Fortunately, the fait accompli was not regrettable. Overall, the staff was friendly, helpful, and caring. The space, though a bit run down, is adequate to the task, at least in the short-stay wing. Communication was generally good and was sometimes exceptional (hello Michelle). One transportation mixup was irritating and nobody apologized, but these things are bound to happen. Quiet, easily accessible, and on a beautiful salt marsh, the Pine Point Center is worth checking out. Nothing fancy, but that's not the point. Our family's experience at Pine Point Center was unacceptable and deeply disturbing…read more There was no hot water for my mother's entire stay - an ongoing problem that the nurses know about. The temperature control in the room was broken, and the facility was kept unbearably hot, often around 79 degrees. The floors were so dirty that I eventually brought in a Swiffer and cleaned them myself because housekeeping was clearly not maintaining the room properly. Response times were frighteningly poor. At one point, my mother's oxygen machine was beeping and malfunctioning, and it reportedly took over an hour for CNA Marly to respond to the call bell. Certain staff members, especially Rose and Marly, consistently displayed dismissive and hostile attitudes toward both patients and family concerns. During a family care meeting, the nurse manager discussed medical details that actually belonged to another patient, which was alarming and raised serious concerns about competence and patient oversight. Meanwhile, my mother developed a bedsore during her stay. Despite repeated concerns from family that her post-op wound had redness around it, the doctor and nurses wrote it off as irritation from tape. However less than 24 hours after discharge, her white blood cell count was alarmingly elevated. Drs at Maine Med believe this was due in part to skin infection around wound and a UTI. She showed an increased need for oxygen during her stay, and developed swelling around the ankles. The PA gave her compression socks, which she wore for a week before I saw her without them, aghast at the size of her ankles and legs. She has congestive heart failure. This kind of swelling is a sign of fluid build up in the body. I had to insist that the nurse get her on lasix to remove fluid. Begrudgingly, Rose finally came, listened to her chest, and called the on-call dr at my intense insistence. They gave her 1 day's worth of lasix, then refused to give her more until the Dr came in. Fast forward to discharge: Less than 24 hours after returning home, we had to call 911. She had to have a procedure in which they removed 1.3 liters/2.5 lbs of fluid on her lung caused from chf. This could have been avoided if they had taken the swelling seriously. Families trust rehabilitation facilities to provide safe, attentive care during vulnerable moments. Our experience brought my mother to Maine Med for 2 weeks and left us horrified by the conditions and level of oversight she experienced. This negligence is inexcusable. This facility should lose their license and be shut down. God bless the souls who endure this treatment. I pray you can receive the care you deserve. Ben, Noah and Buffy were excellent CnAs. Thank God my mother had them looking after her.

Love how we can get so much done on site like haircuts, doctor's appt, podiatrist/foot care, physical therapy, prescriptions, etc. I'm really happy my Dad is living there. He is being well cared for and is working on getting his strength back after some serious health issues. The staff has been very responsive, and Sarah has been great about sharing information/updates. Also, he tells me the food is EXCELLENT.

Our friend was put into The Wood at Canco Retirement Home Portland Me. 3 years ago. Things changed…read moreover the 3 years. What she were told when she went in to The Wood at Canco and what she received over the time she was there was a great big LIE. Lie number 1. She was told she would have a ride to doctor appointments in the company van. Shortly after she got there they lost they driver and never got another one. And from what we seen and heard there never tried to get another driver. Lie number 2. She needed her ears taken care of she couldn't hear, this never got done they told her they had an onsite nurse. Not much help if any from any nurse the whole time she was there. Lie number 3. After time goes by she would be checked on to see if she would have to move to another part of the building for when she would need full care. That meant her would go into hospice care when the time came and she would be allowed to pass there, that never happened. Lie number 4. When she was getting so she could not manage alone anymore they said she need to go some were else for hospice care. She was told she could live out the rest of her life there. That was one of the biggest lies, a very CRUEL thing to do to a person close to the end of there life. The big thing for going there was to live out her life there and not have to have to much change that late in life. Pretty crappy for $7000.00 a month. After some time there the cleaning was lacking, the food started to slip and a big lack of help. When they moved her out they told her they would send the things not needed anymore to Goodwill then they informed her she needed to pay more than $400.00 to have her things removed that was LIE number 5. and Now she is in the City Hospital costing her even more. No person at 100 years old should have to go threw things like these. These places suck your money dry then throw you out like a bag of trash. Lies on top of Lies I hope people read this and will pass the word and never to put your loved ones in this retirement home.
