Getting your rental It took 1 hour and 20 min to check my truck out even though there was only two couples ahead of me. There is only one person who works the front desk and she does it very very very slowly. I rented a truck for ONE MONTH in May to do a Canada USA move. I rented it over a month ahead of time to ensure I was not caught short in the busy May June July rental season. They said it costs 5.00 extra per day for any days in the USA for extra insurance. Untrained Staff I went once to the USA and advised the number of days and received a 5.00 charge per day as agreed. On the second trip as I was about to cross the border, I called to get them to charge the extra days but they said " we do not insure for any USA travel with our trucks"! I had just paid 600 dollars in gas to load the truck and another few hundred to drive it 6 hrs to Windsor Ontario. Faulty Maintenance I then said your oil change light keeps coming on. She said you need to bring it back so we can service it! They expected me to drive it 6 hrs back to Montreal so they could do the oil change. She said the person who rented it to me with the 5.00 per day was not trained so it was not their problem or fault. I also suggested that their maintenance manager was also not trained as oil changes are based on mileage which is the most predictable and easy to schedule ... Implications of renting from this company I was forced to complete my run into the USA uninsured due to their error. I also now was forced to bring the truck back on the 17th of May despite having paid the full month. It was useless to me if I could not drive it insured to the USA which is what I reserved and paid for. Now 2 weeks before June 1st the two biggest moving months of the year and I had no truck and no where to store all my things... Trying to rent a truck in June or July for a move is impossible as they have all been rented months before just like mine which was rented back in April. It is now two months later... Shocking disregard for customer service or even bothering to answer any calls or emails. When I called initially I was told she was not allowed to put any calls through to the manager. I would have to leave a message and they would call back. After more than a dozen messages I have never received a callback. Manager Marco renegs on his promise to fix the problem I went into the office and I was assured by Marco, who I was told was a manager, that he would make it right as it was clearly his staff's mistakes that had landed me in this position. Despite his assurances he never wrote or called back to clarify what he would do or how he would make this right nor did he ever reply to my many calls. They have this trick where they transfer your call if you insist to speak to the manager and then it goes to a voicemail which every time I have called the past two months has been full. Nice way to avoid having to deal with your clients! I never received a copy of the final bill. I called twice to receive it and again just now two months later I have requested it again.. I got the person to check the amount while I waited on the phone and I am told they charged $1600.00 EXTRA to the FULL MONTHLY RENTAL fee which I had to give back half way through the month. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! She promised to send me the bill. I will believe it when I see it. Shocking how such a business can still be in operation with a complete disregard for basic ethics or business practices.

This time around not only was the outside covered in WET dirt with their attempt to wash it but the inside had food in the doors juice and I guess coffee splashed on the doors! In short, we arrived on time for our pickup, and none of the 3 cars that our family had rented were ready.  The person at the counter said that it might be an hour, but maybe a lot more; there was no certainty. Shockingly, she added that if our cars were only 1-2 hours late, we shouldactually feel pretty lucky(!?) - during the summer high tourist season, rental cars are constantly overbooked by Budget (and possibly other rental car companies).  She said it's a constant problem there in Montreal, and that recently some other customers' reserved rental cars were over A DAY late. I appreciated her honesty, but we were all floored and angry that Budget would do this.  If they don't have many cars, I get it, but that's no excuse for renting cars that aren't actually going to be available. In the end, our whole family of 11 people had to kill time for 2 hours in the middle of our vacation, until the cars were all ready.  We missed a restaurant reservation that we had put a deposit on, as well as activities we had planned. Also, even when Budget finally had the cars available, they didn't have the car seat we had reserved.  They said there was nothing they could do.  This left us in the very difficult position of either finding a store that sold car seats on vacation and buying one out of our own pockets just for a day and a half of driving, OR driving illegally in a foreign country at our own risk. I'm not sure what we could have possibly done to avoid this.  It sounds like Budget just overbooks their cars.  Regardless - REALLY not happy with our experience.

Someone broke the window of a car I rented and stole some stuff and they handled the claim in a very timely and professional manner. Cons: They only allow 250 km a day and you have to pay extra for extra milage. This would make sense if their prices are always cheaper than other companies, but unfortunately this is not \ the case.
