The style is nepalese so you will find some different dishes on the menu compared to the standard curry house selling kormas to vindaloos. All the food appears to be cooked fairly freshly, with peppers found within the sauces still having crunch to them, and onions still looking fresh. I fully recommend the Lamb Karahi dish, and the Muttar Paneer is an awesome vegetarian dish, oh and the poppadoms are fantastic with spices cooked through them with lovely dips to go with them. Beer prices are reasonable, although higher in cost than a pub, but thats usually to be expected in restaurants. All in all i fully recommend trying out the third eye, and you can always go out in didsbury for a few drinks afterwards.

Curries are without doubt my favourite food, so I've had a good few and since working for Yelp I have set myself the task of really locating the finest curry houses in Manchester. The Original Third Eye fully deserves to enter in at the top, alongside my other favourites, Punjab in Rusholme, Moon in Withington, and The Original Lal Qila on Deansgate. See my list for the run down. The name Original Third Eye comes from one of the finest restaurants in Kathmandu, though it is also a reference to the concept of the all Seeing Eye, a central emblem of Buddhist thought that is depicted on many temples and shrines throughout Nepal. The restaurant itself is large, and spacious, with authentic decoration and a smart, but still nicely informal, table arrangement. The food is literally unbelievable. Needless to say they sell all the usual traditional curry dishes, including an extensive fish list, but the main specialties are something new and unusual, a curry with a little something extra, taking it to that next level of joy and producing happiness and glee in their very consumption. The kidney kebab starter for example, combines classic kebab spices with beautiful marinated lamb kidney. Also beautiful is the Third Eye Tangri, which mixes chicken with minced lamb and nuts, a surprising and beautiful combination. In terms of mains, go directly to either the seafood menu or the Third Eye Specials section, on which everything is gorgeous. The piece de resistance, is the Murghi Masala, a whole chicken marinated in wonderful spices. This dish is so precisely crafted, that you in fact need to give 24 hours notice, and at least two people need to share it. I think that epitomizes this restaurant's absolute class. So I end on that note.

But now in Northenden it's much easier and it's still the same amazing food. Really rustic, really cheap, really authentic - their Dosa, Idli and a variety of other pancake style dishes are to die for. £28 for 4 peoples food and a beer - great stuff, basically just go here, now!!

Of all the restaurants and takeaways we walked passed on the way, theirs had the most people in, which was promising. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a corner table, next to a large group who were there celebrating a birthday by the looks of it. We needed some help with figuring out the menu, as there were no descriptions of the dishes - our server talked us through practically every dish! The dosas (savoury pancakes) are the house special, alongside oothappam breads, rice and tiffin dishes or simple curries. We decided to share starters between us and have our own mains. The food started to arrive after a bit of a wait - it's all served on compartmentalised metal trays which don't like to stay put on the wipe-clean table tops. I wanted to love it but it was all rather...beige and underwhelming. The Medhu Vadai was bland, even with the massive portion of yoghurty/mild curry sauce it was served with. I opted to try their chicken masala dosa filled with potato masala and served with chutneys and sambar which was alright, but really not the taste sensation I was hoping for. My friends did enjoy their curries though, with them both saying they were nice and spicy. This is my second ordering of dosas after trying them at Sanskruti and I don't think I'll bother with them again unfortunately.

The cuisine lies between Nepalese and Indian classics, the Indian ones being given a Nepalese twist in keeping with its name sake. I heartily recommend the Gurkha Grill Special: a half spring chicken marinated in typical Nepalese spices, then covered with a very mild sauce with a dash of white wine. It's probably one of the most expensive dishes on the menu, and it's still only £8.95. The staff are exceptionally courteous here too, and nothing is too much trouble. I can't recommend it enough.

The food and service are both fantastic. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant for veggies, as they have a diverse range of tasty veggie dishes, many involving chena (paneer) ranging from unfamiliar dishes like the extra spicy chena chille to the more familiar chena tikka masala. We went for the vegetarian set menu which was brilliant value at £12.95 each including rice, popadums, naan, 3 main courses and coffee. Of course meat eaters are well catered for too. Happy hours are 5-7pm Monday to Thursday and 10.30pm - late every day, where you will get 15% off the bill. If it's good enough for Badly Drawn Boy (according to GG's website Damon Gough often frequents the place) and the Guardian Good Food guide, then it's certainly good enough for me.

The waiter, a young lad was literally shouting right into our ears the whole time!! He was barking orders us constantly, we wasn't a loud table yet he seemed to think he needed to shout at the top of his voice, even disturbing other diners. He was rude and irritating. The food all came out together so no one was waiting. 8 out of 12 of us were poorly all night, one guy left his whole meal because it was just a awful. I had Chicken Pakora for starter - chicken nuggets with a side salad basically, lacked any kind of spices. For main I ordered Chicken Biriyani - extremely salty and lack of chicken with an omelette dumped on the top with no kind of presentation, the curry sauce that came with it was OK at a push. Wouldn't recommend the place, the interior isn't the best, the staff and the food certainly are not anywhere near the best. TIP: AVOID.
