Yes, the restaurant was busy but were kept waiting to order drinks and poppadums. Normally when the poppadums arrive your order is taken for your main course. No, he just left. We had to ask another waiter for plates as none were on the table. The staff we noticed all had sullen looks no one appeared happy. We finished our poppadums' and waited for someone to take our order, even though our menus were still on the table, no one came. Finally, we managed to 'catch' a waiter's eye and our order was taken around 8.50. Whilst waiting for our main course to arrive, we noticed that two other couples who had arrived and been seated after us were already eating their main course and several other customers who had order takeaways at the desk after our arrival, had received their orders and left. Finally at 9.20 pm we managed to collar the Manager, Masud, to ask how much longer. He disappeared and came back and said 2 mins -he didn't apologise, but we assumed they had forgotten us! As the couple next to us left having paid their bill they said 'we hope your food arrives soon' - it comes to something when other diners notice someone else's lack of service! We waited a further 5mins - nothing arrived so we voted with our feet and left. There was nothing to say what the quality of the food we order would have been like given that it was probably 'thrown together' as we had obviously been forgotten. The staff appeared not to care and the manager wasn't doing a very good job of managing and given that the 'Chef of the Year Award' was proudly displayed on the front desk, he was probably the only person who was working hard!

Went along with friends to Amani on the recommendation of their builder.usually a good start…read more The place looked good from the outside although a little out of place on this Hamsey Green street, purely because it was quite chic sitting between the local card shop and Co-op over the road. But that's just a small point and perhaps their existance will add the boost which the area needs. The greeting was warm, friendly and attentive from the staff and although the place was only half full it still felt buzzy and the aroma from the kitchen was delicious. The choices of dish for each course all looked yummy and I had difficulty coming to my final decision for starter and main. I'm pleased to say as much as it looked appetizing on the menu, the flavour when it arrived delivered over and above my expectations - Delicious! Highly recommended!!

Clearly a lot of thought has gone into it, and it ends up looking more like a modern European restaurant than an identi-kit Indian joint. The service is what you would expect from an up-market establishment - professional and attentive. However, it's the food that sets this place apart. The house menu is not the normal list of madras and jalfrezi. Again, it reads more like a European a la carte menu, with the chef's own take on popular asian dishes. We've been a couple of times and tried a few different things, and all of them have been exquisite. Perfectly cooked, very tasty, really something else. Whilst the prices in here are higher than most (between £10-14 for a main course) it is well worth it for an occasion. p.s. there is also a standard Indian-takeaway menu for people who like to stick to their favourites.
