Love visiting import house specifically for the shelter cats they house that are up for adoption! The black one there right now is SO SWEET, my partner and I love visiting her. There's a decent selection of pretty basic shoes, some fun clothing, jewelry, and rocks. In the back section there's an excellent array of smoking pieces, incense, and other local knickknacks. The prices are anything unreasonable either, plus it's located uptown, so it's not out of the way. read more

One of my favorites stores. I shop there for incense, candles, shoes, occasionally clothes. They have a few hiking stylized belts, hiking socks gloves, hippyish hats. They have a wide selection of superior quality shoes. The prices range from $50-60 through, over $100. They carry keen shoes and are now carrying Vans. I can't say much for the quality of vans. I do have a pair of pro vans skate shoes, but vans range in quality at different stores. To be honest I am sure Import House is only carrying vans because they have become a fad within the past few years. Import House has a good selection of stretched ear jewelry ranging in sizes from very small at a 8 or 10 gauge all the way up to fractional inch sizes. They also carry some body jewelry. Included in their jewelry counter is locally customer made jewelry. Import House is Divided in half. One side with smoking accessories and the other side with mainly shoes clothes and jewelry. read more

Haven't been there in years but I'm still wearing a pair of sandals I bought there 20 years ago. It's a mainstay of Athens.

This was one of my favorite stores in Athens. I can't really speak to the smoking-oriented selection, though it seems extensive. They have a lot of posters, bumper stickers, incense, hippy home decor (tapestries, candles, etc.) Their other half is full of a nice selection of shoes from more socially/environmentally responsible companies (think Merrell, Simple, etc.) including boots, sneakers, dressier choices, and sandals. They also have clothes too - mostly if not completely ladies' selections. Nice dresses, skirts, sweaters, hats, gloves, t-shirts. There is definitely a stereotypical hippy vibe to every piece, but they vary in hippy-intensity. I'll finish by saying that I bought a pair of Simple shoes here in 2007, and I'm still wearing them two years later. They're holding up very well. They pair I got was even missing a lace-loop ring and the owner took it to a shoe repair place to get one put in. Good people, and they sell quality stuff. read more

Import House sold me a defective pair of Merrell sandals. The front ripped completely off after two weeks of wear. I grew up in Athens but live out of town. I called to see what could be done. They said the company would call me about it, but that never happened. I brought the shoes back in and was told nothing could be done. Their lack of interest in customer satisfaction is appalling. I can't recommend Import House and will no longer shop there. read more

The last time i was in Athens, this mega-head shop had two stories. Every conceivable patchouli soaked item of clothing or decor necessary to flunk out of OU can be found here. There are bob marley t shirts sporting imagery that chronicles his teen years all the way through to when he rode a lion into Parliament and smoked up with princess Di. I think that event might be made up. I'm not sure if they have hemp underwear. But brother, in case of emergency, you could light those puppies up and roam the wilderness naked and free. There are also TOBACCO pipes, stickers, shoes, and lava lamps. Kind of how Target is now. read more

Terrible customer service. The workers are rude and you can clearly tell they hate their job. The only decent thing about them is the cat that runs around in the shop. read more
