We were staying in a motel until we found a place to rent, well, no one in Dubuque will rent to anyone with a pet. We have a small 10# dog that has been a part of our family for 13 years. When we realized our money was quickly being drained because of the unlengthy stay at the motel, we contacted Catholic Charities. They did have a place for us to stay but as soon as I mentioned my dog, he said, "OH, we don't allow pets". I then told him how we were going to be homeless if we didn't get into something now and he offered no suggestions or empathy. I was in disbeliefe! What is wrong with these people?? Because you have ONE bad experience with someone's pet, you shun a family away that is reaching out to you for help! Then when we turned to our parish, they didn't have anything available right now, and also did not offer any recommendations or assistance. You will take in foriegn exchange students and priests from another country into your home that you never even met, but not a family in need of some human compassion!

Not everyone is a veteran, and some of the veterans are women. Some of the people are relatives or friends that volunteer and/or donate. They receive zero zero zero govt funding. Some of it is an escape, a wood shop, and a craft center, to occupy crowded minds (therapy, or to be productive), a card game of euchre, pool or shuffleboard. I only wish more citys had a area for Vets like this.

I rented the temple on December 25th for my family to celebrate Christmas. upon showing up that day the build was a complete disaster. So i reached out to Bob (the guy who set up my rental time) who informed me he would return my money due to the condition and having to sweep and mop the floors. After being avoided for 3 weeks I get a text message (not a phone call) telling me there will be no refund and that I should reach out to Dave to talk about the matter after being rudely talked to, advised that at the member rate the room was not to be cleaned prior, and than hung up on. I"m more than okay with that if the room looked as if it was used within the last few days. Seeing how Bob showed up to the building and told me in person he would refund my money due to the room having gum and other stuff stuck to the floor and that it had not properly been cleaned in several weeks I personally had to mop both the dinning hull, the lobby, and the staircase. Being prior Demolay and seeing the way the building was kept back then and have reached out several times about joining the Masonic Lodge. Only to be ignored and blow off. It is a great let down to have grown up seeing the building falling apart and that the lodge has gone to shit.
