Everywhere you look, there's something strange, imaginative, interactive, or just plain fun to discover. The entire experience is the work of local artists, and their talent really shows. It's quirky, immersive, and completely different from your typical art gallery. Coming from Colorado and having experienced Meow Wolf in Denver, I can genuinely say I enjoyed Monkey C Artcade even more. It feels more personal, less commercial, and like you're stepping directly into the artists' imaginations. One of the things I appreciated most is how they handle admission. They want you to experience the Artcade first and contribute afterward, with a suggested sliding scale of $10-$30 CAD, or more if you want to help support them. Those contributions are what help keep the doors open and allow these local artists to continue creating. If you're in Victoria, don't overlook this place. Go explore, have fun, embrace the weirdness, and support some incredibly talented local artists. Absolutely worth it!

It was clear that a lot of time and talent went into many of the exhibits. That said, the experience felt a bit inconsistent. Some areas were much more engaging than others, and a few of the displays didn't have the same level of detail. At times, multiple audio narrations were playing at once, which made it difficult to focus and became a little overwhelming. We also noticed that several of the interactive buttons and TV displays weren't working during our visit. For $19, I don't regret stopping by, but it just wasn't quite what I was expecting. For me, it's more of a one-time attraction than somewhere I'd visit again. If you enjoy miniature art and displays, it may be worth checking out, but it ultimately wasn't the right fit for my interests.

In general, I'm not sure if I would go out of my way to come back but with kids who like small things, trains, dioramas, it was worth doing! I think we were in and out in about an hour. I bet some kids could zoom through in less time (then maybe not worth the price?) and some kids might take 1.5-2 hours, so maybe try to gauge if you think its something you/your family would enjoy. Some displays had buttons that didn't work but for the most part if you looked or read the placard you could figure out what was going on.

I just don't get it. That said, the RBCM continues to hit curatorial home runs. Its exhibits are consistently imaginative, engaging, and beautifully designed--whoever leads their creative direction is a bloody genius.

With this being said, I was vacationing in Victoria, BC and trying something completely new. My friends and I gave Epic Escape a try. We had fun and we tore the room we were trapped in apart looking for clues. It felt good to search through this space and it felt great when we found a clue or solved a lock. However, there was a lack of direction/sequence with the clues. We bounced from one idea to the next. We solved every puzzle but one, however the administrators had to come in and point us in different directions several times. I kept an open mind even though some of the clues were quite a stretch. In the end my compadres and I were unable to escape. We were released by the staff who were eager to show us how to solve the final combination lock. They asked us for a blue light we had found earlier in the adventure. It, sadly, did not reveal the clue it was intended to reveal. The ink that was supposed to illuminate under the light had faded so much that it could not be seen. I was so disappointed that we had done all we could do, but due to faded ink we were unable to escape the room even with the help of the staff. It was such a let down. I asked for my money back but no one acknowledged my request. I like the concept of this business. I was let down that the idea had not been successfully developed to completion. -Aimee
