Sharon, if we are trying to be accurate here, then let's be accurate. When the first care giver did not show up, your office did not call my sister or me. Instead, my sister had to call your agency to ask where the caregiver was. I did not call you and demand anything. I know no one heard the last person who showed up at 8 am because I spoke to my mom and she told me she did not hear the knock. When she went outside to check, the person was gone. It's disappointing that someone who is in the business of care taking would spend so much time and effort trying to spin your version of the story to try to make yourself look better instead of being more concerned with the fact that your employees went into the home of an elderly couple to watch tv and play on their phones instead of taking care of their charge. read more

My mom has been receiving in home care for 5 years now with Independence Assistance and she absolutely love's Vickie and Yvonne. They are very attentive, caring and patient. We wouldn't trade them for the world!! The owner Sharon is also very caring and compassionate and knows how important it is to give her clients and their family members quality care and peace of mind. If I have any questions or concerns, she will personally call me to discuss them with a satisfactory resolution. My direct experience in the care of my family members was exceptional. Staff was customer centric, very attentive and was able to adapt to the varying needs of my loved one as needed. Note: This review is my opinion. This organization's manager, Sharon, is unprofessional in her approach to customer service. They were given the contract with Innovage to provide care for my father. However, they never told us when care would start until someone showed up at the door to start service. Any discussion that did not go Sharon's way seemed to result in her ignoring me or bullying me. She appeared to make up lies to support her position, and appeared vindictive in her actions. Many of these actions caused extensive grief and additional work to my 85 year old mother and myself. In our opinion, unqualified staff was sent, and when one was unsafe in handling my father on a Saturday of a holiday weekend, Sharon did not return the the text or call of concern. Instead, she texted back she would talk to me after the holiday weekend on Tuesday after 9 am. I had to escalate the problem to ensure this caregiver did not return. She made up additional lies to tell Innovage to defend her position. I finally asked to have to have my father reassigned to another Home Care Agency. The only reason they got any stars at all was the caregivers were mostly good and caring. However, the caregivers didn't have much good to say about Sharon or her practices. Be careful of their billing practices as well. Document any conversations or transactions. Even when presented with her lies, it is my experience she lies more to cover them up. There are better options. Avoid this one. read more

This organization has been one of the worst I have had to experience in the care for my 80 year old mother. Innovage needs to audit their clients to find out that this organization cares about no one but how many clients they can get to in order to make money. There is absolutely no communication when changing caregivers' schedules. Instead of calling to inform me of a change in the schedule with less than 24 hours notice, I receive an email with a thank you for understanding. It happened once too many times. I wish I had researched the reviews on this place because I would have changed agencies immediately. The office staff at this agency is very rude and unprofessional. If you really want quality care and customer service, this is not the agency you will receive it from. There are better options out there. Please avoid this agency. read more

I just gave a recommendation to a friend about Independence Assistance and it occurred to me to see if they had a Yelp profile. I was very fortunate that my family was able to engage the services of home health aides for my elderly Mother. My Mother lived alone and was growing frail and refused to move. She was no longer able to manage her medication, her nutrition was suffering, and she was very lonely despite daily visits from friends and family. We had gone past the point where it was safe for my Mother to live alone. I interviewed 4 firms. What impressed me about Independence Assistance was that they had specific strategies and policies they could refer to, plus, when I finally engaged them, their contract also evidenced their experience and acumen in outlining aspects of our professional relationship in such a way as to prevent confusion or awkwardness. Originally they came in three times a week for 3 hours a shift. My Mother hated it for the first few weeks but soon she truly came to love the helpers. Later, as she became more frail, we ramped up their hours until we eventually had round the clock care, which was not as expensive as one would think. They cared for my mother for about a year and a half in my Mother's home . I had total confidence in them. I feel great affection for the helpers and their manager. They seem to cover a large region of Southern California and I think what they do is find Certified Nursing Assistants where needed, and then hire them, and you get the advantage of the firm's experience, insurance and bonding. They are not a placement service and you cannot hire the helper directly. Another advantage of a firm versus a single caregiver is that a firm is able to respond to emergencies and increase resources, as needed. read more

I have been employed with this company for a short time but I can honestly say that in my 34 years of work history, I have never felt more appreciated doing something I love. All of the office staff are professional, caring and have an outstanding line of communication. I suggest do your research. This place operates a clumsy business. I don't even know where to start. The "straw that broke the camels back" was a conversation regarding my mother's invoice (this conversation was with "K". She identified herself as "the Administrator"). I use the term Administrator because "K"identified herself as the Administrator when she is--in fact--not). We received an invoice that was ill-prepared (a credit was in the line-item; however, was not entered in the bottom section for "credits and payments"). I asked for a revision (which was sent the next day). I called and let "K" know that I'd be making payment by check this weekend by check. She said "ok". The next day services were suspended and I received a text from "S" asking that they receive payment by that afternoon or services will be suspended. This was due to our "payment history". Our payment history? I asked for an extension on one payment; we've never not paid them. Bigger point... service was already suspended. "S" said that a check wouldn't be acceptable (even though that's how we've always paid. Historically we paid by check and followed up by sending a confirmation from Bank of America. For some reason my mother's bank card didn't work with Independence Assistance. I was pretty bothered so I called and asked for "K" (remember she identified herself as the administrator). She denied telling me that it would be "ok" that we paid by check. I asked if they recorded their conversations .... she chuckled and said (and I quote) "no, do you". As far as Caregivers - Scheduling: they send different caregivers (seemingly on a daily basis) until they're able to dial in a schedule. This is not that big of a deal; I know they're trying to accommodate their clients schedules. Other Issues: one caregiver rinsed dishes in grey water, another was playing "Candy Crush" on her tablet (with earphones in) at the dining room table. Recently Safety: I gave very strict instructions that my Mother was to do transfers only (by Kaisers orders) and my mother fell because she insisted on walking. I understand caregivers cannot interfere with free-will; however, I asked "S" for their most experienced, available caregiver. An experienced caregiver (as I asked for) adhering to strict instructions would have certainly better handle that situation. I trusted "S" (as she asked). And one last thing. When my mother fell I called "S". We had a conversation regarding my request not being met (mind you, my mother just fell). She reminded me that there's a learning curve. She gave the analogy of my brother going to Chef school. I said "with all due respect "S" that's an awful analogy. There is no learning curve for a caregiver. Especially when I asked for the most experienced caregiver available. read more

I am a single mom with a demanding job. When my two sons became ill, I reached out to Independence to find a caregiver that I could trust. Sharon and her team were very accommodating and whipped into action so I wouldn't lose any time at work. She found me the best caregiver who I was able to interview that night and hire for the next morning. The caregiver was excellent and everything I could have hoped for.
