At least the former, anti-child-in-church priest has vanished suddenly from ICC. I've been to several masses with Fr. Tim, who is the antithesis to the former pastor. Fr. Tim will spend 3 -5 minutes walking up the aisles, greeting those in the pews on the way in to Mass and then again on the way out of Mass. A small thing that makes you feel like you're important to the parish. Fr. Tim makes a special effort to greet the children and to talk to them with (not down to them). However, he does not put anyone on the spot and corner them to see how knowledgeable they are about Catholic dogma, unlike what used to happen with the previous pastor.
We went to Mass there recently and he included a baptism into the whole church service. That means he invited all in attendance to go to the Baptismal Font and witness the baptism. It was such a lovely (I think) way to welcome the newest member of our Catholic faith. Yes, it made the service longer and sometimes with young (or older) kids that can be challenging. Yet I think it can be a neat way for our kids to see what it was like at their own baptism.
The congregation, in general, doesn't seem to be as welcoming as in other churches where people will randomly start a conversation with you. I think, for me, that would be one of the ways to up the rating to a 5 star. Lastly, I am so glad that the petitions there now center on people and community and not on the financial wealth of the church. Hopefully ICC will continue to improve and embrace all who enter. read more
