We've also been able to attend their David Lynch celebration Wonderful and Strange: A David Lynch Appreciation Festival which was one of the most interesting and lovingly crafted events related to Lynch or any director that I have ever experienced. Bottle Episodes was another great monthly event they ran which featured their awesome group of performers acting out television shows, I only hope one day they'll return as seeing shows like Unsolved Mysteries and GI Joe get acted out this way was extremely fun. The theater isn't huge but does have a clean bathroom and excellent setup for visual effects via projection. There is a lot of passion that goes into the playwriting, acting and musical performances at the Mercury Theater and it's a venue that helps define art in Baltimore.

It can be completely hit or miss depending on who your bartender is. And last night I witness a truly disrespectful interaction between my friend who is a WOC and one of the bartenders. I understand having a limited drink menu, but each time my friend asked for a recommendation she was responded to as if she had just spit in that woman's face. The final straw was when my friend said, "I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with most of these drinks. What do you have that is sweet?" asking for a recommendation. The bartender looked at her and said "sugar" then rolled her eyes so hard I'm surprised they didn't get stuck in the back of her head. I understand being over your job, but my friend did nothing wrong. Was not rude, and in return got spoken to like a child. I don't know what the chip on this person's shoulder was, but if you absolutely HAVE to to be vile to everyone you speak to, try a back of the house position because you are actively damaging your bar's reputation.

There was a preset menu for cocktails, mocktails, wines, and beer. Some of the mocktails were sweeter than my liking, but it was fine. The staff were awesome. The bartender was solo up until it turned into a cash bar -- she was working really hard! The music was at a great volume, and food was being passed around regularly. It's really a great space for having a private party. And on top of that, while it can fill up quickly, there's free street parking outside. I do wish the bathroom was lockable -- the stall within there is, but otherwise things could get awkward. Pro tip -- it's behind the stage.

The theatre we were in held only 79 people, which is definitely an intimate experience. The food types and pricing was very good. We just got a large popcorn and large drink, but we could have gotten alcohol by the ounce, sandwiches, platters, desserts, and not just the standard fare at a regular movie theatre. In addition, the seats were super comfortable, they were heated, you could lay flat if you wanted to and there was a moveable, large tray table in front and to the side of you. I can't wait to come back. I'm relatively new to the area and this will be my choice move theatre now and in the future. Highly recommend seeing a film here.

Of course I came on a Tuesday because movie tickets are $7 on Tuesdays. Parking is super easy because there is a garage with 8 levels and parking is free up to 4 hrs. I felt like the strawberry icing made them overly sweet. I also felt they were overpriced at $11. The cocktail was very refreshing and delicious and created a nice mellow buzz. The theater lobby, bathroom, and auditorium were very clean. The reclining chairs are very comfortable and I accidentally discovered they were heated seats. My only gripe with the chairs is the trays were adjustable so you food would be closer to you while recliner. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at the movies and will definitely be back.

To be up front about things Brooke our teacher is also Co-owner, and I think her style and approach bodes well for anyone taking a class from her organization. We were lucky enough to be in a class comprised of only my three family members (one of the benefits of going on Easter ). Judging from the set up they do not overbook their classes like other groups do. And they allow children as young as twelve which the groups who do this in bars and restaurants simply don't. They have a minimum age of twenty one. The instructions were ear and the pace was casual. Brooke was very flexible in working with us, going as far as allowing our daughter to modify the color palette and adjusting her teaching to make sure my daughter got the effect desired. Before we left the next session had been planned so I would have to say we will do it anything. Check out their website they do a large variety of painting and quite a few special events. A fun way to spent a few hours. Even without the alcohol

I recently went to a YELP ELITE event hosted by Painted Palette fell in love with the place and decides this would be a fantastic idea for my birthday. I called looking for something at least 5 weeks in advance. I called left and message and a day goes by I dont receive a call back. So I call again and again and again, I get the voicemail each time. I decide to send a email. I receive a pretty quick response. The day I would like is booked, bummed out a little but hey Im flexible. I request two other dates one date is booked for my alloted time and the other date had a inquiry but the party had not booked as of yet. Well I let Becca know that I would take the date if the other party did not book. She emailed me back, thanked me for my flexibilty and told me she would get back to me ASAP. well this has been the longest ASAP I have ever endured. I have not heard back from her and I actually took the time to stop into the studio to see if the date had actually booked. I Spoke with the co owner who told me she would take down my information give it to Becca and I should hear from her that evening. I really dislike being kept in limbo its very unprofessional, my time is more important than the money I spend. A simple email back or phone call letting me know I had not been forgotten or the date was booked is all I needed. Anyway I booked with another company, My Birthday "Paint nite Baltimore" will still go on. Ladies if you do happened to read this, I think you have a great concept and I really did enjoy the Elite event, however your follow ups and response to phone calls definitely need some improving.

First, call ahead (there is no online system so you do actually have to call) to make sure they are giving tours and at what times (only certain days of the week, last tour usually starts at 1 PM). This mansion is another relic from the gilded age, however this one isn't completely stuck in the past and is a living, breathing arts venue. The last residents (she died in 1956 I think) had no children and left it to Johns Hopkins University with the specification it be used as an art museum. And there is a lot of interesting and attractive art, though it's mostly art by European white men. That's just what the owners collected . . . but our docent told us they are trying to diversify the collection by purchasing pieces by artists of color. The libraries are actually part of the Johns Hopkins collection and students can make appointments to come read them or use them for research. There are some nature books and some Audubon books that are so large that they require two people to move and turn the pages. There is also a reading room for students. It was previously their bedroom, which they didn't want displayed. There are some fun little quirky rich people things (if you dissociate from today's capitalistic hell). A 23K gold bathroom. The second wife who lived in the residence was obsessed with herself and had multiple paintings and busts of herself around the home. And her bathtub was surrounded by mirrors, including a mirror on the ceiling. A bowling alley that was turned into a display space for all their expensive artificacts. A lot of Tiffany glass. Antiquities. My admission was 10 dollars with a AAA discount. I think regular admission is 12 dollars.

There is plenty of parking as it's a bit away from the main Johns Hopkins campus. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and explained a lot about each room and answered all of our questions. There are a lot of beautiful and unique objects, even though unfortunately photograph isn't allowed in the good rooms. The sheer amount of books they owned and how they present them is pretty inspiring. The Garrett's having their own performance/stage area is pretty unique, and you can even rent the space out if desired. At the end, there's a great display of their Asian art collection, and then suddenly you are back in the gift shop where you started, which has some good items. The tour was more than an hour, but it was really interesting, and all the employees were excited to answer questions, so you could see their passion. It's a great tour and worth doing if in Baltimore.
