Indiaah in Pontyclun, is undoubtedly one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever eaten at. I had an inkling that it would rate very highly as I'd already experienced Indiaah through the medium of take-away!
The restaurant exudes the air of a clean, well-kept eatery. The decor and design are not that of a typical Indian restaurant, it all feels heavily Westernised and, I suppose, not very authentic, but this really didn't bother me and certainly didn't influence my experience.
The service was relatively on-the-button, we weren't kept waiting for ridiculous periods of time or left without breathing time in-between courses, something I've had the misfortune of experiencing in other restaurants when visiting mid-week. The staff, in some lights, could be seen as a little abrupt and ever so slightly impolite but this is easily forgotten as soon as the first course arrives. The toilets were absolutely spotless, sparkling in their extreme cleanliness, which is always a great encouragement.
Food-wise, we opted for papadams as a pre-starter and then advanced to Chicken Pakora to share as a starter, which was excellent. The menu is fairly extensive but I have to say that I'm not overly adventurous when it comes to Indian cuisine, so we weren't as diverse as we might have been, choosing the fail-safe yet highly tasty options of Korma, Tandoori Chicken, Butter Chicken, Jalfrezi and Chicken Tikka Masalla. To accompany the curries we went with some garlic nan breads, keema nan breads, pilau rice, boiled rice and special rice, which were all delicious. The portions are very generous and there is definitely no game of hunt the meat to be played. In fact, I was very disappointed at my lacklustre attempt of finishing the meal, I think I managed to eat just half of it! It's sufficient to say we declined dessert on count of being absolutely stuffed!
To summarise, if relaxed dining, clean and airy surroundings, superb food and great value for money is your bag, then this one's for you! read more
