I recently checked out this event at the Newport Art Museum with a few of my girlfriends and we had…read moresuch a fun night. It was the perfect excuse to get dressed up and try something new, with a twist of course... delicious cocktails. The Edgar Allan Poe experience itself was really well done. The actors were fantastic and fully committed to their roles. I loved the costumes and the dramatic personalities. It made the whole evening feel immersive without being over the top. I'm actually at the museum about once a month for meetings, so it was fun to see the space used in a completely different way. My only wish is that we had a little more time to wander and take in the current exhibits, because it's such a beautiful setting. My one real downside is parking. With the recent changes, it has become pretty difficult to find a spot that is easy to get in and out of, especially during a New England winter. Definitely something to plan ahead for. Overall, such a unique and memorable night. I would absolutely recommend grabbing your friends and checking this out if it comes back around.

There are actually 2 buildings and both were beautiful with some stunning pieces. Small, but lovely, and still somehow incredibly grand. I didn't get to go into the main/large room because they were installing a new exhibit but there is a good amount to see beyond that one space anyway. The gift shop was small and no one was manning it so I didn't get to buy a souveneir but I enjoyed walking around the history and art that was everywhere. Also worth mentioning, but they had some good pieces by woman artists (c. 1940s) which I feel can be extremely hard to find. For this museum, the women tended to be friends of the original owners or at least ran in the same circles and some were even founding members of the museum's art association. Always so nice to see women's art (and some were my favorite pieces!) That being said, most of the art was very high brow white upper class with an emphasis on orientalism, which I feel simply encourages conversations about the zeitgeist of the early 1900s. I did really enjoy the pieces they had from Edward Mitchell Bannister which were on loan from the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society. There was also a members juried exhibit which brought some breath into the traditionalist art space. Well worth the visit!!

She showed me all the rooms that you could use- and there were sooooo many, it was so cute. She showed me that they even had a changing room, so if someone were to bring numerous outfits they could change that's a great idea- I wish I had thought to bring more than one outfit. But it was just the spur of the moment thing. The selfie rings are super lightweight and easy to use. You can use a iPhone or droid they teach you how to use it. Also the music was on point- it made the vibes even better. I will be going back again- I enjoyed my time very much and I would recommend doing this- I went alone and got great pictures! You don't even need to go with anyone you can take amazing pictures of yourself. But bringing someone might make it even more fun. I was told they try to change out some of the themes here and there, but some of the themes stay because they're so in demand. But for the price it was totally worth it.

I believe some of the doors (there are a lot of doors) have the auto-open feature. Parking lot has a good amount of lights too. Lobby has been updated in the past few years with lots of food options, a bar area, an arcade area and a private room you can rent for birthday parties and the like. There are a few seating options in the lobby as well. In theater seats are assigned, so buy them in advance on-line to get your preferred seat. There is also a kiosk inside the back door you can use to buy tickets and there are customer service reps to buy them from a person. Both these on-site options also allow you to purchase for a future date/time if the on-line option isn't your comfort zone. Cinemas are located off long hallways left and right off the lobby with a large men's and ladies' room off each hallway. Although not remodeled, the restroom does look like it's had some aesthetic updates. Cinemas are wheelchair accessible with ramps on the lower level. Seats recline and have small tables for snacks you purchased and cup holders. Each level is high enough above the one in front that no one's head is in your way. The audio is *loud*. I wear ear plugs and it's still plenty loud. Some theaters offer 3D movies or advanced sound experiences. All movies now offer Closed captioning and descriptive services. See customer service for info on those. Movie tickets are pretty pricey, and it's nice that this cinema is updated to make the experience comfortable with big reclining seats and enjoyable with cinematic surround sound. Lots of base. Theaters, lobby and restrooms are kept clean. Snow was cleared from the lot and sidewalks and they were sanded. It's great they have food, popcorn, candy, soda and adult beverages available too if you really like to splurge on your night (or day) out.
