We went on vacations there but had not planned enough in advance to make those happen. So we were looking for other slot canyon hikes. My husband found this one and it was great. My two boys enjoyed the hike. We went around twice as they enjoyed the slot canyon that much. There are stairs for one of the climbs up, making it pretty easy even for me.

I've been here a few times already and each time I have been here, Ive really enjoyed it. You need to come here early if you want a parking spot and there might be at most 20 spaces available between the eco center and charging lot across the street. When I came here this past weekend at 7am, there were plenty of spots! This place is beautiful and lots of water here so naturally birds will come too. There are also very rare species that call this home, including Belding's Savannah Sparrow (I saw this!) and the Ridgeway Rail (still looking for this one). I think I would enjoy a jog here too, so next time when I am here, Ill try to figure out a jog and bird combo! Definitely come get a dose of nature here, your heart, mind and body will thank you for it!

I am…read morenot sure who discovered or developed this hike, but it felt like, "Hey, let's follow the natural erosion of the land and create a shortcut to Black's Beach from the residences in La Jolla Farms." The number of people who were either barefooted or were wearing flip flops to make this trek really surprised me. I was wearing hiking shoes and was fortunate to only pick up a couple of minor scrapes along the way. The views of the canyons, the bluffs, and the hang gliders overhead were very beautiful so there were plenty of photo opportunities. I felt the hassle to descend towards the beach was not worth the short journey. The path was only about 3/4 mile in distance one way which I completed in about 20 minutes. Trekking poles were not at all useful, and they became a hindrance in a few areas. This was a hike in which you should NOT bring children or dogs. If you have a fear of heights, then you may also want to think twice before trying this trail. There were at least two or three very treacherous spots in which a slip could lead to a nasty fall with a concussion, sprain, fracture, or even death as an outcome. There are many other hiking locations in San Diego County that are more rewarding than the La Jolla Trail.

We came here seeking the suspension bridges and the butterfly garden. The park did not disappoint. Within a couple hours of hiking, we got to see both bridges, a beautiful outlook tower of Encinitas and beyond, as well as the sweet little butterfly garden next to 2 duck ponds. Although we chose to park on the neighborhood streets outside the park, there's plenty of parking inside the park ($5 day fee). There are a couple points of entrances. The lower entrance is nearest the recreational area that has a full basketball, volleyball, and pickleball court. All in all, I would highly recommend this place for a family outing, a hiking adventure, or simply a few hours of relaxing escape away from urban life.

Today we walked a whole loop (my daughter, her college friend, and I to get some exercise before going out to brunch. We admired the view from the Osuna Overlook, walked past workers weeding and trimming the new garden area between the upper and lower parks up top with river rock bordered paths. Looks super nice! My daughter commented that they ought to let local youth paint the rocks--that'd be a cool community event! We proceeded down the paved street that passes by the Scout House, crossed over by the pollinator garden where a kind person pointed out the bat house they placed there (I learned bats are good pollinators and that they need to be protected from raccoons!) Onward to the butterfly garden where I saw a monarch butterfly! We continued to the duck pond at the lowest part of the park where there are picnic areas to be reserved for birthday parties and picnics. We saw a pair of mallard ducks and a solo heron. Spring has sprung! Everything is blooming and the wild creatures are atwitter. Truly a marvelous community park. They even host an annual half marathon here. My brother-in-law and I ran it together in 2012 and it was challenging! Perhaps the biggest challenge being the walk uphill after the race to get to the beer garden lol. I think we ended up not going there and just walking home. Anyway, if you're in the area, check it out! There are several different hiking trails and lots of flora and fauna to admire.

Some reviews erroneously included other trails as this trail and those pictures they posted are incorrect. If Del Mar has a crappy part of town this is probably it. This is a path along the inlet for the lagoon on the back side of the Del Mar fairgrounds. There are some close interactions with the water but there's also riff-raff around here fishing in the bushes. It's not a place I'd feel totally comfortable with the kids as this trail dumps right onto the train tracks. It's a short hike, and there are so many other places to walk around and explore that I wouldn't go out of my way to walk here. The Coast to Crest trail begins not too far from here.
