Just got off the phone with the owner, Joel. I'm searching for a facility for my mare to call home. I'm coming from the IE. All the other places I have called out here don't answer/return calls, or they're super uppity and kinda rude. I'm just a regular person who loves horses. Joel answered all of my questions, and he was friendly, honest, and down to earth. He made me feel welcome and invited me to come down to tour the place. I really like that they are family owned. I feel like this facility is going to be a great fit, and I can't wait to come check it out. Based on my conversation today with Joel and all the reviews and photos, I think we found our facility. Thanks for your time, Joel! Lauren and Lily

Imperial Equestrian Center is my happy place. We have our Mini, Jesse boarded there. He is a happy well fed little guy. I met Joel and Shona about 25 years ago. My daughter took lessons and we eventually bought a mare. We currently have a home in Texas and a home in California. Two years ago in Texas, a mare I had just bought threw me. I was both injured and traumatized. I have had horses throughout my life, but, have never been so injured that I was afraid. I knew I needed to get over my fear so when we came to California, I went to Imperial. I started with the mini Jesse and slowly got my confidence back. Shona was awesome! She encouraged me to get back on a horse. I have learned so much from both Joel and Shona. This stable is great. You can't please everyone, but to me, it's a great place.

I love this place come and volunteer. Affordable horse lessons call Shona

It just doesn't feel like summer until I'm back at imperial equestrian Center for summer horse camp! All year long I just wait counting the days till summer horse camp ! I think there's 4 weeks this summer. Please invest in your children and teach them how to conduct themselves with horses. So many fun activities and a place to make lifelong friends

As I mentioned to Joel and Shauna I wish I had met them a very long time ago. Who knew there was such an incredible riding instructor like Shauna in what has been my own backyard for the last almost 30 years. I highly recommend IEC and I'm a retired International Horse Trainer and Riding Instructor. There is simply no other trainer that I have ever met that actually loves horses and is affectionate with them. We are kindred spirits and I mentioned to her the other day that we would have been quite a pair of riding buddies. Unfortunately I am I'll and my ability to care for my horse is greatly comprised and I have decided to retire my beautiful horse. But I have fallen in love with a magnificent black Arabian that lives at IEC and his owner has graciously agreed to let me ride him a few days a week. So I will still be around this really excellent place to not just learn how to ride but to learn how to care for the horse's that are surely in the future of all of the children lucky enough to have found this place. I know the future is still bright at IEC. And it's a pretty nice place for all kinds of animal lovers and will be for a long time. I

The people here are incredibly nice and it doesn't take much to strike a friendly conversation. Shona is extremely knowledgeable about horses and always offers great advice. I've even had several other riders boarding here take their time to teach me what they know. Overall, the place is great. Unfortunately, a strange middle-aged couple have been harassing the barn owners lately. Initially, I looked forward to meeting Kate, she presented herself as a professional trainer and coach, until she decided to create a stir here. Only a week after boarding, Kate began making legal accusations against the barn for being abusive and dangerous. As a Mexican that never had the privilege of being in a "fancy" upscale equestrian center, I found it pretty offensive. The horses are cared for and the place is well-maintained. It was also mentioned to me that Kate had no shame in making inappropriate sexual commentary to the teenagers that ride here. Accompanied by her husband, Cody, they both constantly make defamatory statements behind yelp burner accounts such as "Martha W." to hide their self-image. Cody was also found screaming at a young woman who was trapped in metal cross ties with a 1,000 pound horse and was behaving so erratically and aggressively, he had to be removed from the property by security. For someone who is associated with Kate, he should've known proper barn etiquette. Para mis vaqueros, este lugar es relajado y divertido. Nadie te molesta aunque hagas una parrillada aquí. Hay mucho espacio para montar alrededor. Trae a tu familia, es un buen lugar para pasearse.

My daughter had a great time at Horse Camp! She learned a lot and loved being around the horses. We will be attending horse riding lessons from here as well! We thank you for a great experience:)

Hidden gem! Hope to continue boarding my horse here for many years to come. Family owned/operated with genuine care for all of their boarders. Initially found IEC and started taking lessons which I looked forward to every week and now I'm lucky enough to have my own horse housed under the best and most knowledgeable care of Shona & Joel!

Buying a medium sized container of feed was more than enough, IMHO. Visitors are required to feed only the goats & sheep from the other side of the enclosure. Without feed, visitors can enter the closure & pet/brush the animals. Besides the goats & sheep, there are 2 pigs, chickens, and in a separate enclosure, emus & a cow. No access allowed to those, however. Pony rides are an option for little kids. The ride is around an oval track. There is also a playground area to burn up some energy. A few handwashing stations on premises to stay hygienic during your visit. Barnyard Buddies is an accessible nearby barnyard experience. I was lucky enough to grow up around chickens, so I'm not new to livestock. It's my firm belief kids should be around animals, and know where their food comes from, whether it be eggs, milk and/or meat. While not a place I'd recommend traveling large distances to visit, for those nearby or whom happen to be in the area, Barnyard Buddies is a wonderful opportunity to feed enthusiastically hungry goats & sheep, and brush plump piggies. Highly recommend!

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by friendly staff who made us feel welcome and at ease. The instructor, Laura, was knowledgeable and patient, taking the time to explain everything in detail and ensuring that my daughter feels comfortable before getting on the horse. The horses themselves were well-trained and gentle, making it easy for a beginner like my daughter to learn the basics of riding. The facilities were clean and well-maintained, with a spacious arena for practicing different exercises and techniques. Throughout the lessons in these past 6 months we have see the improvement and how she is gaining confidence with each ride. Laura provides helpful feedback and guidance, pushing Delilah to challenge herself and try new things. Overall, I highly recommend taking horseback riding lessons at this stable. I read a recent review left by someone claiming that the staff here are not kind or welcoming to minorities. This has never been the case for us as we are Mexican. So that statement is far from being true. I highly recommend this place to all who are looking to start horseback riding. My adult daughter and I had our first lesson with her today and I cannot say enough great things about her. She has the experience, knowledge, and ability to teach you, your kids, or anyone how to ride correctly so that you are confident in the saddle. She also shows you how to groom and tack up (saddle) your horse which increases your confidence around horses. She is definitely safety first, has incredible patience, no judgment, and is a lovely and friendly person. Everything you could possibly want in a riding instructor. I have ridden a fair amount over the years but haven't been on a horse in several years. I wanted to improve my form and technique while getting back into riding. Dede was the perfect choice to get started again. My daughter and I took a lesson together (great bonding experience, parents!) Very helpful to eavesdrop on the tips she was giving each of us while we were in the arena. There is also the option of doing trail rides while we learn which we'll definitely take advantage of as we progress. Who knew there were gorgeous trails right off the 605/60 freeways?!?!? Dede has a number of beautiful, well-trained horses to suit every rider and their ability. The Whittier Narrows Equestrian Center is a large and lovely facility, well maintained, with easy access off the 605, and immediate access to riding trails. With summer vacation on the horizon, Urban Horseman is the ideal source for riding lessons, horsemanship camps for kids, individual (or perhaps small group/friends lessons), or parent/kid time together. Reasonable rates for quality instruction. You will absolutely get your money's worth at Urban Horseman and have a fantastic time learning or improving your riding skills. Let me tell you, as someone who has always loved horses, now in my 30's I wanted to do something I really love, and that's what brought me to this stable. The one thing that really stood out to me here, is when I talked to the children who frequented the barn, is they loved the independence it gave them. I was shocked to hear that from kids some younger than 8 years old! But once you start taking lessons, it made sense. This place really teaches you how to basically take care of your own horse. You are saddling up, hoof picking, brushes, and sometimes cleaning the horses. And you learn to ride in all kinds of techniques and horses. You get to learn some equine knowledge, therapy, and when something does happen to a horse, they explain why and what exactly is going on. I don't understand some of the previous comments. Horses. Are. Animals. Animals are unpredictable. You can wear any type of protective gear you want, but you at minimum have to wear boots and a helmet. My first lesson I fell off. Yeah it hurts. But you learn. I also broke one of my toes cause it was stepped on. Again, animals are unpredictable. There will never be a 100% safe animal. But the instructors know how to instruct and direct when these situations happen, and I have seen some WILD kids on these horses, who don't listen, and these horses didn't even react. When anyone does get hurt, those who work there do everything they can to make sure you are okay. Things I appreciated about the ones who work at the stables: Tiffany has a plethora of knowledge, and loves to share it. Sophia was my main instructor who I appreciated so much because she let me push my boundaries when she could tell I too afraid to push myself. Sarah-Faith substituted for my class and always took such care with the kids on their lessons. Regan always had something fun to share every time I visited, and Nathan would always assist when I had questions. All the crew here are amazing, and love horses. I am so sad to have to pause, but I have learned so much that makes me confident if i ever own my own horse, I will at least know the basic needs to tend to a horse. I hope to come visit soon, and be back after my wedding!
