Betsy did my x-rays and she was very considerate when positioning me for the machine and participated in a friendly conversation which distracted me from my shoulder worries. Dr. Garten was great as well, explaining why I was experiencing the pains in my heel and shoulder and telling me what I could do to help avoid and alleviate the pain, including a few weeks of physical therapy. He diagnosed my shoulder as impingement and let me know that it was fixable which was a relief. For the ladies who may decide to visit Paragon, lemme warn you... Dr. Garten is a little bit of a hottie. He makes a lot of direct eye contact and his baby blues are hypnotic. It was all I could do not to giggle while he was talking to me. But I did a great job of keeping myself together, and I hope you do too. Prior to my visit, I had to cancel and reschedule because of the recent snow in Atlanta, and Paragon was quick to respond. I also had an insurance question about my visit that I handled via email, and received a quick response for that as well. If you call and get the voice mail, leave a message because they'll call you back fairly quickly or the next day. You'll have to pay for parking to visit Paragon. It's located in the Northwest Medical Offices (inside the west building with the big W on the side). The parking isn't expensive at $2 for up to 30 min and $3 for up to 60 min. The rates go up after that, but I didn't capture how high. Overall, two thumbs up!

Due to my former job with the Atlanta Hawks and Thrashers, Dr. Hoadley sent me to Dr. Garten. Finding the place wasn't hard, and it's in one of the nicest housing areas of Atlanta you'll see (West Paces Ferry Rd). Parking was a breeze (you will pay $5 to park), and then his office was in the West Tower on the 2nd Floor (there is also an East Tower). Walking in, I found the office space to be very clean and seemed to be very new. Maybe it was just all the modern furniture. I was the only one there (must have been the first patient at 9AM), and got checked in right away. The front desk lady was very nice. It wasn't long before I was called back and waited. I had handed the lady my MRI cd and notes, and she had me wait while Dr. Garten reviewed it. I certainly didn't mind the 10 minute wait or so. Walking in, Dr. Garten was very friendly and I just loved his demeanor. I went over a brief history of my running, and he had me hop up on the table and lie down. It took him literally three minutes to hit the pain points. He mentioned he reviewed my MRI and went over what was ailing me, but had wanted to check the spots first. It was SUCH a relief to hear. It was more a relief to hear that my injury wouldn't require surgery, and that a steroid pack plus PT should resolve it. Even better, someone in his family had the same injury as mine, so he referred to a PT that could handle it. I'm certainly a happy customer, b/c of the service I received and also the immediate result of knowing what was wrong. I would refer Dr. Garten to anybody. Great bedside manner and accurate diagnosis.

I saw Dr. Wing and he is without a doubt the worst orthopedist I've ever seen and one of the worst doctors. The care was adequate, which is why I'm not leaving a lower review. But he did not answer any questions or adequately explain what was happening to my leg. When I came back in for my followup, he didn't remember why I was there and once again failed to answer any questions I had. When I was having extreme pain, after I was supposed to be healed, I contacted him to discuss it. At first, he wouldn't even get on the phone. Then when I continue to ask the nurse my questions, he did get on the phone. He would not explain why I was still in so much pain. He did not want me to come back in or do any kind of further testing. He said well if it still hurts then go non-weight-bearing for six more weeks. I found that unacceptable so I saw a different orthopedist at a different practice. and day and night experience. That doctor explained exactly what was going on, what pain I could ignore/push through, and what I needed to pay attention to. And it turned out that if I had followed, Dr. Wings instructions, I would've made the situation much worse. Do not go here and if you have to, do not see him.

I will start off by saying; Dr. Potts and his team of professionals have been the best to work with- ever. I don't say that lightly as I have seen my share of medical professionals over the years. I am a 50 yr old female with a long history of chronic low back issues. I have a condition called "Foot Drop" which means I have to always wear an AFO (ankle foot orthotic) in order to walk without a pronounced limp. After 4 years of taxing my body with my gait being off, my right hip started bothering me. Within a 12 month period my hip degenerated to a point where it incapacitated me. Now, mind you, I am a physically active adult and have always been The pain got worse. It got so bad that after sitting in the car for more than an hour, I had a difficult time getting out of the car and when I finally did manage to stand up strait my right leg would lock itself into a 90º angle and it would take about 20-30 seconds to work its way back down to standing. I had received a recommendation for Dr. Potts from another Orthopedic Surgeon. I was a little unsure of Dr. Potts given his age and I felt like I needed a more experienced doctor. However, once he sat me down and showed me what my hip looked like through computer generation, I couldn't believe my eyes. He was very confident in his ability to repair my hip and get me up and running pain free. Dr. Potts is one of three doctors in the state of GA that repairs labral tears or replacement. He had to take a cadaver tendon and replace part of my labrum in order for me to have full function of my hip...just the thought of that...yuck, but ok...if it helps me walk like a normal human again, I'll do it. My surgery took quite some time as it ended up be more extensive than he/we anticipated. The first 6 weeks after the surgery...omg...the pain. Oh it was horrible. Physical Therapy. This is a MUST. Don't skip it, and do extra work if you are able. The very BEST PT office I've ever been-is called Sportscare Physical Therapy in Johns Creek and Duluth, GA. The owner, Jeff Lewandowski- is brilliant and comes with every PT certification known to man. It has taken me 6 months to recover. Dr. Potts will tell you this right up front, that hip reconstruction take time to heal. It's usually anywhere between 3-6 months. I think it took me a little longer due to my chronic low back issue and foot drop. omg...during my 3-6 month period, my hip would "talk to me". It let me know exactly what it didn't like. There were times when I would tweak it in just the wrong way, and it would hurt like CRAZY, but the pain went away as fast as it came. There one second, gone the next. Then there were days where I couldn't do much at all, so all I would do is rest. Whenever I would call the office about all of my "zings and zangs", they would reassure me that this was normal and would go away over time. It did. Its been 6.5 months since my surgery and I feel GREAT! The hip pain is 98% gone, I am able to walk normally, and it does't get stuck in a 90º angle anymore after sitting for too long. During my last check up with Dr. Potts I told him how well I was doing, and he was, of course very happy to hear the good report. He recommended that I continue to listen to my body, respect the area, so to speak. Now, I experience those "zings and zangs" only when I push myself too hard and it's time to take a rest. My opinion is that Dr. Potts is an excellent surgeon and he comes highly recommended by me. He and his office staff are amazing, the are all very patient and knowledgeable in their field. Other surgeons didn't want to do the surgery or even recommend someone partially due to the complexity and my age of 74. Dr. Potts never hesitated and was confident of good outcome.
