I must confess this is a different review to my original intentions. This place is in my local shopping village and we watched as it was being fitted out, secretly hoping for a good Indian restaurant - I mean we already have two Thai, two Italian, two cafes, a Chinese a Japanese and a couple of pizza places, plus of course the Belgian Beer place. All we need is a good curry for the full set, so to speak.
So when it opened as a bit of this and a bit of that, we were a little skeptical. We duly went along in the first week and were rather confused by the menu - seemed to be crossover Thai, Chinese and other assorted Asian bits. And the place smelt of oil and grease - one of her pet hates.
Nevertheless, we wanted to support local business, and away we went.
A glimmer of hope on the wine list - some great Two Hands wines, my favourites, couple of notable Central Otago pinot noirs, and a mix of other rather good wines.
But to be fair our first experience was pretty ordinary, and we didn't think we would be back.
And so I thought I would give them an average review at best, but then I read the first reviewers notes and thought, you know what, we owe them another try. It's proof folks, Yelp works!!
So we went again last night - and indeed the atmosphere has improved, the decor is very nice, the staff attentive, and the wine list still good.
I had a duck curry, she the marinated chicken, and shared salt and pepper prawn entree.
It was all very nice - the chicken is a huge dish, the meat coming on one of those gimmicky hanging skewers, but large well flavoured and cooked portions. The duck curry was well flavoured, with lychees and pineapple, and our salt and pepper prawns were a little different to our expectation but very nice.
the staff were very attentive, water glasses continually filled, that kind of thing.
So Infuzions, a narrow escape for you, a average to bad review turned around by another reviewer convincing me to try again, and a good second experience outshining our previous. And in fact, we will return, so all in all a success.
