How is it that I've not yet reviewed Indie Ices? I'm not sure, but I'm an absolute fan. You can find the lovely Mike most often (in the summer months) in person at Oakwood Farmers Market where he'll have his ice cream truck filled with kulfi and lassi. If you've never tried kulfi, more specifically -- his kulfi, you're really missing out. It's an Indian style of ice cream, and it's totally smooth, creamy, and totally delicious. Personally, I think it's on a par with gelato for being tastier than ice cream, but that's me.
If you've dietary requirements, you're in luck: most of the kulfi is nut-free, gluten-free, and egg-free, unless stated. (E.g. pistachio flavour -- my favourite.) Mango is really refreshing on a hot day, and he's always got some new and exciting flavours in store. (From a quick web glance, there's champagne flavour at the moment!) If you're not able to get to the farmers market in the summer, he does deliver for free around LS8 too, and I think his kulfi is in some restaurants around town as well. The lassi is also a real treat! You might even see him at the odd foodie pop-up.
If you do happen to seek Mike out, ask for his story. It's amazing that he's gone to such lengths to perfect this traditional treat, and he's a thoroughly lovely dude to boot. A fantastic bloke, serving up some of the tastiest, most traditional kulfi you'll likely try. Love it. read more
