Decent variety of great tasting Indian food, pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. I really enjoyed my visit to India palace. Is there a better Indian restaurant in Duluth? I never found one. read more

India Palace - Indian Near Me - Duluth, Minnesota

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Indian food, it's one of my favorite types of food in the whole wide world!!!! One thing that I love more than indian food...? Indian buffet!!!! Now, I've had authentic Indian food from a previous boss before (YUM) and I've been to SEVERAL authentic Indian restaurants in Chicago (YUM), including an amazing buffet in the Loop. How does this place compare? Well... I can't say it does. It feels more Americanized than anything, especially since several of the workers aren't Indian. The food isn't as spicy or as mesmerizing, to be honest; HOWEVER, the price (unlike my previous experiences) is VERY cheap and the food IS QUITE DELICIOUS. I mean, it's not the best in the world, but I can imagine it being the best that Duluth has to offer. This is an establishment that I will support as long as I am living in Duluth. It's small and charming, and I had no problems (I've read all other reviews). I also believe it is unfair to judge or compare this restaurant to others in bigger cities since it might not necessarily survive if it was truly authentic. I'm just happy Duluth has ONE place like this. PS. The chicken tikki masala isn't the best I've had - I actually preferred all the yellow curries instead. OH and do not skip on the dessert - SO GOOD!!! read more

Great price good food. Buffet is great for a fast economical lunch. Yummy. Wish I could spice it up a little. All in all nice time. read more

India Palace - Indian Near Me - Duluth, Minnesota

Didn't like the food at all. They used too much of artificial color in there curries. The rice which they gave was cold and undercooked. Naan was okay but the curries lacked salt and spices. Ambience was average and there was some particular kind of smell coming though out which was unpleasant. read more

My partner's coworkers told him that he needed to try this Indian buffet out. He's obsessed with Indian food so it basically meant that it was a guarantee we'd go. I was skeptical, however, of an Indian restaurant in Duluth. The city doesn't really scream Indian food. But I love buffets and I wanted to try it nonetheless. My first impression was that it was a lot smaller than I was expecting. I've been to several Indian buffets in Chicago and all of them are relatively big compared to this one. It wasn't bad though. It made the place feel a little cozier and welcoming. The buffet itself looked clean and well stocked. I didn't see any food items out of stock while I was there. So that's definitely a plus since unkempt buffets are a put off. At first glance the food seemed a little lackluster. There wasn't a whole lot of variety, but I didn't let that deter me from going at it. Surprisingly the dish I usually like the most (chicken tikka masala) was my least favorite of them all. It just wasn't creamy. I love the creamy tomato taste of chicken tikka masala but this one was lacking the cream. It was nice chunks of chicken at least. I'm not going to bother attempting to mess up the names of the curries so I'll just describe them. My favorite dish was the spinach with paneer. I typically love spinach dishes like that so that was a given. They had little fried potato patties, which while simple was pretty tasty when you dipped it in the curry sauces. There were two yellow curries, one all vegetable and the other with what seemed like a veggie patty in it. I enjoyed both of them, and the lentil curry was tasty as well. Even though some people complained about it in their reviews, I enjoyed the meatballs. They tasted like those party meatballs people marinade in bbq sauce, but with tomato sauce instead. I know they were probably cheap meatballs, but hey, I liked them. The waitress was attentive and constantly filled my water when I needed it. The price was very reasonable and I would argue cheap. I really did enjoy this buffet and was glad that it was recommended. While it might not compare to Chicago Indian buffets, that's ok because it was still tasty. I'll definitely be coming back despite all the negative reviews. read more

I've been to a few Indian Buffets throughout the Midwest and this is by far my least favorite. The food is very bland and "Minnesota Hot" meaning not at all. The options in the buffet were very limited and left me unsatisfied. Very disappointed that the restaurant sacrificed authenticity in exchange for toning down the spices to appease the Minnesotans read more

The best restaurant in Duluth hands down. They have the best lunch buffet & soooo many options for dinner. Me and my boyfriend's favorite place to go for lunch. read more

India Palace is one of the best places to eat downtown. It's not an overly fancy place, but the food and service are both great. The dining room isn't super large, so at peak times it can feel a little bit crowded, but I have NEVER had to wait to be seated. The lunch buffet is the best value for your money, but the food served isn't super varied. It would be nice if the line had different options more often to keep it fresh. That being said, the buffet is delicious, kept warm, and is replenished often. The dinner menu is extensive and you can order your food to your preferred spice level. As a vegetarian I have no problem finding something to eat here, but I can also bring my meat eating family. If you're into Indian food, or are curious about trying it out I highly suggest you give India Palace a try! read more

Considering this is the only Indian place in duluth, and the pretty bad (albeit outdated & mostly about the buffet) reviews here, I was pleasantly surprised. The menu is typical northern Indian fare. We're mostly vegetarian - had baingan bharta (smokey, creamy given that there's no cream- quite good), dal (oddily orange but also good), and the channa masala (pretty good, my husband & 2 yo's favorite), plus onion naan. Came w basmati. I think everyone else was having the lunch buffet- which had a few veggie options (veg korma, saag paneer, tofu jhalfrezi). Price was a bit but since there isn't a lunch menu given the buffet, it seemed typical for duluth ethnic restaurants.... Ordered medium spice (waiter seemed surprised)- it was pretty mild for Indian medium but definitely had a little (little) kick. Probably about my 2 yo's threshold. We'll be back. read more

Food dudes now has delivery for the India Palace. I didn't think that it could get any better :) "Hot" spiciness level is pretty good, but I think I'll ask for "extra hot" just to see the difference next time. read more

Service was fine. Food was below average. Ordered a chicken dish - chicken was hard, like stale. Garlic naan was flavor less. Onion kulcha had dry fried onion from a name brand. read more

Great Indian food, staff was friendly, and the service was great. The chicken Marsala was on point as well as the Naan. The prices were adequate to the servings. Our party was completely satisfied with our experience. read more

So I've been getting takeout for years from India Palace, and last night I ordered my usual except I noticed they've switched the rice containers to the ones used at Chinese restaurants. I asked for more rice and was told it would be more money which I did not do since my bill was almost $40. When I got home, I opened the rice container and it was 3/4 full and loosely packed, so now today I will have to make rice for my leftovers. I guess I'll save my Indian cravings for Minneapolis where they aren't so stingy with rice and overpriced. Done with you India Palace. read more

always slaps so hard. fire. magnificent. i'd eat here every day if i could afford to.

Dinner was so-so. The food was generally tasty, but there was no wow factor. The spices were typical for the dishes we ordered. The portion sizes were laughable considering the price. read more

This place has been consistently delicious my 4 years living in Duluth. Just stopped for likely my last time in a while as I'm moving but all the sauces were totally on, the meat was tender and the place was very clean. My only wish is they still served the onion chutney! read more

I have no idea what these other people are talking about. This place is terrible. I went for the lunch buffet and tried every dish available. They were all either bad or kinda bad. They had one dish that seemed to be those simek's meatballs you buy frozen at the grocery store. They were in, what seemed to be a can of tomato sauce with garam masala added. Also everything seemed really sweet. The chicken makhani was the least bad thing. It also was bland and sweet but not as much so as the other dishes. We are from Minneapolis where there are some pretty legit Indian spots. It's not like it's f$#king Mumbai but it's better than those meatballs. read more

Absolutely delicious food. Come here all the time and always wonderful service and quality food. The workers are all very friendly and recognize me by name now. Wonderful tasty vegetarian options as well! Would highly recommend it, absolutely some of the best food in Duluth. read more

Okay, India Palace still gets four stars because the food is great, and we are in a solid, long-term relationship that can withstand any hurdles life might throw in our way. However, read on for APPALLING behavior on the part of its customers! I went here with my mommy last night. We got aloo gobi and.....baignan bartha? Anyway, the delicious, creamy one with the smoked eggplant. Sooooo good. We got naan (my mom is doing dairy-free right now, they were cool and made her some naan without butter) which was so deliciously chewy and fluffy....the stuff on the lunch buffet tends to get kind of crispy and tough after a while. And I feel like they read my last review, because I ordered medium spicy and it was back to being nice and hot! It was actually really busy for a Tuesday night! (But maybe people were just out for a last bit of civilization before today's blizzard?) There was a table right next to us with a two year old, and her grandfather fed her using the "airplane" method for literally a solid half hour....REALLY LOUDLY. I get it, kids can be picky, but....please ease up on the throttle? Your airplane fly-by's are ruining my dinner. I usually love to watch cute kids in restaurants, even if they're making some occasional noise, but....I don't like to have a man buzzing his lips nonstop, as loud as possible, three feet away from me. Okay, but that's kind of excusable...or I mean, I can at least wrap my head around it. It's not too egregious. The thing that blew my mind was that this family of four came in, the mother sat on one side of the table, and the dad and kids (about 12 and 13 years old) sat on the other, and he opened up his laptop and they STARTED WATCHING A MOVIE WITH THE SOUND ON IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RESTAURANT. What. The. Flying. Frig? This is not Starbucks. This is a restaurant. The cook came out and started making hand gestures at the guy, I guess trying to let him know he should close his laptop, and the guy just smiled back at him and started making hand gestures back at him....like it was a joke? And he didn't close his laptop. I was just getting up to leave, so I went and said something to him very politely, and he....just didn't say a word. He just kept the same smile on his face and looked down at his hands. I feel sorry for his family. I hope his kids don't take lessons from him. The waiter stood by during all of this and didn't do anything. I couldn't believe it. I mean, I know everyone's Minnesota nice and they don't want to say anything to him, but COME ON. What about being Minnesota nice to your customers and not letting some jackass turn this place into a McDonald's? Unbelievable. read more

THIS PLACE IS A HEALTH HAZARD. We were served with foods having plastics. Food quality was terrible so as the owner. When we asked him about the plastic and the food quality he didn't give enough importance. He simply asked us to pay and leave. If you are concerned about your health avoid this place. read more

Best Indian food in Duluth. Love this place! The Bergey is always changing and satisfying. Chicken Shahi korma is my go to fish and they do an amazing job with it. Love the naan here too, properly made, isn't just unleavened bread lol! read more

I read previous reviews and had to write my own. They are not realistic. No I don't have ANY relatioinship to ownership. Don't even know who they are. Our family is huge fans of Indian Food. This started when we lived in Great Britain about 15 years ago. Atmoshphere gets a d+ but we're all about the food quality. The food at India Palace is fabulous when you find your dishes. I like my Bangin Baratha creamy but they leave the onions a bit crunchy. Personal taste but I sure don't fault them for that and I still order it regularly. All the other dishes I have there are some of the best I've had. If the portions are too small for you, you have portion distortion. My wife and I will share a meal or save a portion for lunch. No way this is too small for a single person. The other issue is Buffet. If you want to feed, have the buffet. If you want to eat/dine order off the menu to your taste. This is common sense for all diners and all restaurants. Favorites of ours; Vindaloo(spicy), Navratan Korma(creamy), Malai Kofta(vegetarian) read more

Checked out today India Palace. I had the butter chicken with garlic naan bread. Positive experience in general. Food overall was good, rice was meh. Service was friendly but a bit slow. I'll definitely come again to try the other dishes, such a shame there's only one Indian restaurant in town. read more

I think this is one of the best Indian restaurants in the state. They tend for more northern style Indian food with various kormas and other curries and naan starring here! As with most Indian restaurants, skip the buffet. read more

Read the few poor reviews on this place, but I really enjoy Indian food and took a chance anyways. For dinner, I ordered pretty standard naan, a tikka masala plus basmati rice, spicy level hot. I thought it was quite good, plentiful potions, and quick service. I typically eat Indian food wherever I travel, both internationally and within the US and I think this place is pretty good. Maybe it's just the lunch buffet meant to serve masses that isn't so good. read more

Decent Indian food but a bit Americanized. It's MN though, so didn't expect much more. Big portions.

Extremely unprofessional service. They used FoodDudes for delivery, who are awesome, but I guess now they went cheap and use BiteSquad, which is simply terrible. They accept orders and keep increasing the delivery time in 20-30 minute increments. The person on the phone at the restaurant doesn't understand English very well, and perhaps thats the issue. Should have read the reviews before ordering from them. read more

I am from India, but now in Minneapolis, MN for last 10 years. I do not go out to Indian restraunts because 1) I know that they put baking soda ot make gravy thick and heavy 2) Quality of raw material used and cleaniness of kitchen is highly questionable (I know this bacause wife is in Public Health closely working with food inspectors). However, on a weekend visit to Duluth, couple of friends wanted to eat indian food so we went to this place. For starters, we ordered Chicken Pakora. What we got was horrible. It seems Chef had no idea what chicken pakora is. This is what he had done: a) Got frozen boneless chicken b) dip it in gram flour paste c) fry it and keep it out to cool off d) microwave and serve when ordered. There was no marination of chicken, no salt/spice/flavor in gram flour paste and microwave did not heat is properly as chiceck inside was cold. Stupid food. When I asked what it is as there is no flavor and spice, manager was very rude. He was like that is how we make it. My response was then you should close the restraunt because you don't know how to make it and have no idea about flavors. I expected that he would politely say that sorry you didn't like, but there are other items which I can recommend you based on the kind of indian flavors you are looking for. We were a group of 10 and immediately left leaving untouched starters on the table. It is better to be hungry than eat this kind of food. My recommendation: Never go to India Palace in Duluth. read more

Table service was fair minus the many attempts made to ask if we were finished with our meals which made it feel like you were rushed to leave. The food was decent not too spicy which was shocking for an Indian restaurant however, spices in the food could have been a little more spread out because one part of your dish had no spice while the other side was over spiced. Not the best Indian cuisine restaurant I have ever experienced but nothing that put red flags up saying to stay away. Perhaps a second chance on another visit to this part of Minnesota someday? read more

Amazing lunch buffet. Good combinations of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Very friendly staffs. Would love to visit this place again.

This is one of my favorite places in Duluth to get food. They have a phenomenal lunch buffet with a great range of choices that definitely will get you full. Seriously everyone needs to go here because it is so good and I'm so obsessed. I love this place so much I would eat here every day if I could. read more

Duluth's hidden gem! The food is so authentic! You can smell the spices as you walk in the door. I ordered the lamb curry with garlic naan bread along with Indian chai tea, which I'm now obsessed with! One thing I must say is that their levels of spiciness are way off. I ordered the lamb curry in medium spice and it was more like a mild when I tried it. Next time I will order hot and hopefully that will have a kick. read more

Customer service is poor and the food has declined as well over the years. We received the wrong take out order and they said we could only return the food if we hadn't touched it with our fingers! What? Are you going to serve it to someone else if we haven't? Who wants food that someone else may or may not have touched. We hadn't touched it but gross to even ask a question like that. You messed up, not us. Huge hassle over getting the correct food as well. read more

Ate here a couple of times. Lunch buffet on both occassions. Food was reasonably tasty. Vegetarian choices as expected in an indian restaurant. Nothing great to write home about. But, was happy to get Indian food in Duluth. read more

Best chicken khorma I've ever had. Perfect naan. Nothing especially challenging or unusual on the menu, but it's all note-perfect northern Indian comfort food. read more

Delicious Indian food! I know a lot of elitist hipster know it alls will say otherwise, however excellent flavors, excellent lunch buffet. The tandoori chicken is cooked to perfection, meat falls off bone. I personally think their meatballs are delicious. Stack it on top of jasmine rice, slap some naan bread on top, pinch and devour! read more

I live in North Central MN and have lived all around the country. As restaurant Indian food goes, it is on par with most places I have eaten; except the restaurants in the East Village; hard to beat them! The food is spicy enough for most Minnesotans, though next time I am going to ask if they can bump it up a notch. We ordered off the menu since the buffet was pretty bare when we got there just about the time they were closing it down. Not to bad for Northern MN., I have had better; but this is pretty good for this part of the world. I will definitely go back again. I am glad I found a good restaurant so I don't always have to cook my own indian food! 200% better than the one in Fargo. read more

Just tried this last week with some friends. It was so delicious, I dragged my wife and kids there two days later! Wow. I'm not a connoisseur of Indian food, so I really can't compare it to other similar places, but I will say that the flavors and textures were off-the-charts delicious! I'm planning to return for the lunch buffet as many times this week as I can. Oh, and my doctor recommended this place as well, as far as someplace with healthy food. read more

This place isn't bad by any means it's just not the quality of Indian food I crave. I wouldn't hurry back and would probably cook my own Indian food next time I have the craving. The naan wasn't even buttery garlic naan! Three stars because service was great, price was right, and buffet had decent variety. read more

For a lunch buffet, this place is pretty good. I have now been here a few times (including today) and we have always been greeted promptly, had efficient service (water/utensils brought right away, the bill was given to us and taken care of quickly, and the water is refilled often) and there is always fresh food in the buffet. The food itself is average. Nothing is particularly great, but it is all good enough and it is consistent. If you are in need of an Indian fix in Duluth, this will certainly do the trick. It is also a reliable place to have a quick lunch if you are pressed for time. read more
