I have also been very late (post-theater) on a Saturday evening and we never made it inside; we had to sit outside. The decor is subtle and classy. Le Lion is the cradle of the gin basil smash (I had never heard of it until I came here but it seems to be a Hamburg thing). You do pay a premium for the drink but it's the original and it's also a good drink. In conclusion: Come early to get inside for the full speakeasy experience. Come late and understand if you have to sit outside. Don't miss the gin basil smash; they invented it.

They were also really helpful in explaining the menu and how you can get a chug (smaller size) if you don't want the full serving. We wanted to try everything. Our main comment and unfortunately it affected our experience a lot is that smoking is allowed inside. This is not uncommon for bars in this country but they could have provided a pleasant experience for everyone and not just some by not allowing smoking inside. We smelled like smoke and our drinks came with a side of ill health. Other than that, we loved this bar and maybe it won't be raining next time so we can sit outside (where people still smoke but the smoke has somewhere to go).

Genuine atmosphere, a bit dark, just what's needed, with cool music and people. I tried their special menu which basically is a 6-course cocktail tasting (no worries, they all come into the "Chug" size glass;)) through which you'll discover their signature recipes. Other than all the movie characters the bar has a sort of jungle theme with lots of bamboo - random. Once you get past all of that though you notice that it's actually quite a cool bar. Having said all that, there is only one reason to make the trip to Gecko bar in my eyes - to play pool. The tables here aren't cheap, but they are good.

What kind of a bar doesn't have small plates and little forks or spoons ready? The excuse "we're just a bar" is absolutely unacceptable.
