My children have been going to Dental Derby since we moved here. The care is phenomenal. Caring,…read morecompetent, and compassionate. Dr. Cangas is a veteran that understands the unique situation our community faces. It is obvious he takes pride in his profession. My son knocked his tooth out on a Friday night. Dr. Cangas came in at nearly midnight on a Friday night to take care of my son. The only thing he said was "Come to the office I will be there in 15 minutes." He did it with a smile and took care of my son during a very traumatic experience. Even called the next day to make sure he was doing well. It is humbling to know that there are people like this that are willing to take such good care of my family. My highest recommendation.

Dr. Cangas has a military backyard, highly educated and experienced; with that he was very patient, informative and friendly. Their location is convenient if you live in Moore County, located near the Olive Garden. Walking in, the office is themed with all things horse racing; a bright, cheery atmosphere and you literally can't miss the horse in the next room greeting your little ones as they come in for their visit. While waiting they can watch a movie, show or play a video game. This is definitely a family and child friendly establishment. At the end of the appointment, a nice touch Dental Derby has added is a reward system for your child if they have done well and have been following best practices for oral health. Little ones earn Derby Dollars, a neat way to reward them for keeping their teeth clean every time they come for a visit. If you have a special needs child, I highly recommend bringing them here as well, their experience will put a parent at ease, just be sure to let them know ahead of time. Also, a tip, if you want to save time, you are able to print new patient paperwork at home and fill it out there rather than do it in the office, saving you from be distracted and held up.

BEWARE OF OVER-DIAGNOSIS - RECOMMEND SEEKING SECOND OPINION…read more For context - I am a dentist. I don't see my own children, because I work on post and only see Soldiers. My son was referred to this practice from a general dentist in our area due to some very minor cavities that were questionable, and one cavity that definitely needed a filling. When my son arrived at the pediatric practice, the only type of x-ray taken was a pano (the type that goes around your whole head) which anyone who works in dentistry knows - SHOULD NOT BE USED SOLELY TO DIAGNOSE CAVITIES. For that, bitewing x-rays need to be taken. This was not even offered to my wife when she took him there (when I called and spoke with Dr. V, he said that he didn't even offer to take them because "everyone says no.") We certainly would have said yes. Based on the referral from the other dentist that said "evaluate patient's molars and treat as needed." Dr. V took it upon himself to look at the Pano and from a non-diagnostic tool, diagnosed EIGHT STAINLESS STEEL CROWNS on all of my son's posterior teeth!! My wife called me and said this is what my son needed - to which I replied no he absolutely does not (as I had already seen the X-rays from the other dentist with very minor cavities.) My wife did not tell Dr. V or his staff that I am a dentist. Thank goodness that I am - as I realized how bogus this treatment plan was. We took my son to another local pediatric dentist, who did a full work up, including the proper type of radiographs and simply recommended a couple of small fillings! Confirming that the original treatment plan offered by this other guy was a gross example of over-diagnosis. I called and left a message for Dr. V to give me a call, and when he did he called me arrogant and defensive for taking the position of this being over diagnosis. I simply wanted to point out to him, that as a fellow dentist, I would recommend that in the future - he take his own radiographs to form a proper diagnosis and not simply go off of a referral and a non-diagnostic Pano. He repeatedly asked me if I was a "pediatric dentist" as if that is a requirement in order to recognize cavities in primary (baby) teeth. I promise, I'm not the type of person to leave a review online unless I truly feel like the public needs to know something. Please consider seeking a second opinion if anything seems fishy with your child's treatment plan.

You research backgrounds, read reviews, ask friends and neighbors for recommendations, compare with everything else available - and then you make a decision. You hope you did your due diligence and made the right choice. Carolinas Dentist is the right choice. State of the art office, with highly trained team members, hygienists, assistants and of course Dentists. My dentist is Dr. Laura Johnson. She is highly qualified, has a very gentle touch and the best bed side manner. She listens to your concerns, remembers what you had discussed previously whether it was about your dental issues or just about your personal life. She has done crowns, filings, and root canals for me. They were all excellent high quality work. The hours are made to accommodate any need. Both my husband and son are also patients here. Highly recommend Carolinas Dentist!
