I love this tattoo studio! It's a warm and comfortable environment, and I quickly felt at home. Both Jim and Janella are incredibly talented and disciplined artists. I got my tattoo from Janella, who is wildly skilled. The tattoo is of one of her drawings, and when I saw it I decided I wanted that instead of my own idea. It has healed up great and I'm glad I'll have it forever. This will see a lot of sun, so we already have a plan for how to build on it over time to keep it evolving and beautiful, and to account for how the lines may change over the years, though it hasn't changed at all in the 6 months I've had it. It was my first tattoo, and she made me feel much more secure in expressing what I wanted and what concerns I had. We talked about size, placement, and orientation and she made excellent suggestions for small changes and explained her reasoning. She communicated in a way that made it easier for me to understand, so I went with her advice, and I'm so glad I did. I don't think that I would be anywhere near as happy with what I thought I had wanted. I've been back a few times since then to plan out more (and much larger) tattoos with her. Her room, like the rest of the shop, is very clean, and she took plenty of time to make sure I'd be comfortable sitting for as long as she needed. She worked very diligently and professionally, fast but not at all rushed, and maintained a great focus. She has a very gentle touch when it comes time to stretch the skin and start in with the needle. She's easy to talk with, but also very easy to sit quietly with, which I really appreciate. I got to spend a lot of the time looking at the couple of boards in her room where she displays drawings of her previous tattoos, and I was able to flip through one of her portfolios as well. Her style is unlike anything I've seen, and I'm getting more tattoos of her originals from her very soon. read more

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: The Good: Jim is a really nice guy, and his prices are great. He does VERY simple work well. The Bad: I went in to get two tattoos in one session (both small). One of them came out fine--better than fine actually. But it was a simple star from the flash book: all straight lines and on an easy spot to put a tat. The Ugly: the second tattoo was on my back. I didn't go to Redemption in Cambridge because I thought it was so easy that anyone could do it. Big mistake. The design was the signature of how my mother used to sign letters to me (she had passed away, so it was a memorial tattoo). So, basically, tracing lines, all in black ink--not difficult. The ink totally blew out and it looks like it was written in an ink ball pen that then smudged when someone's hand went over it. When I went back after it started healing Jim said that it was in a fatty spot that was hard to work on and that sort of thing can happen. Well, Jim, why didn't you tell me that BEFORE you did the work so I wouldn't get the tattoo on that spot?!? I consulted another tattoo artist who said that if he had used a three needle instead of a one needle and pulled my skin taught, it would have come out just like I had wanted. Jim said that he could fix it (free of charge) by shading it with light blue around it. No--that wasn't gonna work for me. That wasn't what I wanted and would look really weird. We discussed having a number of sessions with saline solution which has the potential to fix the unwanted blur; but when I came to think of it--if he did that crappy a job on the tattoo in the first place, I wasn't about to trust him to be able to fix it. He also did a tattoo on my friend that same day. I don't think it was entirely Jim's fault, because my friend didn't take very good care of it afterwards, but it is an eyesore. It's may be partially her fault, but the execution of the tattoo was sub-par, to say the least. So I'm happy with my star, but now I'm going to pay a ton of money to have my mom's signature removed and then redone at a better place like Redemption. Get your tattoo at another shop. Please. Tattoos are forever (or very expensive to remove). read more

I wanted to get a small tattoo and wanted something a little local than my usual trip up to NH. Reading Yelp and other internet reviews, I stumbled upon InkJam Tattoo. I spoke directly with Jim, and was able to schedule a Sunday afternoon appointment. Got a little lost in my directions, and Jim was extremely patient and understanding on the phone as I was running late. Once there, Jim explained everything, sized up my tattoo accordingly. I signed the paperwork, saw the cleanliness of the studio, and was at ease. Jim helped to readjust the positioning of the tattoo as I requested and began to work. Since it was a small Chinese symbol, the work was very quick. Jim is very professional and easy to talk to. I spoke about how I was interested in a coverup tattoo and after Jim finished my tattoo, I showed him my old tattoo and he discussed options on how to redo it. Satisfied with his answers, I was happy to set up a consultation for the coverup in a couple of months. Overall, I'm happy with my tattoo and happy with the service. Although that's not what he typically does he have done such a beautiful job!I can't even describe how happy I was when I saw my tattoo.The lines are so fine and it's very detailed. Jim puts so much time & effort into his work and makes sure you get exactly what you want I also have gotten 2 cover up's done by Jim - one being a big black tribal... Jim covered it up with beautiful roses and you can not even notice that I once had this horrible tattoo there! Jim never ceases to Amaze me with his work!! I went to Inkjam Thursday for a tattoo honoring my 7 year old daughter who was diagnosed at 18mo with a rare autoimmune disease that has no cure. The bravery, resilience and strength that she has possessed the past 5.5 years encouraged and secured my decision to get a tattoo that shows the whole world what kind of daughter I was blessed to have. Within 2 minutes of meeting Mina and Jim I knew I was at the right place. Mina worked with me, never getting annoyed or pressuring, to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted, and reminded me that it did not matter what anyone else would say or think, it was my decision, my body and MY tattoo. The shop is amazingly decorated, clean and professional. Mina explained every little detail as she went on setting up the room, opening the sterile needle in front of me and while preforming her immaculate artistry. The results were beyond amazing, are healing perfectly-allowing me to show off my tattoo to anyone I have seen these past few days. This is one tattoo I will never regret, have covered over or allow anyone else to come near it or any other part of my body with a needle!! I recommend Mina 100000 out of 10. Though Jim did not do my tattoo, he was there to give his professional advice and listen to my story. I loved watching Jim and Mina work together- Jim clearly respects his employees and values their relationships. Not much more you could ask for in a boss. We chatted after my tattoo was done, he expressed real concerns for my daughter and her health- interested in the disease and what Cadence did and still does endure for treatment. He sympathized in a way I know was for real. After explaining Cadences disease and the one organization out there for raising money for awareness, research and hopefully finding a cure, Jim was on board with helping the MA Chapter next fall on our fundraiser. He didn't hesitate telling me he would donate gift certificates and allow me to hang any flyers or letters promoting the fundraiser in his shop. I hope Mina and Jim know the impact they had on me, obviously my new amazing tattoo- but knowing that you can meet strangers these days that still care for others and are not in business only for themselves. So again, it was more then my pleasure to have met Jim and Mina , to have Mina use her talent to perfect my tattoo, and make me feel comfortable. Inkjam guarantees their work, encourages you to call or stop by with any questions and gave easy yet specific instructions on after care. I honestly left the shop feeling as if I had known them both for longer then the few hours I was there- which unfortunately is a rarity these days. Typically you feel like a number, but not here. I got my first tattoo here back in August, just a simple line design (the Deathly Hallows for all you HP nerds out there!) Came out great and Lauren made me feel very comfortable and totally understanding when I had her move the stencil 2 or 3 times. I contacted her again a couple months later for a bee and flower design in a victorian etching design. I sent her a few reference photos and the sketch she sent me was amazing. The actually tattoo was even more amazing. I went back a couple weeks ago to get it finished an another arm piece that she designed from scratch with only a sentence or two about what i was looking for. Not only is Lauren an amazingly talented tattoo artist (especially with tiny lines, single needle) she is is an EXCEPTIONAL fine artist. Her designs were so much more than I ever thought they would be. I'm an artist myself, but didn't want to design my own work. Lauren is incredible and very helpful with any changes you want to make. My tattoos, which are all very fine lines, are PERFECT after healing. No blown out lines or anything. Everyone who sees them can only comment on how beautiful it is in design and technique. I have already recommended 3 or 4 people to her who have gone and gotten just as beautifully detailed work. I will recommend EVERYONE to Lauren who wants gorgeous tattoos. Helps that Lauren is really funny and easy to talk to. My 2nd and 3rd sittings were both 5 hours, but didn't feel like it! The prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of work as well. I found this place through Yelp and because of the ratings I decided to make an appointment. When I showed up at the place, there was no one at the front desk. I waited like 5 minutes until I finally decided to say "Hello" a lady responded back "Hello, you can come back here if you like" so I did. I told her I had an appointment for a consultation and she said (with an attitude) "I was not aware of it, if you want sit at the front till I'm done with this tattoo so that I can take care of you". When my old tattoo parlor went out of business I looked around the area to find a new place and came upon Inkjam by doing an online search..I decided to give him a try after seeing his website and some of his work..The first one he did for me came out so good, I have been back there for my last two and will use only Jim as long as possible..My last one was a coverup of a 20 yr old tattoo and nobody who has looked at the can even see a hint of the old one..The young lady who works out front for him (Amanda) also needs to be credited as she designed this cover up and although when I first saw it, it wasn't at all what I had in mind, her drawing was so spectacular, I had to go with it... I saw Lauren this week for my very first tattoo. I had done a TON of research on where to go, and after seeing her website and work, decided this was the place to go. The tattoo I was looking for was very intricate, and I know that's what she specializes in. I arrived about 15 minutes early, and she was there and ready to start my appointment. The shop itself is very clean and friendly. Lauren was just awesome to work with. Drew a beautiful design, which was exactly what I wanted. She took her time explaining everything about the process, and getting the placement just right. She was considerate enough to do everything in one appointment, since the shop is quite far from where I live. I sat with her for six hours, which absolutely flew by. Lauren was just wonderful to work with, and I couldn't be happier with the finished product. Looking forward to seeing it as it heals.
