I am a fan of kinetic art. I also like bright and shiny stainless steel sculpture, so the combo of the two make for one enjoyable art installation!
This piece on the eastern edge of the State Museum property was created by George Rickey back in 1987. The South Bend native reached his prominence in the 1950's and is considered a pioneer in kinetic art.
This piece features a central pole that has four "L"-shaped pieces attached by narrow rods to their external corners. When perfectly aligned, the four pieces form a cross shaped image. The rest of the time, the pieces angle in the wind with their polished/buffed surfaces catching the light on sunny days.
