This is a public art piece that was created by John Simms in 2003. It is the 5th in a series that he created. The other pieces of the series can be seen all across the country. Imploding Cube is located in the ArtsPark which is located behind the Indianapolis Art Center. It is right by the bright blue piece Cresendo. It is a simple piece. consists of a 5 foot cube made of aircraft aluminium mounted on a pole. Each face of the cube points inward to create a cube- shaped negative space at the centre of itself. There is a bearing underneath the cube's apex that allows it to spin. The sculpture sits in a small reflecting pool. The pool needed to be cleaned when I was there. It had a bunch of dirt and leaves in it. Considering that it was created in 2003, the sculpture itself is still in great shape and looks awesome.
This is a nice piece and one of the over 25 unique pieces of art in the park. I recommend making this a stop along your visit of the park's other pieces. read more
