The…read moretraditional version of lokma is a dough batter which is deep fried in oil and then left to sit in simple syrup and dusted with sugar and cinnamon. In my 20 years of coming to Turkey I've never quite seen something which is offered at Lokmaçatı. They've taken the traditional Turkish lokma and transformed it for the modern century, hence their slogan "Eski Köye Yeni Lokma" which translates to "To the old town, new lokma". Not going to lie, I had decision paralysis when presented with all the menu options. They let you fill the lokma with different cream fillings, on top you have the option to drizzle four different types of chocolates (dark, milk, white, berry), and there are a few toppings you can put on top- very similar to what you'd see at a froyo establishment. Each portion comes with eight lokmas. I opted for one of their premade combos the "Easy Lokma" which set me back 25 liras which I thought to be slightly expensive since you can usually get traditional lokmas from street vendors for 5-10 liras. The restaurant itself is located in central Alacati which makes it ideal for sitting and people watching at night. The lokma offered were delicious, though I do prefer the traditional preparation of lokma (call me old fashioned!). This place is definitely worth a visit to try the lokma, but if this is your first time in Turkey I would definitely also recommend trying out the traditional preparation first!

The ambiance is also wonderful as you can sit inside or out and have a view over the square watching people walk through the markets or play. We came for an afternoon drink then again for dinner because it was such a great spot. Kids played in the square with other kids they met there while we enjoyed the most delightful salad of greens, avocado, orange, strawberry walnut and feta. The flat white coffee was very nicely done and chocolate cake right on the mark with a dark chocolate flavor that's not overly sweet.

Rumeli is located on the main drag of downtown Çeşme and is more of a stall than a shop like Veli or Reyhan. Of the three I personally think Rumeli has the best Pistachio ice cream, hands down no contest. During our visit we found the service helpful and prompt and adored our cone. All in all, if you're looking for the best Pistachio ice cream in town, look no further.

Veli Usta is one of the three famous ice cream spots in Çeşme…read more I tried the mango (which didn't taste as full bodied as I expected), their mastic (which I enjoyed much more than Reyhan's version), and their blackberry (which was incredibly rich and unmatched in flavor). I will say that I overall prefer Veli Usta because I find their ice cream to be softer. It doesn't freeze as hard as Reyhan's so it's easier to scoop. Their mastic is also richer than Reyhan's although Reyhan's ice cream box is a bit more insulated and nicer. All in all, if you're in Çeşme, Veli Usta is not to be missed, especially if you like strong ice cream flavors.

I came here on a Thursday night and the restaurant was pretty packed, so packed that the servers didn't notice that we had sat down and were waiting for menus! After waiting for about 8 minutes I finally managed to flag one of the servers down for a menu. I ordered the tavuk gogsu (chicken breast) with gum icecream and an asure. Both desserts were decidedly "ok", I think that Ozsut has lost a bit of its small-restaurant charm and taste when it decided to become a national chain. Personally I'd prefer to get my local sweets at Imren in Alacati which is what I'll do next time! The benefit of this location is that it's decidedly larger than any of the smaller mom and pop spots in Alacati so there's usually room to sit down and order a dessert- even during the busy summer season!

Reyhan is one of the more famous ice cream shops in the area…read more When you enter they have a large outdoor seating area and you pull up the menu via QR code and order from the waiter. The ice cream comes out in a glass dish with a small cone on top. Additionally, you can order to-go from the indoor register and pick up the scoops in a styrofoam container or cup/cone from the fridge near the entrance. I think my favorite flavor was the mastic (sakızı) with a close second being the pistachio, but I also really enjoyed the coffee flavor. The service was helpful and prompt and all in all we loved our visit!

Veli Usta has been around Cesme for over 20 years and has stood the test of time. 10 years ago…read moretheir only location was in Ilica and I have fond memories as a child of begging my father to drive me over to the next town just so I could have ice cream from Veli Usta which I had declared the best ice cream I had ever had. Fast forward to 2012 and Veli Usta has opened up a second location in the heart of Alacati. If you look at Alacati today it is littered with ice cream shops. I would reocmend skipping the majority of those shops and coming to Veli Usta to get an authentic Turkish icecream which is made with sakiz- mastic gum (I promise it tastes better than it sounds!). You can get gelato back in the states but you won't find authentic Turkish icecream! Over time I've pretty much sampled each icecream flavor here and each is as delicious and sweet as the next. I'd recomend getting your icecream dipped in chocolate- a signature move I've only found at Veli Usta. This gives your icecream a thin chocolate coating on top which is to die for.
