This center will always hold a special place in my heart. Once my youngest began attending at the age of 1....never attending a daycare previously...cried every day for 1 month when I dropped her off (as Katie mentioned was completely normal), I still knew that she was in amazing hands. Exactly 1 month later, as Katie had mentioned, she stopped crying, jumping out of my hands to run to her favorite caregiver at the time. I really enjoyed the parental communication system through HiMama. The reports were always very detailed regarding my children's day-to-day activities. If medicine was required to be given to my children, they would indicate the time it was given. It was a big help for me to see photos and detailed reports on my children. It made me feel like I was right there with them. I knew I could always trust the staff to take care of my children. However, the biggest impact for me concerned my oldest child. I cannot thank Regina, Rachel and Erin enough for what they provided for my daughter. My oldest has special needs. I did not know this right away. 2 years into the future, before she began kindergarten, my daughter received an Autism diagnosis. Yet, prior to that diagnosis, I quickly noticed that several staff here were very well-trained and knowledgeable of interacting with and caring for children with special needs. Most daycares honestly have NO IDEA what to do with special needs children. Yet SMART Beginnings knows EXACTLY what to do. When my daughters' behavior reached maximum intensity, Regina contacted me right away to explain in detail what was going on. I asked her what she recommended. She mentioned behavior counseling and referred me to someone she personally knew locally. With Regina's extensive background in Education, as well as her extensive experience in working with special needs children as a former educator, she created my daughter's first ever B.I.P. (Behavior Intervention Plan). It was a major rollercoaster and learning experience leading up to my daughter's first diagnosis, as well as after the diagnosis. Flash forward to the present, she currently has diagnosis spanning from Autism, ADHD, ODD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Yet I always knew that this daycare would be the ONLY daycare that I would truly feel comfortable leaving my special needs child in..... all because of the extensive knowledge, skill and background of the Director, Mrs. Regina, and the other staff. Also, just to add, when COVID began and most daycares shut down temporarily due to the outbreak, SMART Beginnings was LITERALLLY the only daycare in Ocean Springs that managed to stay open during the entire epidemic, implementing detailed instructions on how to manage the pandemic within the center in order to keep the staff and the children as safe as possible. I believe this speaks volumes about this center! So, in closing, this is why SMART Beginnings will always have a special place in my heart. They showed me how much they truly loved and cared about my children. They helped form a solid foundation of attempting to understand my daughter's needs, her struggles and her triggers, to develop a plan to best support her. The only reason why my kids' attendance ceased is because I had to move to Gautier. If we never moved, my girls would still be there in afterschool care.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO KID ACADEMY IN GULFPORT ON PASS ROAD!!!…read more PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ!! I am at a loss of words. My heart is shattered. Yesterday I dropped Poppy off for her FIRST AND LAST DAY at this daycare. I took her in at 7:30AM, unpacked her diapers and wipes, got her cubby set up, got her situated, made her feel as comfortable as possible, and trusted that this facility would keep our daughter safe. As most children, she cried when I left. Queue the heartbreak already. So I called during my lunch to check on her at 12:05PM. From there I was told she was sleeping, had calmed down shortly after I left, and was sleeping on her mat. Great!! She was sleeping! I walked in to pick her up at 3:06PM. A worker who worked in the room next to hers was holding her. I asked how her day went, she said she was fine, and she did have to let her "cry it out because she had other children to attend to." She handed me her paper log, I asked what do I need to take home for the day, grabbed the belongings, picked up Poppy, and left. We get home, I go to change her diaper..and see this. A large bruise on her privates, and a large bruise on her leg. Both of which align perfectly with a finger print and a thumb print. (in my opinion) Fast forward after the many calls, texts and chaos that occurred, we take her to the ER to verify nothing internal had happened, and documentation. Luckily, the scans showed nothing. Praise God. However, the word "force" was used from the Doctor who saw us, and hearing that word used against a baby makes you sick to your stomach. In between this, I spoke with the Executive Director Matt Dickens and a woman named Jennifer. Who informed me the worker will be placed on leave while they conduct their investigation. And that they will be reviewing the cameras to see what happened. And will give me a call after their investigation to update me. HOW DOES A BRUISE, LET ALONE THAT LARGE GET ON A CHILDS PRIVATES?? WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING! We have filed a CPS Report against this daycare. We have filed a police report against this daycare. We have contacted the Better Business Bureau. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!!! Please please please, do not send your child here! She was in their care for less than 8 hours for one day. God knows what's actually happening there and being missed.

This was our first & last time using this camp. I wish I had seen these reviews before registering…read moremy child. First, I was told multiple times staff would be required to be 18+ but I could see on the first day that was a lie as they're all young and inexperienced -- and it showed. Communication was a real issue: when I asked counselors how my daughter's day went, I was repeatedly told they weren't allowed to tell me. She was injured multiple times with no call home, and when I asked how she got a bruise, I got no answer. But I did get a call when she walked to the bathroom without checking in first. The camp's own "levels of support" guide seems to reflect this: a tantrum warrants a call, but a bloody injury apparently doesn't. Food was also rough, breakfast was often just powdered donuts, and "nachos" were literally a bag of Doritos with cheese dumped on top. They literally just give the kids sugar all day. Staff tone was often passive-aggressive including the director. Overall for over $200 a week I expected better. This camp is pure ghetto and I don't recommend.

This summer, I decided to try something new and enroll my 9 and 5-year-old sons in summer camp for…read morethe very first time. They attended Kidcam Camp in Slidell for about 2.5 weeks. While I had high hopes for the experience, unfortunately, our time with the camp was overwhelmingly negative and left me with serious concerns about the safety, attentiveness, and communication of the staff. During the second week, I arrived at aftercare to find my 5-year-old sitting shirtless at a table, completely unresponsive, with his head down. My 9-year-old was at a different table. They were the only children left, and there were two counselors present--Jill and a teenage staffer. Jill casually mentioned that my younger son didn't want to put his shirt on because he was hot and had been repeatedly asking when I was coming. But something felt off. When I reached him, I realized he was foaming at the mouth, eyes rolling back--he was having a seizure. I screamed for them to call 911, and he was rushed to the hospital. I still can't understand how a counselor could miss the signs of a 5-year-old in distress. Why wasn't I contacted when he kept asking for me? Why didn't anyone notice the seizure before I arrived? Despite this terrifying event, I allowed the kids to return the following week because I didn't want to take the experience away from them. I believed it was not the camp's fault he got sick--but a clear lapse in attentiveness. Then, another issue arose. My 9-year-old confided that while on a movie field trip, another camper threw a drink and popcorn on him and his brother. I was never notified. When I brought this up with Jill the next morning, she acknowledged it happened, but I was extremely upset that no one thought to inform me. Later that same day, I received a call from a staff member I had never met, asking me to pick my son up due to an "incident." When I arrived, I was told my son had hit another child and that the director and Jill decided he should not return to camp. There was no conversation, no opportunity to understand his side, and no communication from the actual camp director. This sudden decision, paired with the timing, felt more like retaliation than genuine concern--especially considering how I had challenged their communication that same morning. My son has no history of behavioral issues--he was awarded a "Good Citizen" award just last school year. To be abruptly dismissed without any real discussion was both hurtful and unprofessional. While I did receive a refund for the remaining week, the emotional impact and disappointment linger. From a lack of supervision during a medical emergency to poor communication and questionable disciplinary decisions, my experience with Kidcam Slidell left me with more worry than trust. I hope this review encourages the leadership to take a deeper look at how children are supervised and how parents are communicated with. Every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and heard--and unfortunately, mine did not. Jill is sensitive and unprofessional.
