We got there right before sundown so we got to look around before it got dark. The gate and entrance are super cute, and we got a glance at the terrace by the gift shop, which looked like a lovely lounge. After introduction and signing of waivers, our guide took us down to the canyon where we got to see so many glow worms! It was really a living galaxy, so special. Similar bugs are only found in Australia or New Zealand, so if you get a chance, try to go check this out. The glow worms appear around April-May and also September-October, so keep an eye for that. Getting reservations is tricky as you gotta call, so you definitely need persistence but it's worth it!

1 star The website…read moresays dogs are welcome, so we drove two hours to Dismal Park on a Thursday morning in late September with ours. We were turned away at the gate. In the parking lot, a woman asked if our dogs were friendly. I don't let strangers pet my dogs, so I said "no," which is my standard answer. That was the whole conversation. She turned out to work the ticket booth. When my husband went in for tickets, staff told him we couldn't enter because our dogs were unfriendly and claimed one had lunged at her. It didn't. That dog is so sociable that our daycare uses him to socialize other dogs. My husband tried to explain, but staff talked over him and wouldn't let him finish a sentence, lecturing him about dog bites and visitors who are afraid of dogs. As a private business, the park is free to turn anyone away. But the lot had three cars in it, and they refused a paying family over a false claim without any interest in hearing our side. We would have spent about $200 on admissions and food. If dogs aren't welcome, or are welcome only after a screening, say so on your website. And if you advertise dogs as welcome, treat the people who bring them like guests. So much for Southern hospitality.

This is great spot to see some of the pre-Columbian history in mound high glory. You can actually climb on a mound and then inside the museum you can learn a great deal more of the history and what was found inside some of the mounds... hint dead things and treasure. This site also clearly provides evidence of the pre-Columbian trade network that existed between Central America, South America and North America. Tip: Quick and easy tour that is well worth a diversion for the experience to learn and actually see some history that lots of folks today just don't seem to know about. Disclaimer: I might have an advanced degree in Anthropology and even though I have actually met Giorgio A. Tsoukalos of Ancient Aliens fame I can make a pretty strong argument that here in Moundville there definitely were NOT any aliens involved in the construction unless they were highly intoxicated aliens with only stone age tech.
