My daughter and I went to see Dr. R. Chhiba to see both of my feet as she said that she wants to do first my bad big bunion size like ping pong ball on Oct 23, 2024. Then on January 23, 2025 went well surgery and at first it hurts because of surgery. I do understand and today 2/5/2025 to see her again to remove thread. I will find out what is next? read more

I have some lousy feet thanks to genetics, years of marching band, running and dancing. Bunions on both feet and recently I'd developed some serious heel pain which was limiting my activities. Enter Indy Podiatry! I found Dr. Helms via a referral, and was able to make an appt. without wait. He examined my feet thoroughly and made a presumptive diagnosis of plantar fasciitis for the heel pain. He carefully taped my foot to provide support, provided me with exercises and a massage ball. I continued to follow up with him and eventually had custom orthotics crafted. His treatments worked, and alleviated my heel pain. Unfortunately most of the service I received (including orthotics) weren't covered by my insurance, but YMMV. The cost wasn't financially prohibitive though, and truly worth it to not have constant heel pain! When and if I have to have my bunions repaired, I'll update this review but otherwise I am more than pleased with the services I received in this office. read more

The care has been more than ok for my planters fasciitis. However they charged $176 for a Ossur Night Splint that is $32.33 on Amazon. I pointed this out to the billing department and she told me they get it from a high quality medical supply house and not from Amazon. However, it's the exact same thing on Amazon for the color I got and they have a $21.95 version that's a different color. I'm having major complications after bunion surgery performed by Dr. Chhiba over seven months ago.

Dr. Helms and the entire staff at Indy Podiatry have been great to work with over the past few months. I was referred to him by my PCP regarding ankle issues. Dr. Helms was thorough in his exam, he listened to all my concerns, and answered my questions. He described his findings to me and helped me to understand the big picture of my ankle problem (I have flat feet and probably should have been treated for it years and years ago, but I just didn't know better). He made recommendations but did not pressure me to make a decision. With the information provided, I chose to have him fit me for custom orthotics, and boy have they made all the difference - not just in my ankles but also in my knees, hips, and lower back! Dr. Helms took the time to understand multiple aspects of my activities and lifestyle, explain what's going on under the surface, listen to what's important to me and work on a plan together. I came in thinking I might need surgery and had put off an appointment for more than a year, because it was "never a good time." Now, I wished I had come in sooner; my chronic condition would have been relieved sooner and without surgery. I was referred to Indy Podiatry by another patient & had high hopes for a pain relief solution. In my first visit I was told custom orthotics were an option, but that in the end surgery is inevitable. I began preparing for the inevitable & began doing online research, contacting insurance, ect. I also decided to get a second opinion to confirm. Meanwhile, I went in for a follow up appointment with Indy Podiatry, where surgery was strongly pushed & surgery dates within the next 2-3 weeks were suggested. I was also told that the Dr preferred a specific surgery center, of which he was a partial owner, & that a total cost for surgery couldn't be provided in advance because they couldn't determine what the surgery center was going to charge. Definitely didn't get a good vibe from that. I also asked the Dr about non-surgical options I'd researched, all of which were shot down as ineffective. On my way out I requested that copies of my x-rays be sent. They asked if I needed them that day. My 2nd opinion was scheduled for 11 days later, so I thought no problem, plenty of time... 6 days later (a Wednesday) & no sign of my x-rays, so I called. I was unable to reach a human being so I left a message which went unreturned (regarding x-rays as well as a question I had). Two days later (a Friday) I again called to inquire about my x-rays, as my 2nd opinion was early Monday morning. I was finally able to reach a person & explained the situation. They claimed the x-rays had been mailed (which I later learned hadn't been mailed out until the day I'd left my unreturned message). At that point I had to have the x-rays that day so I was forced to drive across the city to pick them up in rush hour traffic. When I arrived at my 2nd opinion appt Monday morning I learned the disc which was supposed to have my x-rays was completely blank. Useless. So I had to get (& pay for) a 2nd set x-rays, which could have easily been avoided. None of this inspired confidence in me for Indy Podiatry. In the end I'd rather pay for a 2nd set of x-rays for a 2nd opinion than be strong-armed into unnecessary surgery. You read that correctly. Unnecessary surgery. My 2nd opinion was with an orthopedic surgeon, who after reading my new x-rays, informed me that my situation is considered mild & hadn't progressed nearly to the point where I needed surgery. He provided a non-surgical option which he said works for many of his patients & said that even if it didn't work for me there were other non-surgical options to try before surgery. He scheduled a follow-up appt for 6 weeks later. I immediately felt relieved. I realize everyone's situation is a bit different, however I've since spoken with several people who have had surgery for the same medical situation & regretted it. The non-surgical option offered by the orthopedic surgeon took a few days to adjust to, however within just a week of use I'm thrilled to say it *significantly* reduced my pain. Six weeks later, same thing, & now I'm barely even aware of the non-surgical solution. I've also had my follow-up appt with the orthopedic surgeon, it went well & I have a follow-up in 6 months (unless I feel I need one sooner). Folks, I cannot recommend a 2nd opinion enough, it's well worth your peace of mind regardless of the outcome. You know your body better than else. So you're also the one person who can be the best advocate for you & your health & well-being is way too important to risk. There's only one you & you cannot be replaced. UPDATE 10/2/19: A year & 8 months (ish) after my original review & still very grateful for the non-surgical options I was provided by the orthopedic surgeon (2nd opinion). He had also provided suggestions on shoe brands to try which provide better support. I rarely wear heels & I'm totally ok with that, especially if it means no surgery. I've had no pain for well over a year now (except on very rare occasion when I overdo it) & have even seen improvements in my particular medical situation. Again, if you do nothing else please seek a 2nd, or even 3rd medical opinion for your own peace of mind, you never know what can come out of it! read more

I had a great experience with Dr. Helms. After a running injury to my foot and Achilles that left me immobile and in miserable pain for weeks, I realized that rest alone was not going to heal me. I was so worried that if rest wasn't working, then something was really wrong, but Dr. Helms immediately lifted my spirits by telling me that he was hopeful we could fix the problem with physical therapy, and I could run again one day if I wanted to. He was very thorough in his examinations, listened intently to my concerns, was patient with all of my questions, and was really clear in explaining to me what exactly was wrong. Dr. Helms with Indy Podiatry is the best! I have been a patient of Dr. Helms for years. I recently had a bad case of plantar fasciitis. Dr. Helms started with the conservative treatments of taping and stretching the foot. When these options were not helping, Dr. Helms introduced (EPAT) shockwave therapy. While it was somewhat painful at times, I can honestly say that it finally relieved the pain and my foot is back to normal.
