Your a business!! $$ is ur ultimate goal... it's obvious the staff was lazy and wanted to go home! Good customer service always makes exceptions for customers. It was 1 am (I think I would know since I was the frustrated angry customer) AND even if u closed in 30 min, WOULD IT kill u if you gave us 10 min extra while u took care of other closing shift duties. As a matter of fact, I ended up calling another lounge that was closing same time as u and they didn't hesitate accepting us. You guys ended up doing us a favor anyway! Genie shit is what u are!!! We were visiting from California and wanted to enjoy the Portland/Tigard city area....we never experienced disrespect, like the one u showed us in Any fucking hookah lounge down in LA!!! I smoke hookah daily. I knew the Time u we're closing and knew exactly what I was getting myself into. Clearly I have money to spend and no more time to waste on ur dumbass!!!!!! And to even have someone from ur business defend themselves 'nancy' the way u did .... I rest my case

For me genies is not a hookah bar, it's family. So many of us come to smoke on a regular basis. And…read moreso If your new and you stop in... It's all the weird people, don't be afraid that's just how we are. We are all very close and a matter of a fact so close people ask me how long I have worked for genies... Answer is never, never have I officially worked here. But when your at your house with your family and your mom asks you to grab her a glass of water, you do it. Well same for me. I am closer with most the people here then I am with some of my own family. On that note let's talk about the staff that does work currently at genies. Owner- Rashid You will never find someone who cares for you as much as him.... As long as you don't piss him off your good! I have watched bless peoples lives. He has always tried to make genies better and better. Which is not needed cause it's already the best in Portland. He has made the entire inside look wonderful since he started owning it. Fresh paint, new chairs... all this year. Has planned special parties. If it's your birthday and you have a group he is always taking care of birthdays. I call him my brother, cause he is always there for me when I need him. And if your new I suggest you ask the staff who he is and get to know him cause he will always be happy to talk to you. Connor "simba" What to say about Connor.... Well first off you should probably just call him simba cause everyone else already does. He is the skinny white guy with long hair. And he is a PRO at making hookah. You like mint, always ask Connor to make it. He is a down to earth guy who I also consider to be an awesome friend. Also disclaimer, mouth like a sailor some days... Don't worry you get used to it Shawn Also has mastered the art if hookah making. Shawn is a hard working guy, he has lots of pet peeves. All of which I test in a daily basis. But seriously he is an awesome person. You like fruit mixes, Shawn is the guy to talk to. He knows some really good mixes. As for all the other people you see passing out coals and helping do stuff. Well we are customers who love to help make the lives of the 3 people above a little easier. This review is crazy long. But trust me. You don't want to miss out on genies. People drive hundreds of miles just to smoke at genies. That's not a joke, true story. It's that good. I suggest you stop reading this ridiculously long yelp review and get your ass to genie hookah. -RIAN

I believe, they also shopped their little store for some take home treats! We will be having a food-to go, again, so we can compare the difference in how they fixed lamb. During Easter, that's what I was craving, and I didn't get that. UPDATE #2: Because it's Easter, I craved for lamb shanks. Instead of traveling to Vancouver or SW PDX, for two of our favorite restaurants, that have also lamb, I DECIDED to have to-go from Ya Hala, another of our favorite restaurant, because they're only 7 mins. from home. After searching for their menu, I ordered: Spring Lamb Pomegranate-glazed leg of lamb served with spinach-pomegranate sauce, basmati rice, and fresh peas -- $28. (See photo, why I am deducting a star). THIS is not worth $28, and it is something you'd find at a Food Cart for $14. It was also tough! I was so disappointed, and I'm not sure I'll be going back!

I haven't been here in a year or so, so do take this review with a grain of salt…read more This place is a bit small, and parking is very limited. Inside, it is very long and narrow and it gets VERY hot because of the amount of people in such a small space. The staff is really abrupt and sometimes outright rude. They seem annoyed to be bothered by customers. I believe that you can only have 2 people per hookah now, which seems to me like a way to rake in more money. The prices are way higher than I would pay again, and I have never left here thinking "Wow, that was worth it!" I will say that the people who frequent Urban Hookah can be really fun. It's a young crowd, and sometimes people will approach you if you're alone (which I never do) or with just one other friend. I've kind of outgrown hookah bars in general, but if you're under 21 but over 18 and you happen to be in the area with nothing to do, it's not a bad option. Just don't expect to receive the service you pay for.

They are fairly priced, at around $12 for the hookah and the tobacco, and $6 from then on for refills. Whether it was empty or packed, it was a very calm place to be with nobody being excessively loud. It was hard to hold a conversation at some points though simply because the music is pretty loud. In all, I would recommend this place if you want to just enjoy some time with some friends.
