Infosys is a wonderful company staffed with professional, friendly and intelligent people and I would love to work there except for one problem. Unfortunately the hiring process at Infosys is ripe for employment fraud or identity theft. Several months ago I received a job offer from infosys to work at one of their clients. I was told to submit my Social Security number over the internet to a company called "Accurate Background Check". The link for the Infosys background check was emailed using an insecure email. There was no way to verify that the email actually originated from Infosys since all of my contacts with the company were online or at a shared office space. Prior to the job offer from Infosys I had received thousands of emails apparently from identity thieves targeting Infosys, Tata Consulting, Wipro and others. These emails mostly concluded by asking for the last 4 digits of my Social Security Number or other financially sensitive information. I refused to continue with this process and I have regretfully stopped entertaining offers from Infosys due to this issue. I believe that such a flawed recruiting process not only exposes new hires to identity theft but is also a potential liability issue for the company itself.
