Carpet in this room was stained and filthy. it was also loose from the floor. Second room was larger, but also worn and tired with equally stained carpet. Outlet on bathroom did work. Toilet flush mechanism barely worked. Restaurant was understaffed so that dinner took nearly 2 1/2 hours to complete. Included breakfast was just OK. this hotel needs a complete renovation to bring it up to Doubletree standards

DoubleTree by Hilton York is one of four Hilton branded properties in the city, this is one of the…read moremost reasonably priced hotels out of the four (even compared to some of the new built Hamptons), with room rates often available for between £50 and £70. The location at Monks Bar is especially good, it is a short walk away from the city centre's shops, restaurants and historic sights. There is also parking right outside the hotel, which can be reserved in advance. It is a fairly small hotel, so there is only limited availability for upgrades, they have three floors in the main building, there is also a building opposite the main hotel with some rooms located. Check-in is usually from 16:00, with check-out at 12:00 but I had no problem with both an early check-in and a late check-out. The best of both worlds! PRO TIP: The "Accessible Rooms" are amongst the best in the hotel, they are much more spacious with some being located on the Ground Floor opposite the main hotel building, I love how quiet they are as there's no lobby/hallway for people to pass meaning they're pretty much noise-free. I have stayed at the hotel on two occasions now and I have been impressed with the comfort of my room it is one of the most homely hotels I have ever stayed in, it has modern features without sacrificing the fact that it is located in an old building in a historic Roman city, the juxtaposing features of the hotel make it a relaxing, comfortable hotel that feels like you are in a home, rather than a hotel. The facilities inside the room were good, while there wasn't a desk, they did have a table, plenty of plug sockets (including two sockets on each side of the bed with USB charging) and a huge, modern TV. I also appreciated how the TV was on a stand, rather than a wall, meaning I could move it closer to the bed and access the HDMI port to connect my fire stick. The staff at the hotel seemed friendly and accomodating to the requests I had, such as late checkout and a fridge, even though they don't keep any in the rooms, they should be able to provide one on request. The double blinds were especially useful and blocked out the light, combined with how quiet the room was, I was able to relax and have a good nights sleep. I was unable to get hot water out of the bathroom tap and the shower's max temperature was not very hot at all, these weren't dealbreakers for me as I was only staying at the hotel for one night. 5* - The hotel offers a very good standard of rooms, service which many hotels even at a premium rate can not match, they deliver all this while also remaining reasonably priced. I look forward to returning when I visit York again.
