This review is for the event only…read more Fantastic event put on today by the USO. Open only to Active Duty, dependents, or retired military. They brought four USA Olympic swimmers in for the USO Handshake Tour. Swimmers Ryan Lochte, Tyler Clary, Anthony Ervin and Tim Phillips participated in the event. The 4 USA National swimmers conducted a clinic for both children and adult swimmers over two sessions. The swimmers had a blast learning new techniques that will have them race even faster. Kudos to the USO.

You know those little black lane lines on the bottom of the pool in each lane and the cross-hairs or T's at the end of each wall? Apparently, this pool went the camouflaged route and made the lines light gray, almost the color of the floor of the pool. If you're zooming along and not paying attention, the end of the wall can appear a little faster than you'd like for a well-prepped and relaxed flip turn. The pool is very well maintained and deceiving. It was built in the early-mid 60's, but sports an upgraded score board for swim meets.. There is a balcony area for spectators that has bench seating. The balcony is used for any swim meets in the facility and is part of the old area. Locker rooms are available which begins the new section of the building along with the Rec Center. Parking is reserved in the outside lots, however meter parking is also available. The chlorine utilized in the pool is UV, or ultraviolet which is a cleaner type of material than regular chlorine used in most public pools. You will not have the heavy smell of traditional chlorinated pools. During the ODU swim season it is reserved early AM (unsure when they conclude) and weekdays 3-5 PM. Tidewater Aquatic Club (TAC) has the pool reserved on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 5-8 PM. Parking is reserved in the outside lots, however meter parking is also available. I will add photos of the pool another time, I was not allowed to take photo's while TAC had swimmers in the pool. In the Summer the pool is utilized for ODU Swim camps and Big Blue Camps. It has been long speculated that a new pool will be built on campus, at this point there is no time table. However, the area where a new pool would be built is across the street from the current facility most likely. Cross you fingers at some time in the next 5 years ODU will be able to sport a brand new aquatics facility.

We finally went in, and to my surprise it was only $100 for the entire family for the year. We have a family of 5. They are very official with their membership cards and photos of each family member as well. The woman assisting me was very helpful and friendly. The building is a little dated but otherwise an enjoyable experience signing up.

There are additional amenities, such as basketball courts, kiddie pool.& much more. The Pool is open seasonally and is closed on Tuesdays. Built in 1970 the non profit is run by a Pool Board and Volunteers. Neighborhood & Member events are varied and plentiful. Memberships are available at the Individual, Couple and Family Rates with Guest Passes available for purchase by members. There is a Senior Discount. The location is in the Pembroke Meadows neighborhood off Independence Boulevard. Before the Bayside Recreation Center was built it was the swimming choice for many residents of Bayside with children and teens. Parents spent hours t by the pool even though it was well staffed with lifeguards. It was a great place for kids to swim and socialize with their friends. It was fun for parents to meet and socialize on the pool deck, Pembroke Meadows Marlins is the swim team for the Center. It's a great way for kids to learn swim competition and develop their skills in the different strokes. Swim meets were held early in the morning on weekends. The pool is closed during this time. My son developed excellent swim skills during the time period when he was young and we were members. The early morning swim meet times were tough though for this night owl. :) It's hard for many Bayside residents to envision a time before the Bayside Rec Center was built. Pembroke Meadows filled the swimming void during that time. Last year I was watching my son and grandson swimming from the bleachers at the pool. I met a man who was waiting for his Grandson to finish swim team practice. I told him my son had been on the swim team at Pembroke Meadows. He said that his was also. Time had passed. Generations had changed. The kids that swam at Pembroke Meadows then now have children of their own. Thank you Pembroke Meadows Pool & Swim Team for the years of fun. A special thanks go out for the skills my son learned on the swim team. He has passed them on to his son.

The club is very easy to locate, but it is way off the beaten path of Virginia Beach Blvd. Turn onto Little Neck Rd. and travel approximately five miles to the club on the right. There is great signage which will guide you in to their lot. Plenty of parking is available for members. However, on swim meet days, or events it is strained. Overflow has been at the church across the street. Behind the main house is a huge open air grass space for holding out events that could be tented. The pool complex is very nice. As you walk in you will see a guard shack on the left the main building on the right. The clubhouse has a kitchen, a large open air meeting space with fireplace and restrooms. It is nothing fancy whatsoever, but it's well maintained. Smaller type of indoor events could be held here. There is a nice large splash pool for kids in the middle that offers different depths and a mushroom sprinkler. Also included is a small tube curly slide that is a huge hit with the kids. The main pool is rectangular with no bump outs. There are two diving boards, a one meter and a meter and a half spring board. The pool is six lanes 25 meter guttered pool and it's a real beauty. The concrete deck space is massive allowing for very large swim meets to be comfortably held. Little Neck swims in the Dolphin Division of the Virginia Beach Swim Team and goes by the name "Blue Dolphins" They are consistently the largest swim team in the VBSL with over 225 swimmers. You must be a member of the club in order to swim on the team. LN is very good team that wins titles. The officiating crew led by Meet Referee Bill Gill does a great job preparing the pool for dual meets. This is my forth year assisting the team and I have found their volunteers to be accommodating to visitors. The club has always run a first class swim meet and most years host the final championship meet "All-Stars" of the season. Although I cannot vouch for the tennis portion of this club I can tell you the aquatics portion is really top notch and many of the members I know personally friendly. If interested in a tennis/pool club this is one of the nicer one you will find in Virginia Beach.

On Sunday August 2nd 2020 at approx 0800, the course folks allowed a 5 some walking and all employees of the course (or so they said) go in front of everyone, they had no one in front of them, and they refused to let a 2some play through. They had no golf etiquette at all. Very slow and very poor players. the course was backing up badly. with 3 groups behind us and all waiting on the 5some. The course is lacking care the greens are not cut properly and very bumpy the course lacks upkeep. Perhaps the employees should be working and not playing golf!!!!!!!

This is a fun, well maintained course that is very suitable for novices. It's only a 9 hole course,…read morebut they normally have the blue and white tees in different enough locations to keep it interesting if you want to play 18 by going through it twice and switching tees. 6 out of the 9 holes are par 3, including the first hole that is no more than 100 yards. You get most everything on this course that you would want to train to go up to a full size course. Dog leg par 4's, a 200 yard par 3, a green nearly completely surrounded by sand, and a hole that requires you to shoot over water. I shoot in the high 90s on regular courses, so this one is my favorite in the area. I don't give it 5 stars only because I'm not sure how well it would suit a low handicap golfer.
