It was the green umbrellas and seating outdoors that called to me. Unfortunately, like other outdoor dining areas in Europe, smoking is allowed. I just knew I would have to deal with that if I wanted to sit outside. I already saw a few people smoking. When you walk into the restaurant, the menu is posted on the wall behind the counter. It's a casual environment. As the name suggests, the food is vegetarian. Posted on the menu are stuffed baked potatoes, soups, salads, and juices. Bottled drinks in a refrigerator to the side. Tall table seating indoors. The salads are either small or large. I ordered a small quinoa salad and grabbed a bottled pomegranate tea from the refrigerator. While the gentleman rung me up at the register, someone else put my salad together. All fresh ingredients in a bowl. Glad I decided on a small because large is way too much food. A rabbit can only eat so much in one sitting. My drink was good and salad delicious. I used the restroom before I left, which is on the right hand side, through the side door. Had to mention it because the ladies room is a tiny stall for one. Cashless, so don't forget to bring your credit card.

But, that's truly enough, as what they prepare is all very-very good. The way this restaurant is designed is that you walk inside, decide what you want from their menu, and you order it at the counter. No cash. Only card. Then, it is prepared very quickly. I mean, they really do a great job of preparing each dish very fast. In terms of seating, for their interior they have a couple of long group tables and some two person tables along their wall. Me, that's where I like to sit. They also have a large amount of outdoor tables. Most of these table have umbrellas, so it is a great place to sit if you want to enjoy the air. The one problem I have with sitting at their outdoor tables is the same problem I have with virtually all of the restaurants in Berlin, they allow to people to smoke at these tables. One would think, at a vegetarian restaurant, they would not allow smoking. But, I have even witnessed staff members taking a break and going out there for a smoke. This is just something to keep in mind. Normally, I too prefer to sit outside, but I hate to have my eating experience diminished by someone smoking next to me. Overall, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Berlin. The food is very good. They staff are all very nice. And, you walk away feeling as if you have actually done something very good for your body.

German food is also quite heavy so finding this place was such a joy!! I went straight for the Japanese Bowl with it's filling of eggplant, edamame, beets, ramen and cucumber with a light miso-mayo dressing. This wasn't your ordinary ramen bowl! It was a fanciful bowl that played "light" and "hearty" in the same mix that made for a super tasty bowl of healthy eats. Hubby had the Protein Bowl with quinoa, beets, almonds, chili and brocolli. I preferred mine over his although his was exactly what he needed as far a nutrition. These two bowls were so refreshing and light but hearty enough to get full. Best part: every piece of the meal was healthy and worked together. I honestly could have eaten here every day just to sample the rest of the menu. You can add, delete, customize your food choices based on whether you are gluten-free, lactose intolerant, vegan, etc. You really can't go wrong with the food choices here. There is a smoothie bar also but you place your order(s) at another counter. Indoor seating with phone chargers available at each table (I guess that's a sign of the times nowadays). Beets & Roots has a really cool, laid back vibe with great customer service! I loved that the menu was decipherable and the staff was eager to help us customize our order. Staff was super friendly and funny!

It…read morewas quite crowded on a Tuesday evening, which is unheard of for this suburban area of Berlin. The menu selection is extensive with daily specials to boot. Dinner portions are generous and in the 10 to 13 EUR range. Service is a little slow at times, as there were only two servers, both had their hands full, running around as quickly as they could. I ordered the grilled calamari, which comes with a side of rice and steamed veggies. I substituted my rice with a side salad. The calamari were tender and not greasy, although I would have preferred more grill marks. The veggies were surprisingly al dente, albeit the typical previously frozen mix of broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. I was relieved to find my vegetables were neither overcooked nor drowned in butter, as is so often the case in Germany. Dad ordered a pork braised in a red sauce with potatoes, which he enjoyed. The pork was tender and the sauce had an almost Moroccan spice mix of cinnamon and paprika. The traditional Greek salad is $8 and large for European standards, but too small as an entree by itself. Desserts are not very Greek, think roasted apples with walnuts and honey, or chocolate souffle. An entire menu is dedicated to ice cream sundaes, if banana splits and the like are your thing. I went Greek with Galaktoboureko, served with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. It was delicious, but the puff pastry to custard ratio seemed a bit off. I would have liked a little more custard, and the custard was firmer than I am used to. Different but enjoyed it very much. Free Ouzo shots before you hit the road, a nice gesture. I highly recommend this place, it is worth a trip on the S-Bahn and conveniently located right next to the Gruenau station.

Finally had a chance to give it a go today, and overall, it was mildly disappointing. The broccoli, edamame, and beets were not fresh, rather soggy. I couldn't finish it. The chicken and quinoa was delicious though. Figured I would try the red curry soup since I love soup and curries in general. I was still kind of hungry. Unfortunately, the soup was cold and I can only rate it as "so so" at best. On the bright side, they have a nice outdoor patio for warmer days, and the music inside is spot-on with upbeat, fun dance music. Would I come back? Maybe, but only if I had no other options. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and give it one more shot, but that would really be the last time I'd come here when there are consistently better "health food" options such as Little Green Rabbit not too far away.

This restaurant offers "bowl" types of dishes which are quickly prepared in front of your eyes (Chipotle style more or less). And even though this restaurant is not the cheapest (around 10 euro per person), it offers dishes full of flavor, decent in portion and in addition they feel healthier than other "quick food" alternatives. All in all, beets&roots is great for grabbing a quick bite. My Criteria 5 stars: The best food I have ever had, or an excellent option given the price. 4 stars: Good food, a restaurant I look forward to trying again. 3 stars: Good food, a restaurant that I am indifferent to. 2 stars: Below average experience, will not go again. 1 stars: This restaurant should be closed.

Locate the place and order the most recommended dish. Al-Andalos is located in the busy part of Neukölln, right on Sonnenallee. On a Saturday night at 10 p.m., it was full to the rim. No seats, stressed out staff, people fight for seats and the spot in the line to get the delicious food. We ordered the Al-Andalos platter for two (meat) for 11 EUR, which comes with an entire package of Arabic/Lebanese bread. We were barely able to finish the entire plate, there are many tasty things on this plate and even my companion that night, who is generally not so quickly to impress, admitted that it was probably the best he has eaten in a long time. Fresh, tasty, large portions and fair prices. Staff is super friendly and attentive! I think I will have to drive out to Neukölln more often!
