However, when searching through the plethora of leaflets one day, I found the one for The Cinnamon Tree, and gave it a go. Their Lamb or Chicken Dansak is very tasty and filling, made, I believe with free range chicken. It is completely dairy-free as is their vegetable curry, although the Dansak is quite spicy even on the milder setting- recommended with Soya yoghurt if you have some in the fridge! The service is quick, although sometimes we've had an item missed off our order but they've re-delivered it with apologies. All in all an excellent delivery service, and they are more than helpful when it comes to asking them about ingredients and suggesting alternative dishes. This has been the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant…read more An argumentative 'so called' owner. Under filling the drinks, serving food at DANGER ZONE temperatures. Served food so quick, it could not have possibly been cooked fresh. When I was asked if everything was ok, I dared to mention the Bajiis that were not cooked through, at which point the owner picked up the plate, stabbed his finger into the food and stated that 'it feels hot enough to me' and then threw the plate back on the table. I also reminded them that I had ordered something else that had not arrived, to which i was told 'no you didn't'. I never got a chance to tell them that the rice was not hot enough to be safe to eat. Then there was the wine that had been under poured, which was what set the little guy off in the first place. Under filling drinks carries a 2 year prison sentence or a very hefty fine. When i reported them to the environmental health, I was told that this restaurant is on the 'watch list' for poor hygiene as they only scraped through with a '3' during their last inspection. This is not good enough to eat, especially as a lot of staff have limited understanding of English and even less about personal hygiene of washing hands. A good restaurant will have a '5' rating. When I got up to leave, I was met with a barrage of abuse from the little guy. Told to get my coat and leave! This entire interaction took less than 15 minutes. Needlesstosay, I did not consume the food or drink beyond the first mouthful. Sick stomach from the bad food the next day, even though I had only eaten a mouthful of each of the two dishes. IT IS USUALLY THE RICE WITH ITS MYCOTOXINS THAT GIVES YOU BAD GUTS. THIS PLACE HAS NO IDEA ABOUT FOOD HYGIENE AND IF YOU DARE TO CRITIZISE THE FOOD, YOU WILL BE KICKED OUT!! There were also jugs of coke and lemonade which they would walk around and pour for us. All this was free, but we had to pay for alcohol. A few tried to set individual tabs for themselves However, there were roughly 20 of us and 8 individuals wanting individual tabs. That would have been a headache for the staff, so we all ended up paying for each drink of our own as we ordered it (Seemed fair to me). We only had a set menu but it was all delicious (And even the stuff I personally wasn't keen on was good quality)! I am not a regular when it comes to takeaway Indian food so I came across Westmead via a leaflet…read morethat came through my door. When I received my food I was pleasantly surprised. The food is not as greasy as I've experienced from other takeaway and is delivered exactly when they say it will be. I have a limited tolerance of Indian food and so eat it rarely and usually have similar things so I can only vouch for their chicken dishes, inlcluding the Garlic chicken, the butter chicken and the chicken jalfrezi all of which were flavoursome and tender. Each order usually comes with four free poppadoms with mango chutney, mint raita and onion salad. I bravely ordered the Vindaloo one fateful evening. It isn't the hottest i've eaten but was full of flavour and still packed a punch. Judging by the name I would assume that Westmead only serve Halal meat which makes it suitable for Muslims and non-Muslims, although I can't confirm this. Service is prompt and once you have called once they store your details in an automated phone system so you don;t go through the hassle of describing where you live over and over. Westmead Halal is the only Indian takaway I have used for the last three years.
