Veli Usta is one of the three famous ice cream spots in Çeşme…read more I tried the mango (which didn't taste as full bodied as I expected), their mastic (which I enjoyed much more than Reyhan's version), and their blackberry (which was incredibly rich and unmatched in flavor). I will say that I overall prefer Veli Usta because I find their ice cream to be softer. It doesn't freeze as hard as Reyhan's so it's easier to scoop. Their mastic is also richer than Reyhan's although Reyhan's ice cream box is a bit more insulated and nicer. All in all, if you're in Çeşme, Veli Usta is not to be missed, especially if you like strong ice cream flavors.

This particular location is in Alacati's city center where you can sit, enjoy some dessert and tea, and watch all the people milling around the city who have come in for the summer season. I came here on a Thursday night and the restaurant was pretty packed, so packed that the servers didn't notice that we had sat down and were waiting for menus! After waiting for about 8 minutes I finally managed to flag one of the servers down for a menu. I ordered the tavuk gogsu (chicken breast) with gum icecream and an asure. Both desserts were decidedly "ok", I think that Ozsut has lost a bit of its small-restaurant charm and taste when it decided to become a national chain. Personally I'd prefer to get my local sweets at Imren in Alacati which is what I'll do next time! The benefit of this location is that it's decidedly larger than any of the smaller mom and pop spots in Alacati so there's usually room to sit down and order a dessert- even during the busy summer season!
