Checked out Lasting Impressions in 3D last evening. Off the top I have to say, the music made me want to shut my eyes, which would have been self defeating. It was very relaxing. I was happy to discover the movie was as advertised, and did actually present the art and the music. Some of the camera tricks however, left something to be desired. I could go without breakfast and forget my eye glasses and get the same effects. There were some fun aspects however, and I did enjoy the snow storms and leaves falling, which in 3D were quite realistic. Sadly I found the script somewhat irregular, and some of the changes from one composition to the next quite abrupt. Less camera tricks and more camera close ups of the actual paintings would have been a positive. They saved the best for last, putting the Van Gogh work on the end. But again, it would have been better with less camera tricks and more close up investigation of the actual paintings. One of the things about seeing Van Gogh's actual work is the intensity of his brush strokes and thickness of his paint. Unfortunately the anguish of his strokes does not translate in this movie. Overall though, this is the best IMAX feature on regular rotation the RBCM has presented so far this year. read more

This is truly the best way to see a movie. The massive screen with digital laser clarity and a sound system that is perfectly matched is the way to see a movie. I have been coming here since it opened, but seeing Dune on it gave me a whole new appreciation for just how good this theatre is. If you want to truly feely immersed in another world, this is where to do it. read more

No long lines. Our party of 9 including 5 kids saw Superdogs in 3D. The movie poster didn't do it justice. Great documentary! This is such a great attraction for all ages as the movies are less than 1 hour, maybe 45 minutes. Full concessions stand with popcorn, pretzels, soda, slushees...all the regular movie snacks. You get a discount if you stay for two shows. read more

I was hoping for the half-dome or full-dome but nope, it's a large format screen. Despite that, I enjoy coming to this theatre. It's located inside the Royal BC Museum behind the ticket booths. I recommend EXTREME and COSMIC VOYAGE. I was very enthralled, it's the geek in me. :) Money saving tip #1: If you plan on visiting the museum and IMAX, get the combo ticket. Money saving tip #2: If you want to see more than one IMAX movie, you can buy the dual screening ticket. Money saving tip #3: If you want to do it all (museum and 2+ movies), do tip #1 and buy additional show for only $5.75! One thing to note; if you bought tickets for the last showing, be on time! Every time I visit a museum or national park that has an IMAX theater, I always make it a point to see a movie there! So here I was with the Royal BC Museum closing at five, meeting friends for dinner at 6:15 PM thinking "I watch myself an IMAX! " The movie about D-Day was excellent and featured information about the invasion of Normandy, France by Canadians, Brits and Americans! I learned a lot! However, I was very disappointed with the sound. Some of the speakers sounded as though they were blown and the sound was slightly irritating. The screen was okay but one of the original IMAX screens. Definitely dated! All of that said, it was a good time waster! read more

I went to the National Geographic IMAX. They have 4 movies a day, but they work on a rotating schedule. So, I enjoyed a pizza pretzel (the concession stand ran out out of samosas) and watched 'Sea Rex'. It was a non-fiction science movie about the succession of earth, underwater dinosaurs and human evolution. And I was shocked it wasn't in 3-D, however, the high definition mega-screen was an experience. The first 5-minutes, I was queasy. But it was an impressive short film that satisfied the geek in me. read more

I was close to the front o the line to see Spider-Man 3. When the doors opened a number of people rushed past me. I was still able to get a seat close to the middle, but just being a little to the side meant that my neck was in pain almost the whole time. By the way, the star solely reflects my personal taste. it was my first time at an IMAX theatre and the bigger screen didn't wow me as much as most people; when I'm in a theatre setting I tend to get pretty immersed in the movie regardless and the thus the screen size has a negligible impact on me. A lot of other people are more wowed by the format so if you're more typical that way (and aren't prone to neck problems), you'll probably like this theatre more than I did. read more

I love watching movies about nature and adventures and discovery and etc etc on the big screen, so I really love this place. As Linny had said, it's disappointing that the screen is just a large screen and not surrounding - however it's still a very nice theater. They do a good job at keeping the lines organized and moving at a good rate. The actual theater is clean and well designed. The refreshment stand has good snacks at a reasonable (for theaters) price. And I have to admit, I love the 'souvenir' store you walk through to get out. Oh sure it's a money-making gambit, but they do have some really nice items and they all seem to be pretty good quality stuff, not junk that'll fall apart on you a month later. On a side note, I rated this as "good for kids" - "NO" because I have a thing about children and theaters - I always seem to end up with the loud one sitting right behind me!!! If you have managed to teach your child how to whisper questions instead of yelling them, then by all means, this is an excellent place to take children - the films are short and very often kid-friendly in that there are no scary or unexpected scenes. read more

Live inside the Grand Canyon, explore Jerusalem, or meet some cute lemurs. The IMAX always seems to have amazing movies. The popcorn is yummy and nice selection of baked goods. Annual pass holders spend a modest amount (under $50) and get free forty minute movies for the year plus special screenings with guest speakers that are worth more than the small cost. The introduction is a nice personal touch. The seats and carpet are a little out dated but otherwise a great magical experience read more
