I went in to see Tina and my body was a MESS. Dealing with a lot of stress, anxiety, depression and my job is extremely physical as well. I've been dealing with severe headaches on the daily and suffer with chronic back pain. He said yes, but the deep tissue portion only lasted about 15-20 minutes before transitioning back into a light Swedish-style massage. I was also not informed that he only focuses on certain sections of the body, even though I requested a full-body session. I completely respect his massage style and understand that it may be exactly what some clients are looking for. I just wish there had been more honesty and clarity upfront so I could have chosen a therapist better suited to the type of treatment I wanted. I left feeling disappointed because I paid for a service that didn't match what was discussed beforehand.

At present, I felt a (for me) special need to receive massage therapy. I communicated prior in consultation my body's needs, and also early during our session that I needed a deeper, more systemic massage, but my communication did not impact the modality. The response I received was, "We'll see." I was not listened to. I wanted to wait a few days to monitor my biofeedback before formulating an opinion, and as some time has passed, I feel no therapeutic benefit was received. There was no felt toxin release or muscular physiological shift. My body just needs a modality that utilizes deeper pressure for systemic benefit. This would be a fine experience simply within the context of a relaxing afternoon, or if the cost was not aligned with local market rate, which is well above national averages. Unfortunately, I am going to have to continue searching for a massage therapy nearby. I only hope that this was simply an isolated experience, and not representative of the school, otherwise I feel a need to seek external influence in finding a massage therapy of value. I will not be returning to Ashland Institute of Massage, as I received no value for what I paid, which is disheartening coming from the region's education center.
