses back in to their Lacewood location, the staff there seemed to not believe or acknowledge and denied that anything was wrong with the eyeglass lenses and placed blame on me the customer [accusing me of cleaning the lenses with improper solutions or leaving them in heat] After insistance they agreed to send them back to the lab to be "redone" with new lenses under warranty, waited another three weeks and get the glasses back again in late December, this time they are in worse condition than before, again sales staff deny anything wrong, and I demanded to speak to a manager or owner and told nobody is available until after holidays finally meet with a manager at their main location in early January 2018 to show defects in eyeglass lenses, again the manager denies and can NOT see anything wrong with the lenses until they are shown the defects with under an ultra violet light, and finally agree there is in fact something wrong, again the lenses were sent back to their 'local lab' to be 'redone under warranty'; this time it took four weeks waiting time until I finally called them asking what was happening with my eyeglasses; they called back a day later and said the glasses were ready. Again went back to their main Mumford location in early February, and again there were defects in the eyeglass lens coatings and told there can be no more repair work done under warranty or refunds given. in addition to all of this denial, frustration, inconvenience, unprofessionalism and incompetence, long wait times, the sales staff did NOT offer a 'buy one get second pair FREE' deal as advertised on their website, and the lab technician or somebody else within the company damaged the plastic on the frames. I also do NOT believe in any of the redo / repair cases did this this companies' lab technician ever use 'NEW' lenses; but rather removed the defective coatings and just reapplied 'NEW' coatings Avoid this unprofessional SCAM company and go to COSTCO, or WALMART, they send their glasses to labs in Toronto where there are qualified technicians, wait times are not as long, and customer service is much better...Eyes On Optometry Group sucks! total S H I T Show filing a complaint with BBB [Better Business Bureau] read more

Was charged a $25 fee for missing an appt because my daughter was sick. Frustrating, but understandable. Couldn't afford the fee at the time so had to reschedule again. Then I get a voicemail a day before our rescheduled appt that if I didn't pay $50 over the phone my daughter's appt would be cancelled. I didn't have the $25 the last time and they think that I'm going to be able to stomach $50 any better? Complete lack of empathy or understanding for the hardships people are going through right now. The girl I spoke to basically said she didn't agree with the fee but couldn't do anything about it because it's the owners decision. And the cost of the appt isn't the issue, we have coverage. Charging arbitrary fees that they wait until the last second to tell you about is a pretty crap way to treat your customers. Had great service here last year, so pretty disgusted to have been treated this way when things are already tough. read more

In response to your argument of "We were seeking for a free eye exam" 1. Don't try to defend yourself by accusing me of seeking a free eye exam. Asked yourself the question had I ever asked you to perform a free eye exam on the night we went in to see you? The answer is NO. Indeed, I told you clearly that I was not happy because the time we wasted for an appointment that was not necessary at the first place. And also because your staff member at Mumford location had never apologized to me for an appointment that was "mistakenly" booked at the first place. Instead they kept nagging me by telling me that it was written on my file eye exams for every second year. I had never seen my file in the past, how did I know. Wasn't your staff at Lacewood location supposed to check the note before she went ahead to book us in? 2. Moreover, I told you clearly on that appointment night that if it is deemed necessary by you, even the exam is not covered by MSI or our insurance, I will pay the exam out from my own pocket. Don't look at your patrons as if they are poor and cannot afford to seeing you without MSI coverage or insurance. We, the patrons are the people who pay for your business's survival. The night when I spoke to you, all you tried to do is defending your staff by keeping saying everyone makes mistakes. I already told you that that's not an acceptable excuse. You are in a business that you should know better than your patrons. I see that night, all you have to say is that I will talk to my staff, make sure this type of things will not happen again. Problem could have been resolved right there. Indeed, you kept telling me that everyone makes mistakes. 3. Did your staff at Mumford location tell you that when your staff kept telling me that an eye exam is only required every second year, at which time I was going to leave without seeing you but your staff would NOT let me go. Why? I think it's all about money. Me leaving means no money for your appointment time, which had confirmed multiple times by you when you told me that it was wasting your time. Your focus was money not customer satisfaction. A simple statement like I will talk to my staff to make sure this type of mistakes would not happen again can end the problem right there. Instead, you went on and on insisting everyone makes mistakes. Conclusion: please stop treating your patrons as if they are poor and coming in to seek a free eye exam from you. Instead, please focus on your customer service. In response to your argument of "verbal abuse" 1. Did I use the F word? - NO; did I use the sh word? - NO; did I use the SOB word? - NO. Which of your eyes heard that I used curse words towards your female staff? Actually, you were not at the scene when I had the discussions with your front desk staff. On the contrary, you started blaming me for not respectful to your staff as soon as I got the chance to talk to you. You never asked my side of the story but you were automatically in favour of your employees' side of the story. You may be a good boss to your employees, but don't' forget it is the patrons who pay for your employees' as well as your business's survival; 2. Don't try to defend yourself by blaming me verbal abuse. No, I didn't. I was not happy and I was frustrated that night but I did not verbally abused anyone. Indeed, it was your staff tried to get us to pay for an exam that was NOT required for any reasons. She asked my insurance was federal or provincial and kept telling me that she wouldn't know whether we are covered or not until she put through the claim. I made the request for her to call the staff at Lacewood location who booked the appointment for us at the very first place, which your staff at Mumford location refused. Indeed, I was so frustrated that I was going to leave before we saw you but your staff at Mumford location would NOT let us go. Why? see reasons stated above. Conclusion: while I am writing this. it just reminds me of what Blue Cross had done to Ms. Huculak-Kimmel. Each individual customer like me and Ms. Huculak-Kimmel should use the social media to review the service we received. As an individual, we may not be able to change anything but as a group of individuals, we can do something. For anyone out there, if you feel the same way as I do, please spread the word around and tell people you know. I have been a customer of the Lacewood location for over 10 years. I was late by 10 minutes for my last appointment and was abruptly told by reception that I was late and would have to rebook. I came all the way from the valley and was angered by that reaction. I was the only patient in the store and surely they could of accomadated me. How many times was I asked to sit and wait for as the optometrist was off schedule? You would think that with all the optometry places in the city Eyes on Lacewood would be more flexible. Today I had the very unfortunate pleasure to meet with the dr Julie A. Maillet. While I was In the exam room, my 8 years old daughter was quietly sitting on the chair of that room by the door, not saying a word she was doing her own thing and stood up a couple times . still being REALLY quick, NOT EVEN PRONOUNCED A SOUND. Julie A. Maillet was looking at me and asking questions when she promptly stopped, looked at my daughter and with an extremely rude and annoyed tone ordered to my daughter to sit down so she could concentrate on me... I was speechless, the kid wasn't even being annoying or loud...Like I said she wasn't even saying a word, always stayed by that chair. needless to say Julie A. Maillet wasn't doing an open heart surgery as she was only asked how long do I rub my contact lenses before i put them in.. I pointed out it was really rude and that I was really surprised of this over reaction as my daughter was so quiet. She did apologize to my girl but wouldn't really have done it if it wasn't of me pointing it out. She clearly said that this how she is, straight forward. I asked her if it was a bad day?? she said no.. and later on recommended I see someone else when I come back If I want. Well thanks, There is really no chances I will see you again as I have 3 kids, I had the oldest with me today and you made her feel so miserable and uncomfortable with your lack of professionalism toward her. If my kid was causing problem I would have been the first one to sit her down, but really where was the problem today? It broke my heart to see my so quiet daughter being told like this for no reason. the awkward moment was palpable. After several weeks and frustrating encounters with no luck in finding a pair of glasses that looked good, I found myself at Eyes on Lacewood where I was greeted with a smile and welcomed into the glasses area, I explained that I have been searching forever and that I hated glasses so this was basically a lost cause, the girl who was helping me, Melodie, said that everyone looks good in glasses and guaranteed me that I would walk away with my head high and a "strut, like when you get an awesome pair of pumps". She quickly found several good options for me, and she was right, I picked them up recently and I have never gotten so many compliments, she referred to them as an accessory and now I see why, I got 2 pairs but I may be back sooner than expected. I LOVE my new glasses and I am so thankful for the professional, knowledgeable and welcoming staff, I may still be walking around without seeing properly if I hadn't visited Eyes on lacewood. read more

Bad experience as well, they have change over in staff always, and would not allow me to get a follow up appointment because i owed them money for eye glasses I wasn't able to afford yet and i had surgery and after telling them my eyes were failing they said i wouldn't be seen back in clinic unless i paid for the glasses first. Seems their interest in their patients eyes come last, no consideration of the persons health. read more

I have gone to Eyes on Lacewood for my bi-yearly exam for a long time. But,after my last experience, I will never return! Dr. Freddie Chow was extremely rude to me. He did not come across as a nice person at all. He asked me why I don't purchase my glasses or contacts through their company and when I explained that I had a family member that worked at Vogue Optical, so I get a family discount...He told me to go there for my exams too- in an extremely rude manner- as if to say I wasn't welcome there if I didn't purchase my eye wear there. He also kept telling me to stay still in my chair and not move my face...and not being a child, I felt very offended by this. especially when he would leave the extremely bright light shining in my eyeball while he went to his desk to take notes. (But, god for bid I move!) He then clamped my eyelid with a clamp (without warning) and when I moved because I thought he had done something wrong and it scared me...he got mad! I told him it felt uncomfortable and I wasn't expecting it and he responded with "its an eye exam, its not supposed to be comfortable". Anyways... It was a very unpleasant experience. The ladies were nice though. I did also feel like the wait time was extremely unreasonable considering it is booked by appointment and I didn't even see the Doctor until 45 minutes later. Thanks for the advice Doctor Chow... I will definitely be going to Vogue Optical as you had suggested. I NEVER write bad reviews. But I was boiling my entire half hour drive home and for the remainder of the night. I feel as if people need to prepare themselves for his behavior. read more
