I just walked around to get a general idea for my Christmas shopping and added some books in my to read list. I love this store!! I wish we had this in US! It's like Barnes and Noble, but with more goodies than books. They sell books, Toys, puzzles, Knick knacks, etc.... if you're looking for unique gifts, this is your place! It's like paper source, but bigger and has more items!! read more

Most Chapters are similar with the products that they carry although this one seems to carry more non book items. They carry things from house items, gifts, scrapbooking paper, and one thing that caught my eye; globes. They were on sale for 20% off and I didn't buy one the day I saw them but decided I would go back the next day. I called in the morning and told the person who answered my phone which globe I was looking for and if they had a new one in a box. I referred her to their website and after a little bit of digging around, she was able to determine that yes, they did have one new in a box. I asked them to put it on hold and I would be by within the next few hours. I went to the cash to pay and it was sitting in the box. The cashier opened the box for us to inspect it before paying. I was very impressed with the service from all the staff that I had contact with over the phone and in person. Excellent service and a sale made this a pleasant experience! Other visits to this store, the staff have been great and very helpful. read more

The thing about Chapters is really about cost. I don't mean the books, they have little control over those prices. I mean the extra delightful things they also sell--the stationary, candles, throws, and kitchen gadgets. I leave a puddle of drool every time I check out the Papyrus cards--those are worth the price, with their feathers, lace and sequins... I LOVE Chapters, even if they won't carry my novels without a 'consignment deal'. I'm talking about the extras. You need to be careful where to spend your dollars. I snort, both loudly AND derisively at their $13 candles. Thirteen bucks for candles?! But Chapters has many deals, and many irresistible items. And I've already begun my Christmas shopping... Wanna know what I bought today? I bought two books for my favorite cousins' little guys. One Pop-Up Peek-a-Boo! Things that Go book, with a surprise under every flap. I also bought "Goodnight, Darth Vader" for the older kid...$10.99 and $17.95. I grabbed a snowflake origami set, on sale for $12.99. I don't know who I'm giving that to yet. If I can't figure that out, I'll keep it, and use it to decorate my gifts. But the treasure was the 'M-CUPS'. The 'Matryoshkas made to measure.' In plain English, they are white, food-safe, heavy duty plastic measuring cups done up as Ukrainian stacking dolls for $14. I could not resist them! My sister will LOVE them! They also had a 'paint your own' set of said dolls for sale. I managed to resist those. There were also these great 'scratch maps' for your favorite world traveler. I know someone who might enjoy scratching at the countries she's visited, like a lottery card, but I wasn't willing to pay almost $22 for a tiny novelty poster. And finally, YES, they already have throws on sale. I forget how much you need to spend to purchase them for cheap ($20), but I chose the dark grey. If I don't give it, I'll put it in the newly renovated dark blue and white 'cat room' in my house. I would recommend Chapters for your reading needs, AND your gift giving needs. Trust me, I had to tear myself away from the fruit scented, candy resembling highlighters, sweet smelling erasers, and paperclips-holding flowers. Stocking stuffers, galore...but be careful with your money. Buyer beware. read more

Chapters is one of the best examples of a large corporation threatening the livelihood of independent bookstores. Because Chapters buys their books in massive volumes, they get deeper discounts and can afford to sell their books, especially bestsellers, for less. Regular stocked books that continue to sell are not discounted in the store; however, you can usually purchase these from the website for a discount. I don't really buy books from Chapters, because I can't afford it, but when I need to buy one, I usually order from the chapters.ca or amazon.ca websites, so I can get a deal. I feel bad for not supporting local bookstores, but student loans really prevent me from doing this. So although I don't like Chapters for their ethics, I do like it because it allows me to afford books that I normally wouldn't be able to. I come to Chapters mostly to browse. It's nice that I can just grab a book, sit down in a comfy chair, and read. Also, I love the magazine selection--it's huge. They have some good magazines too like Bust and Adbusters (kind or ironic, isn't it?). I often check out other merchandise like gifts, stationary, and seasonal items. Often these will be like 70% off, and I can't resist a good deal! I once got a Harry Potter action figure for only $5! For now, while I'm in debt, I'll stay a fan of Chapters, but once I making good money, I'll be waving goodbye. read more

I find that this Chapters location, while sufficient, is often picked over and/or messier than some of the others that one can choose from. That said it has a great large section of miscellaneous items including board games, stationery, decor, and more and that's pretty useful in general! I like the children's area in the back of the store as well. I find that this location often has fewer staff on the floor than some other locations I visit. That said it is a very helpful location when I'm looking for gift giving ideas. read more

I love all Chapters! This location is not my favorite location but it still gets the job done! If you need books, this is the place to go. I love browsing through their bargain books because they have some really great deals and I always find something I love! And, in true Chapters culture, they have a Starbucks in the store so you can socialize and enjoy a coffee (as overpriced as it may be) before and/or after you browse the books! The staff at all Chapters locations are really great. They need to know a lot and they are good at their jobs. If you're looking for something, ask for help - they know what they are doing. If you can't find a staff member or if they are all busy with other customers, they have computers out for you to do your own search. Chapters is great. read more

Chapters really destroys the competition. It is probably twice the size of the next best bookstore and probably over 3 times the size of the regular book stores. I always go into Chapters to browse or skim through magazines and their book prices beat the rest. I assume it's because they get them for cheaper. The store has an endless selection of books and I can't imagine them not having what you are looking for or not being able to get it for you. If you buy from their website you will get an even better deal, this makes me feel sorry for their rivals. read more

While I do try and buy as many of my books second hand as possible there is the occasional new release I just can not wait for so inevitably I end up at a Chapters or Indigo store. In terms of overall selection I have mixed feelings about this location. When it comes to the new and hot best sellers they are always fully stocked but if your looking for a book that is say part of a series that isn't the latest one I find they usually have one or maybe two copies on the shelf if you are lucky. My other gripe is with all those non book related gifting items. I am sure I am the only person that thinks this way but I find everything in that section to be overpriced and I really feel like it has no place in a bookstore. If your into that though all the more power to you and you won't be disappointed with what they have available here. I have never had a single issue with any of the staff here and find all of them to be friendly as well as well versed on many different types of literature. Anybody can point you to the mystery section but alot of the folks here can take it even further by offering suggestions for certain authors and titles based on your tastes. I was also impressed with the gentlemen who answered the phone the last time I called here. I was looking for a certain book and he went and found it on the shelf for me instead of just trusting what the inventory screen said on the computer. He was also kind enough to set it behind the counter for me until I could make it down there later in the day. Price wise it's pretty much you pay what's on the cover here. They do have a sale section with older books and last copies of things available and I have seen the odd sale around the holidays where if you buy a certain number of titles you get one free but great deals aren't an everyday thing here. Basically if you can wait till copies make their way to places like Wee Book Inn or can borrow it from the library then I personally think those are always the best options. However if you need it now and want it to be a permanent fixture on your bookshelf this is an A-OK place to satisfy your literary needs. read more

Location-wise, this one isn't convenient for me at all, since I'm living in the deep south. However, this spot has the best section for cooking out of any bookstore in the city that I've visited. As a result, I find myself making the journey whenever I get the urge to browse for new ideas. If I ever need a break from shopping in the mall, I usually stop at Chapters. They have a great selection of magazines and books to keep yourself preoccupied for quite a while. I usually head straight for their magazine section and quickly browse through the latest car magazines. Typical of a guy I know. I have to wonder if they ever get annoyed with the people standing by the magazine section reading. There is also a Starbucks here, so you can indulge in an overpriced (but delicious) drink while reading segments from some of their bargain books. I found the staff here knowledgeable about all their books and knew exactly where to find them. If you cannot find what you're looking for, they even have a computer where you can search for the book yourself- how very convenient! Chapters is my preferred bookstore. read more

I really like this location. It's very convenient when going to West Edmonton Mall to shop. I often go to different stores in the mall to shop and after I take a break and go to Chapters inside. One time, they had a clearance price sale inside (very rare) for some books, and I was able in the past to buy a book for $1 or $2!. I also think it's a great idea that they have a children section for kids to play and read. I think it would be convenient for parents to let their kids play while they sit down and read a book (of course keep an eye on your children). read more

I appreciate this Chapters, if only because it provides a quiet place in a chaotic mall to give you a chance to regroup. Furthermore, it's quite big, so I'm usually able to find whatever book I'm looking for. Their home and gift section is big too, so I'm usually able to find something for everyone at Christmastime. Otherwise, it's your standard Chapters bookstore: the front is filled with new & hot bestsellers, there's a big children's section, and there's a Starbucks. You should try to avoid West Edmonton Mall whenever you can, but if you're forced to go, stop by here. read more
