There was a row of nuts and a row of flours for baking. There was even bulk food for animals. We saw a few barrels of cookies, bouillon cubes and pasta. Nothing was as impressive as the rows of candy. They have almost anything covered in chocolate, gummy bears and every other gummy animal that you can think of! If you can pry your eyes away from all the barrels; they actually carry a large selection of baking products, cooking necessities, spices and chips. They also have a pretty great selection of organic products (flours, snacks, bars). If you're wondering where you would store all of your bags full of goodies, they also sell jars and other containers. I would be in trouble if I lived closer to this store!

Small store in a nice…read moreplace The Sand Piper is a tiny, one room souvenir shop located right in the center of the village of St Martin. Obviously the location optimizes the amount of summer tourist traffic since many of the large tour buses from St John park right across the street from the Sand Piper. The one room is packed with stuff and I suspect the owners live upstairs in the quaint little house. The place is so small that much of the merchandise is placed outside in the nice weather. Much of the usual touristy stuff can be found here including jewelry, art, cute signs, books and of course the ubiquitous crummy t-shirts and other clothing. A few humorous items but nothing really in bad taste, this is one of the more artistic and enjoyable souvenir shop you will find. Most of the stuff is pretty cheap although some of the art and jewelry will set you back a few bucks. I ended up buying a couple of fun books on the local history and a nice crummy t-shirt. Yep, it's just a souvenir shop designed to catch the tourists visiting the area but it is a cool little place and it's difficult to walk out without finding at least something you will drag back home with you.

We came upon this little village area, and stopped at the small tourist center across the road from the shop. While there, I saw a wonderful children's book and asked the center representative if the author was local. He said she was and when I asked if they sold any of her books, he said the Sandpiper did. That was our next stop, and it was a little treasure. Yes, they could use more room, but the quaintness is one of the things that makes it unique. While looking at their items (and sure, some are "tourist" things, but many others represent the area locals) and if you're interested in children's books, be sure to check those sold here written by Heidi Jardine Stoddart. Each has a short message and signature written by the author, making them especially nice for a keepsake gift for a child. Heidi and her husband live in Rothesbay, NB. She is an elementary school teacher, and a talented artist who illustrates her own books. My great-nephew is getting two for Christmas this year! I'd return to this shop in a heartbeat, and wish we live closer to the area! It's beautiful there.

Secondspin is the best record store in Saint John! they're always updating stock, and have very…read morereasonable prices. I always find myself something new every week that I go in there. If I don't find the record that I want one week, I'll probably find it the next! My only complaint would be there hours. They aren't open on Monday or Tuesday, and close at 6:00 every other day. Their prices are actually pretty reasonable compared to the record shops in the bigger cities. If you're in the market for old 45 singles, you're in luck because SecondSpin has a huge assortment. Don't go there if you don't have a lot of time (or patience) on your hands though. The 45s are scattered all over the store with no rhyme or reason as to how they're situated (condition, genre, price, used or new.) After a bit of digging, I got frustrated and moved on. I didn't feel like getting down on my knees to sort through the unalphabetized singles in the milk crates on the floor. SecondSpin dudes, if you're reading this - organize your 45s and pick them up off the floor. Also, the store doesn't have bags. You'll have to bring your own. It was raining the day I was in there so I asked for a bag for my purchases. The counter guy looks at me blankly and says "I have no bags, man." He said this as if I was already supposed to instinctively know this. So I had to put the records under my shirt so they wouldn't get wet. I'm giving them three out of five for their reasonable prices and diversity of stock. I can live with the byob policy but I shouldn't have to bring kneepads to search their stock. Sort it out, guys.

The shop sits on the lower level of what felt like a depressed shopping mall that may have seen better days. Quiet and empty, the mall had an overall borderline creepy feeling, but once inside the shop, all was right. Cricket's Cove has an excellent selection of yarns, needles and patterns. They also have a fair amount of knitted items out for sale as well.
