I remember getting the phone call back in 2003 from my son about how he was going to be on the evening news: He had worked on the concrete and brick work that was the base for a new art installation at the IAC. That installation is called Imploding Cube by artist John Simms (created in 2001). The piece is constructed from aircraft aluminum and is a 9' cube balanced upon one corner so that it reaches a total of 12' in height. Each of the sides of the cube collapses into the open center so that the visitor may see through the piece. When a light wind blows, the piece may pivot on its balance point. The finish is highly polished and catches the light calling attention to the curves within the otherwise square shapes of the cube. Review #1559 read more
